I think that the worst trade raping that we could take.
You want to give all that up just to swap our pick for towns?
I'd do that deal if the 2018 pick had lottery protection to top 5. Towns is well worth it.
I don't.
No giving up extra #1's

Really? I thought we were raping them! The distance between Towns and these other guys is so huge IMO. He's a possible franchise player for a decade or more. I think we'd have to give up far more.Towns gained superhero status after the season finished...During the college basketball season, most GM said there were no franchise players in this draft..A couple of videos later has now made him a must have cornerstone..
From all the actual games I saw of him during the season (and tournament) he looks like the best center prospect since the Dream. I would go all in for him, including trading Melo (clearly not an option). But if we could take back a garbage contract to get him, yeah...JUST DO IT.
SupremeCommander wrote:they're not looking to trade #1... I read they are looking for another high pick to pair with #1. So I have no interest, unless we're getting LaVine and Shabazz back too
So is Phil Jackson looked upon as being a tool that you an get over on and fleece???

I don't think the trade Chad Ford was reporting involved a pick swap. It was just to take Rubio's contract for a lottery pick, which seems insane to me.
Be careful, Gump was not stupid, he saw things differently.
Rubio? Dolan sees "Manudo" with a basketball!!!! What does "Manudo" tranlste to? $$$$$$$$!
I'll give Ford the benefit of the doubt that there is a rumor but any salary dump of that size has a price to pay.
If Minny can get the player they want and dump his salary by swapping with us, and Phil and company think they can rejuvinate Ricky its not an awful idea. Maybe Minny thinks with the dump it opens up salary to sign Monroe or another forward. If so, then its no 1 pick and rubio for #4 and a free agent. Thats a good deal for them!
One can take that even even further by keeping Rubio then Knicks trading Towns/pick and really reface the franchise, say for Denvers 7th and Faried.
If Stein is there you have:
Stein
Faried
Rubio
Melo
I'd prefer to go with Towns myself.
Towns
Bargs
Melo
Rubio
I don't have any solid ideas but we have cap space, a 4th pick and perhaps a president that thinks outside the box.

From Nalod's "lips" to Yaweh's ears. This would be a great consolation for the Knicks. And it really isn't that far-fetched. Minny effed up giving Rubio that deal. If they want to "fix it" they'll need a willing partner with a top 5 pick. That way, they can actually get the player they "want", dump the contract, and have salary cap to sign another solid vet.

This off season will be a test for Phil.
He now has some experience and understands his mistakes....Lets see if he's a fast learner.
The trade they are discussing is shopping Rubio so they can get ANOTHER lottery pick.

Anyone is tradeable including the #1 pick but I think we'd have to give up like 4 future 1st round picks

I painted a hell of a starphuch move and the reality is usually far less than. Most drafts have some hype and rumors but usually its never fulfilled.
That said, Mundiay, who was considered a year ago the top pick falls to 4th and we pick him up will have half the UK up in arms!!
Monroe signing here will be met with WTF!!!!
Two solid moves. Sure we want Phil to pull some awesome Jedi moves but usually teams stay conservative.
In my Minny Starphuch I only put it up because it benefits Minny to do it as well. Rape Trades don't become apparent for years after. I remember when West dealt Pau to the lakers and every one was crying "conspiracy". Years later, it made Memphis solid. In a nut shell, it was Pau for Mark and Z-bo!

Right - but the report has nothing to do with the #1 pick.
I think it would take - pick #4 this year, 2018 top 3 protected and 2020 top 3 protected to trade up for Towns and Minnesota might not even do that. What are the chances Flip is going to be in his same role in 2018 or 2020? Probably very slim.

If Towns is a franchise 2 way bigman than yes, its not even a thought. What would you give up to build around Hakeem? Garnett? Duncan? The answer is anything you can.
Unless you dont think Towns (or OK4 for that matter) are that good.
Add Lew Alcindor to that list, by the way.
Would miss watching Galloway grow, but if you truly believe Towns is a transformational player for your franchise you would have do it and never look back.
Saunders would probably pick up Porzingis at #4, in this situation- a guy he's scouted and likes.
He'd have to depend on Lavine to develop into an effective PG, though, which is a gamble, I suppose.

There's not a team in NBA history who would make that sort of deal. It's so preposterous as to be clearly NOT what Minny would propose. If they had, GMs would never take them seriously again. SMH.

I guess Phil didn't get the memo that the team absorbing the atrocious contract is supposed to be the one who gets the 1st round pick. Must be some Zen mind trick?

What are you talking about crzy? We would be giving them the #4 THIS year. We would not have to give another 2 first rounders for us to take a crap deal off their hands. That's not how deals in the NBA work. They are using their #1 as a sweetener to dump a terrible contract because the guy they actually want will still be available at #4, or they have a willing trade partner who wants #4.
The only reason the Knicks would offer up another pick is to make it irresistible to Minny.
Minny wants to get rid of a contract on a player the present regime did not draft.
Minny want another pick-the 4th- so they can pick up a player who will not be there at 4.
Minny wants to find a bloody patsy to palm off the guy they don't to get the pick they want, but doesn't really want to give away anything of value.
Minny feels foolish Phil is the guy to go to for the fleece job because they will convince Phil that Rubio is the perfect guard for the Triangle.
I actually believe Saunders wants to pick up Porzingis at 4 and would probably include Dieng in any trade, but the trade still does not work for me.

Chances are Flip who is coach and GM moves from off the bench.

100% guarantee that Porzingis will be available to them at #4. You neglected to add that "Minny want to free up Rubio's salary cap hit to sign free agent X".
It's probably just a stupid rumor, and hope has NYK fans like me pining for some truth to it, but there's enough reasonable basis for this sort of deal to make it a rumor with legs.

Yeah... not even thinking about the FA angle for Minny on shedding Rubio, I was looking more at the fact Saunders had drafted Lavine, and not Rubio...
...I am now enlightened.
