Lakers: Kristaps Porzingis
Knicks: Julius Randle, 27th and 34th picks
Why:
Lakers: Porzingis is a great fit next to Okafor. Protects the rim and stretches the floor.
Knicks: Aquire a superduper talented Randle while getting not one but two draft picks they are rumored to be interested in.
Superduper talented Randle who has already had multiple knee surgeries. Too big a gamble for my taste. The low draft picks are decent but not good enough value for a 4th pick.
of course its from a lakers site. like our ex-lakers personnel haven't given them enough assists!

I talked about doing something like this for Melo. If they want Melo, Randle and picks 27 & 34 is where you'd start as far as an asking price. I'd even ask for Clarkson (Clarkson and Jabari Brown really) plus they take his ridiculous contact off our hands which everyone including me will hate 2 years from now--shedding Melo's contract is a huge benefit in of itself. To get that package, I would put THJ, Early and Galloway all on the table (they could pick 2 of the 3 who are all fully replaceable anyway). Or maybe we work in Calderon and let them keep either Clarkson, Brown or one of the picks. Something like that...But that's for Melo, not pick 4. If we trade Melo it's to execute a fuller/truer rebuild, something I was in favor of ever since Melo hit free agency. No matter what we do (keep Melo or trade him to rebuild closer from scratch), pick 4 needs to be a part of it. Either we keep the pick and execute at 4 or maybe we trade down a few spots to pick up another asset or two, depending if it's lucrative enough or not.
It just shows you how difficult it is to make a trade. Both sides are trying to get over. Usually ends in a stalemate. Unless someone really needs to unload a player, then it's a different story. If the Lakers are really trying to unload Randle, then Phil needs to up the asking price. The Lakers probably see OK4 and Randle as redundant. They rather have Porzingis, which is where they were suppose to pick anyway, which is why they have interest in him. OK4 is too much to pass up, and they rather not trade him.....
Lets hope Phil is smart enough to ignore these types of trades, and make a better counter. Randle is probably worth a late 1st, but not a top 4.....But it's the start of a package deal that could take flight on draft day, after a few counters.

Of course its hard to make a trade, but its not fans who dictate who.
If you want to really get into it you have to look at how the other team benefits, not rape trades.
What does Lakers want? What direction are they going in? do they want Kobe around beyond this year? Kevin Durant made 54 million this year, or about 30+ off the court.
Kobe could pull a ton from endorsements as a mature player on a winning team beyond next year if he can stay healthy and as a role player. He has name recognition.
back on track, what does minny want? Would they do better swaping the no. 1 for the 4, take Porgzingus and give us Rubio to open up cap space?
Does Phil want Towns that bad? and......Is rubio serviceable for us?
Rubio and Calderone for one year? Does that move us forward?

If we give up Melo, it would be to get a top 3 pick, not a bottom of the first round. Geez man, Randle is not equivalent to Melo. He's an oft-injured wannabe, whereas Melo is a bonafide superstar.

Won't comment on the Finestrg trade idea, but...
Anthony is not worth a 1-7 pick anymore, and I'm being generous. Most of the teams with picks that high are rebuilding, need more than one player, and are not going to give up picks 1-3 for Anthony, an aging scorer coming off an injury.
A good team that had a bad season because of injury might do that type of trade, if Anthony fit well in their lineup. Trading the 15th pick for a guy who might get you a title, especially if you have an older team that was going to be broken up some point soon, might be a good idea.
Celtic did that a few years ago...no?
But I'd bet my house that none of the team drafting 1-3 would give up that pick for Anthony at this stage of his career.
That is a really bad trade for us. Randle at this current state is not worth a #4 pick overall. Now is they want to do a Melo for the #2 and #27 pick then I think its a good deal all around.

I agree.....it's just a Laker fan making up the trade. But sometimes it's based on some Laker rumor as well.
But it's always fun to play GM decision making....Which is why this UK site has flourished so well.
I'm terrible at trade ideas....But I'm pretty good at building a team (at least thats my track record based on my city league championships).
But yes, there's lots to consider when making a trade, which is Phil's weakness since he's only a Rookie. Not sure if anybody on his staff has successful GM experience. But for the most part, I agree with you!
I think Phil is in an interesting position, with so many trade options and draft options.....I can't remember us having this much flexibility before. It's really a bad time to have a rookie GM right now. But a good time to have Phil on board. How is that for a contradictive statement?
