http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/130833... Mike Malone has been hired as the new coach of the Denver Nuggets, sources told ESPN on Monday.
Mike Malone was fired by the Kings after getting off to an 11-13 start this past season.
Malone, who went 39-67 over parts of two seasons after the Sacramento Kings hired him following the 2013 season, was the lone candidate to interview twice for the Nuggets.
He replaces Melvin Hunt, who took over on an interim basis for Brian Shaw, who was fired in early March. Besides Hunt, former Phoenix Suns, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers coach Mike D'Antoni also was a candidate for the position.
Malone is a veteran NBA assistant who made stops with the Knicks, Cleveland Cavaliers, New Orleans Hornets and Golden State Warriors before being hired as coach in Sacramento. He was fired on Dec. 14 after the Kings had started 11-13 this season.
The hiring was earlier reported by Yahoo! Sports.
I don't get it- they just hired the GM who fired him out of spite just a few weeks ago!
Nice hire. He's definitely a good defensive coach, he built the Warriors current defense, and his players seem to like playing for him. I would've preferred hiring him instead of Fisher if he was available last Summer.
This hire might mean Denver is in for a full rebuild..Bringing a young coach with little experience over a seasoned coach..There might be a fire sale in Denver..
