Knicks · As of 6/10, who do you take # 4? (page 2)

FistOfOakley @ 6/10/2015 12:24 PM
draft a couple of weeks away... we don't really know too much more since the season ended...

i think the pick is 40% winslow 40% mudiay 20% other/trade down... unless something happens with the top 3 where someone drops... a couple of beat writers like chris herring seems to think winslow will be the pick... a couple of online mocks seem to think it will be mudiay... all thinking a trade down is possible... I don't think Stein is being seriously considered...

my board is 1)Towns 2)Russell 3)Winslow 4)Okafor 5)Mudiay

mikesknicks @ 6/10/2015 12:25 PM
If none of the big three fall I still like Mudiay. I think he has chance to be special and the makeup to work here in New York.

L.A.- They take Russell, to good to pass up. Future star that replaces Kobe.

Philly- They take Okafor, trade him for future 1st and Payne. Would not be surprised if Phil swaps the 4 for the 3 and gives up 2018 pick for him. He might ask for another first and a couple of 2nd rounders.

N.Y.- They take Mudiay, it comes down to BPA plus he fills a need. I like Winslow here also.

Yeah, I think Phil has to call Philly and see what they'd need to swap picks. Hinkie doesn't like to trade down, but I can't see him taking a third big man. Though supposedly Hinkie drafts the BPA and doesn't pay attention to need at all.

smackeddog @ 6/10/2015 12:42 PM
I definitely don't want Mudiay.

I flip flop between Winslow and WCS (because I just want to watch a good defensive team for a change), and sometimes Cam Payne

I think the Lakers will take Russell too- it's not a knock on OK4, I just think there are quite a few PF/C options out there in free agency plus, most of them don't play great defense, so wouldn't be able to play with OK4. If they draft Russell, they can sign Monroe, or take a shot at Gasol, Aldridge or Love. That's 2 positions filled PLUS they already have Randle. If they draft OK4, they have to move Randle, and there aren't really any high calibre guards available in free agency this year.

If hezonja was playing more minutes and a little more mature then he is the guy I would have picked. For me, my vote is with Stein

I'm assuming that Towns and Russell won't be available, but OK4 might be, and Mudiay will be.

I would be choosing from Winslow, Porzingis, and Kaminsky.

I'm confounded that you put so much stock in workouts or workout videos...

Actually, of the 3 guys I am leaning toward, two were in the finals of the NCAAs, and the other has done well against good Euro competition. All three have been successful, and done things in actual games- not just in workouts.

I need to see certain things.

From Winslow I need to see him shoot off the dribble and also know that he can catch and shoot accurately when under pressure. I would love to see him do the drill that OK4 did with LA- the one where most guys on UK completely misunderstood what they were seeing. Winslow was something like 2/19 shooting off the dribble. Is that what you want from your SG/SF?

Want to see if Porzingis has worked on an inside game, and see his movement on D. He's a freak, and comes from a basketball family. Barring injury he could be the best player from this draft 5 years down the road. One hesitations is his passing ability.

I'd also like to look at Kaminsky's footwork on D. He has the most well rounded and versatile game of any big man in this draft, and has shown actual improvement during his college career.

OK4 and Mudiay did not look great in those LA practices

So what exactly do you look at when you are evaluating a player? I want a well rounded player who can play on both ends of the court- you don't take one dimensional players at #4 and imagine what they will do at some point- I want guys who have already shown something and have the right fundamentals.

We should have been deciding between Russell and Towns, but that didn't happen- so I want a guy who has shown he can do a little of everything.

At this point, I lean toward Kaminsky, and I might even do that if OK4 is available.

Added- Both Winslow and Porzingis are in play for me if there is some way to see what they look like now, especially Winslow.

I look at how they played during the year before getting to the NBA and project their talents from there..It's not the same watching a player shoot..They all shoot well in isolation...I have seen many players shoot before games and they don't miss..In games it's completely different..

Also, most of these guys are college freshmen..They have a long way to go to become complete players...A single workout does not do justice to what they can be..What it can do is confirm a certain skill sets or lack there of, but it might not, might be an off day...It certainly doesn't tell the whole story...
tj23 @ 6/10/2015 8:19 PM
Mudiay or trade down if there's a nice offer.
EwingsGlass @ 6/10/2015 8:23 PM
I'm surprised Mudiay has such a following. Mudiay has the athleticism to great, kind of like Jason Richardson. My fear is he doesn't really become that. His shooting drills are not impressing me. We should be okay no matter what happens here.
jbeachboy @ 6/10/2015 8:43 PM
mudiay, kid is going to be superstar player like russell westbrook like in a few years but scared that the triangle system may not utilize his strengths fully , if knicks feel this i would go with winslow, he can become a defensive version of ginobili but not as polished offensively
nixluva @ 6/10/2015 8:50 PM
I'm just not seeing greatness from Mudiay or Winslow. In the NBA they won't be superior talents IMO. They should be good players but I don't see any kind of elite perimeter player in either player.

The reason I want WCS is that he's elite in terms of size, speed and athletic ability. There are very few bigs in his range. His physical talent will translate to the NBA as an elite defensive big who will anchor a team defense. That is a legit factor in the NBA. He would help cover Melo and everyone else. He also has upside offensively. If his shooting continues to develop into a dependable weapon he's an All Star down the line.

jbeachboy @ 6/10/2015 8:56 PM
whose going to play point guard and shooting guard next year?

I'm fine with adding WCS, I just don't want him with the 4th pick.

If there is a chance to trade down and get WCS an Payne it will be amazing, but i think WCS will go not beyond #6

I don't see any way to get Payne and WCS but i could see them finding a way to get Payne and T.Lyles which i would love cause both fit the triangle perfectly.

I agree about the workout issue, and tend to look at actual competition, especially if it is higher level competition.

I do like to see game refinement by guys with known issues, but I do know that everything is different once they are on the court.

Winslow could be special, IMO, and you know that none of us (and the paid scouts, for that matter) can truly predict what will happen in the future with these guys. I guess I just want to see certain things addressed by certain players. Means nothing, since my opinion means nothing in the scheme of things- but if I'm playing the "we should pick him game," I like to know certain things.

i take the bpa at#4. none of this cute trading down stuff. knicks arent that smart
McCringleberry @ 6/11/2015 12:12 AM
I voted Mudiay.. wouldn't be mad at WCS or Winslow though
BRIGGS @ 6/11/2015 12:29 AM
You can find an athletic shot blocker anywhere from 20-50
You can find an athletic guard from 20-UDFA
You can find a PG down to 45
There is only one Towns hes in a class by himself
But I also think there is ONLY 1 Kaminsky in this draft and hes unique and highly skilled. Were going to lose BPA because we have focus on 1 side of the ball instead of thinking hey this guy can be a defensive guy as well as a Dirk/Pau combination type all start in this league. I think if Kaminsky played in a different team in an open system where h was allowed to take 4-5 threes to go along with 7-10 post/mid range shots he wouldve been in the 25-10 club in CBB.
Hamo49 @ 6/11/2015 4:36 AM
I'm still on Mudiay... But I still have two weeks to change my mind
Who ever we pick I'll be throwing my whole support behind him!!! I'm not anti anyone, they could all be stars.
