Ever since the lottery results most people just want to trade the pick. Im not against it BUT it has to be a tremendous offer. Most of the trade proposals ive seen have been pretty weak to be honest. You can still get a good player at 4 and considering what la or philly do its possible one of the top 3 will fall to us

I don't want to trade the pick - but Phil seems to have no interest in Mudiay. and it remains to be seen what interest he has in Winslow. Maybe it's a massive smoke screen - but honestly if the Knicks select Mudiay, I'm going to assume they're making the pick for someone else and it's a trade.
I just think he's going to trade the pick based on what we've heard.
But I agree - I'd just take Winslow, Stein, Mudiay at 4. Work out a bunch of guys, take who you like best. Maybe LA or PHI shock us - though I kind of doubt it. But I agree, you have to allow yourself the flexibility to pounce on opportunity in the draft.
A few years ago, the Pacers were set to trade pick 17. Larry Bird waited until he saw what was there at 17 before officially agreeing to the trade. Danny Granger, for some reason, slipped from project 5 overall to 17... Bird snapped up Granger who started the Pacers turn around.
Best practice in the draft is to be open to the possibilities of what can fall to you and just take BPA. I agree trading is overthinking it. But what else are us fans gonna do for the next 26 days?!?!

Phil is being wise do let everyone know what you intend to do. Just ask Walsh and MDA.

I don't think we will know what the Knicks are actually thinking which I think is good. Teams were able to set their draft boards for the Gallo draft and everyone knew the Knicks wanted Curry. I don't remember any leaks about the Tyson/Felton trade or the Smith/Shump trade but I could be mistaken.

I guess im just tired of trading picks. Lets face it, it always backfires. It would have to be a great trade for us. Im not interested in trading for a flawed player on a big contract anymore
there are some unlikely trade scenarios... so yeah.. it's probably gonna be kept...
Bottom line - no teams have even started one on one workouts yet. Those will shape the draft and trade options as much as anything.
I'm sure the Knicks organization is just as torn as this board is at the moment. Three and a half weeks to go.

A lot of folks want to keep the pick.
I agree that you can get a very good player at #4, but BPA is, in some ways, a meaningless term, since it varies from team to team, and evaluators within an organization will have different opinions.
Phil might take the BPA on his draft board and still be lambasted by fans who simply don't agree with his evaluation.
Who decides who the BPA is...you? me? Briggs?
I want to keep the pick, but who knows which players we'll eventually get.

I think Phil knows exactly what he's gonna do with the pick if he keeps it. The only thing he doesn't know is what offers he's gonna receive on draft day but i'm sure he has a good idea what it will take to trade the pick for a veteran and i'm sure he has his board set on how far he'll trade down in the 1st to where he'll still get a player that he likes on his board. More than anything else i'm worried about Phil getting good value back in a trade. He needs to be able to hold out until the last minute to get everything he can from these teams. These other GM's obviously know he's new at the GM thing and will low ball the heck out of him thinking he'll give in to their offer so Phil needs to remember that he's got what they want in that 4th pick so he needs to come out on top here.

Well every time we've kept our lottery pick it's backfired too!
Technically, we can't trade the pick, only the player after we pick him. So we have to take the BPA anyway. Then we either keep or trade him.
This would be the 1st time Phil is dealing from a position of strength. He doesn't have to trade his pick. He's dealing with teams lower in the draft and wanting to move up. The entire point of trading down is to get more value and not to take a deal unless it benefits the Knicks more than keeping the #4 pick. This draft has good options in the top 5-7 at least, so it's not like Phil should feel he can't get a good player at #4. I don't see a reason to really be that worried. He will be able to sit back and watch to see what the top 3 teams actually do and work the Phones to see what people are offering.

The reason to be worried is that Phil and Dolan are the ones making the decisions!

This is the first time he will be in any real position to do something major for this organization. How he handles this offseason will be the most important decision he makes in his Knick career. It's going to be the baseline for all future building activities. No Pressure!
i'm more in favor with Best Fit Player(BFP)
I'm hoping phil trade down for two quality prospects whose just as good and has just as much upside than the consensus top 5 and that's Jerian Grant and Kaminsky.
Agree with this completely. No trading down unless deal is clearly in our favor.

Yes, we should pick the BPA at #4. Mudiay, or Russell preferably.
