Knicks · Were going to trya nd put Stein and Monroe out there and win maybe 38 games? (page 1)

BRIGGS @ 6/11/2015 10:21 PM
Best of luck watching the slow Monroe and the offensively challenged Stein get spread out and the Knicks can exploited like the Pistons did this year playing two bigs in.

You cant defend teams that have 5 guys who can shoot pass and drive. Were trying to go back to 1994 and it wont work.

The NBA s changing and we BETTER notice and change with it. Its the Spurs model that works. Monroe would nOT play for the Spurs--maybe Stein but not Monroe.

jbeachboy @ 6/11/2015 10:31 PM
so you recommend drafting stein?

There are others avenues Id rather travel. One thing is for sure NOT Stein AND Monroe--wont work. Didnt work with Drummond who is WAY better than Stein.

Off this current topic, but what is the general feeling about Monroe again? I seem to think people here have been against signing him.

I’m not 100% against it if the idea is to play Melo at the 4 and try to mix and match a defense with those two in the front court. Monroe’s #s as the lone in-paint big are beastly. In 14-15 in 1082 minutes without Drummond on the floor, he had a TS 58.2, 1.14 PPP, 13.1 ORB%, 28.6 DRB%, free throw rate of 0.46. Those rebounding percentages would be roughly top 10 in both categories.

That's a pretty large sample size for one season.

Who cares who we draft at this point? That ship sailed when we decided to win the final 2 games
blkexec @ 6/11/2015 10:36 PM
Name a defensive big we can add.....whos not slow....and can guard PnR. Otherwise theres no debate.

1st of all Monroe is not slow. He actually runs the floor at a high level and finishes on the break at a high level. He's just not a high jumper but he can move. He actually faces up and drives a lot.

2nd the Triangle is designed to work with more than one post player. It's also called the Triple Post offense.

3rd Phil won titles with the Triangle and was in the playoffs in 2011. Not that long ago at all. It's been successful in recent times. Many of today's players were in the league when he was still coaching.

4th the pairing of WCS and Monroe would make sense. There will be other bigs to give the team more versatility as well. There's clearly a way to build a team with enough flexibility to be able to match up with differen styles.

Please say this again...I dont think they hear you. This is why the 4th pick can go in so many directions. The energy should be on free agency.

Monroe is a lefty as well. Supposed to give some advantage. He isn't slow, he is just gravity-inclined.

Wow. I think the Knicks sign Monroe. Not sure if they draft Stein at 4.
nixluva @ 6/11/2015 10:46 PM
I think WCS makes all kinds of sense at 4. This team needs rim protection and PNR defense. No one brings that combo on the level of WCS. Also WCS doesn't need the ball. We will have high usage guys already. He's effective without needing the ball. Defense, put backs, fast breaks and Alleyoops. WCS is perfect in the mix with Melo n Monroe.

A) Stein is faster and quicker than a PG. If you want to see what fast active bigs do for you, turn off your Frank Kaminsky highlight reel for a Minute and check out the NBA Finals where Mozgov and Thompson are playing insanely valuable roles.

B) Detroit never had Melo to spread the floor.

gunsnewing @ 6/11/2015 10:57 PM
yea Monroe will be a great FA signing even though he would've been much more effective next to Towns.

Constantly posting all day long about every player we are going to draft is a complete waste of time since that player is not doing to amount to anything significant. Maybe next time we are in the position to truly tank we won't screw it up. Which will probably be in the year we actually have our 1st rd pick. Maybe we will have a shot at the next Lebron and truly go back to being one of the most prestigious NBA franchises again. Until then we are looking at mediocrity to sub - .500

Excellent points. Team's will still have the problem of deciding who to double. The inside n outside action with WCS roaming for easy dunks will not be easy to deal with.

We fell two spots.
Team with worst record rarely gets the top pick. You know this in hindsight and your redundant.
