Knicks · How about taking Rubios 55mm contract for (page 1)

BRIGGS @ 6/12/2015 1:28 AM
Dieng picks 31 and 33. Well just absorb them. They wont get a deal like that anywhere imho.

C-Dieng

F Kaminsky pick 7 trade with Denver for a 2016 top 12 protected

F Carmelo

G Galloway

G Shveyd (3 years 15mm)

F-Mickey (pick 31)

F Bargnani 1 year 5mm

G Hardaway

G Fuzaro (pick 33)

G Rubio

Cole A 2 years 3mm

Jerrele Benimon 3 years league minimum

Jarell Eddie 3 years league minimum not guaranteed

Early

Josh Richardson UDFA years league minimum

Goal is to build it over two years and stockpile assets while we improve

Shved and Rubio back together is bricktastic but at least Calderon leadership will be there.. Over 20m tied up in 2/e unwanted guards but hey "one man's trash..."http://

I Like Schved but Rubio has to start

Rubio needs a year of playing time rehab. He might be better coming off unit 2. Hes still a good two way player but he needs smaller minutes with his body and time to continue developing his shot. On unit 2 he would be one of the most dynamic back ups in the league. Each unit would have a shot blocker who can also score 3 3 point shooters and 2-3 penetrators. Im looking for a trade the following year with my pick I take for a high quality SG--maybe DErozan unless development goes well and I dont have too? while allowing everyone to develop. This is a combination win now but aim towards the future. I really do not think there are massive short cuts. We need to respect the process and put in building bricks. This would be a much more balanced team than what we had with many more assets that I could potentially trade as the roster develops over 2 years.

Calderon is waived by the way--not on this team--hes a defensive sieve.

Sounds like a good idea- taking on a 5 year max contract of an injury prone player who doesn't fit the system for 2 second rounders - what's not to like!

If I got Dieng and the two players I want--whats not to like is right? The cap is going up substantially--Im not worried about what will be 10% of the cap. I want to rebuild this team using that cap space whatever is the best way to use it. In two years with a healthy Rubio it will be a steal. Sometime s people need to look outside of the box--Dieng is up and coming+ a high commodity. IF and I mean IF Minnesota wants out of Rubios contract Diendg and the players I want who have to be there or no deal. I still think this is a process wed be adding two young vets and a bunch of players we can help build the team with. If Kevin Durant is healthy--wed have a plethora of young players we could potentially trade this way. By adding Monroe and a Millsap were locking in on two huge contracts. By locking in on just a 12mm contract--we leave the flexibility for next year. If we try to push it all together in one year its going o back fire like an old Pinto. I think combination deals and trading down is the way to go. Were not winning a championship with Greg Monroe and Willie Stein. We need a full deep roster built over a couple of years into the style of play we want to run.

Not only does he not fit the system but he's one of the worst shooters in the league.

If the Knicks are talking Rubio then I want a pick swap 4 for 1 included. Otherwise blech.

franco12 @ 6/12/2015 8:35 AM
Ricky Rubio came into the league the same time as Steph Curry.

What has he accomplished? What is he going to become?

I think he's answered those questions. Nothing, nothing.

I'd rather see if I could pick up Pekovic for a pick - as he is also hurt, a bit older, and $12m for 2 more years.

fishmike @ 6/12/2015 8:38 AM
Can this fill the "we need to draft Frank" thread quota for the day?
WaltLongmire @ 6/12/2015 9:23 AM
We don't have a 2016 #1 to trade at this point....right?

fishmike wrote:Can this fill the "we need to draft Frank" thread quota for the day?

Start with frank, then work from their.LOL

I get what Briggs is proposing but I think we still have a shot at a franchise changing player. NO doubt Minny has two centers now and about to draft a big so they are ripe for a trade and Rubio's contract is a problem for them.

Towns is their PF and they will have a hell of a roster. Very youtier roster.

BRIGGS @ 6/12/2015 9:56 AM
Basically this post is saying

Im not in love with Greg Monroe

So I would ask for reasonable compensation from Minny IF they really want out of the 4 years and 48mm from Rubio.

Dieng--has to be part of the deal
2 high 2nd round picks of which I would need to have 2 of a selected 4 players who who has to be Fuzaro(Fuzaro would have to be a given or no deal)
and Rubio

This compensation to me is BETTER than getting Monroe

Id be able to select two players in a good draft get a C that actually fits very well with what we want to do(and plays defense) who is also 25 and adding Rubio who does need some rehab but as we have seen also has a high talent level BOTH ways at 6-5

I want to rebuild the team selecting smart players who play both ways plays a smart brand of basketball and filling the lower 5 roster spots with players that I can use and develop to potentially be used in trades in up coming years if need be with our lack of resources.

I DO NOT want to push all in in year 1 on a team that has no chance to do anything other than a 7-8 seed. I will NOT be dictated to by a player on the team. We can try to help Carmelo win but its a y-y process, He has a great year maybe his options are open maybe we can trad efor another star but its the flexibility of the approach where I do NOT have to rely on melo. Its enhance and get better or simply I am building my own team the way I want it built for the good of the fan.

Too many fans are being mislead that this team can go out and get a couple of free agents and a draft pick and this is ready to roll.

I hope for briggs sake we draft kaminsky, this way he doesnt jump out a window

I'm so happy that we're just fake GM's playing fantasy build the Knicks cause if this were real we'd again be the laughing stock of the NBA and I can't live with that for to much longer.
NardDogNation @ 6/12/2015 10:04 AM
I don't think this trade is unreasonable at all. In fact, I like it a lot. The only thing that will be available to us in free agency are bad contracts that teams are looking to dump or players on the verge of signing a bad contract. If that really is the case, I'd prefer pursuing the former option because it would at least give us additional assets and/or picks. Maybe we could even move Ricky to the Nets for the ghost of Deron Williams. Yes, it'd cost us a ton of money in the short run BUT Williams has the shorter contract and is a better fit for the triangle (playing 2 guard ala Jason Kidd). It isn't ideal but I think Gorgui Dieng has the ability to be a household name if put in the right situation, which is rare coming from 5's. For him, I'd put the bullet on the dead salary we'd be acquiring.

Everyone knows -who was here that I wrote about 500 posts why we should take Andrew Bynum over Channing Frye and I was right. Bynum if he didnt hurt himself wouldve been 1st team all NBA for years. He still helped win 2 chips. If I felt that strongly about Stein I would've done the same--I dont. I dont think hes a bad player--I just think Kamnisn ky the way the NBA is being player right now is much better choice. I just look at it simply--and anyone can verify this--I said once GS changed to 5 out they would win--they shouldve used D lee even more last night. There is NO defense for 5 guys who can shoot dribble pass and shoot. You can have moments but its impossible to guard for 48 minutes. Clev has a very GOOD defensive team. But defense will not win this series and it wont in the NBA anymore. You need to play it but you better be able to score 105 or more. You NEED offensive players who play smart team D.

Bonn1997 @ 6/12/2015 10:04 AM
For that price, they'd have to give me this year's #1 pick or next year's pick unprotected. $55 mil is too steep for the proposed package. Rubio I wouldn't want to give more than $5 or so mil to and $1 mil might be the value of each 2nd round pick. So you're basically giving Dieng a $50 mil contract. He hasn't done enough to merit that.

I think Dieng is a lottery pick by himself. Hes a lottery pick cost. A C who can pass block shot score and rebound. IF we get two additional players we pick and add Rubio as a sixth man or 7th man--we get our moneys worth

Thats a starting C
A 6 or 7 man
2 high 2s that we pick
for 12mm $
