After Okafor being the consensus #1 pick all year, why is there no question that Towns goes first?
I admit I am no college ball expert, far from it, but it didn't seem that Towns was dominant enough to be far and away #1 without a doubt. IS everyone so sure he'll be the best player out of this draft?

There's a chance Okafor winds up better than him in the end, you can't predict these things... but it's not even really a debate anymore. Towns is 100% the number 1 pick.

I'm one of the few thAt thinks Okafor should be the overall number one. Since the T-Wolves have it I know they will pick Towns and Lakers get the better of the two it's just what T-Wolves do.

It's his video..they put out a video of him shooting threes and everyone went crazy..They think he will be doing it in games..Even Stein put out a video shooting threes..You would think that would wise people up..Its why they are now going nuts over the Euro kid..
All year of watching them play and u get no pulse..Put out a 4 min video knocking down jumpers and it changes the world..
Towns didn't have one go to move in the post in college..NOT ONE..After the video, some one on this site claims he is the best center to come out in 30 years..

Did you watch Towns play against Notre Dame or Wisconsin or Florida or Auburn? He is absolutely the real deal. Kentucky used a platoon system - but there's a reason that they have four players who scored 10ppg this year who are being considered as lottery picks - Towns, Stein, Booker, Lyles.

1st off, he wasn't the consensus #1 pick all year. Prior to the NCAA season it was him and Mudiay for #1 with Towns lurking behind them. But, as the season played on Okafor got hurt and his numbers fell off a bit and Towns really started coming into his own. They also do different things. Okafor is a very polished post player who can pass well out of a double team. But he's only an average rebounder and a below average defender. Towns doesn't have a polished post game but he has better range and is a much better defender and rebounder.

Very good question....I think Towns is #1 by default. This isn't a draft where the top player just stands out. This draft is very hard to predict who the franchise players are, because it's purely based on potential. Which is why Porzingis, Turner, Kaminsky etc.....all have the ability to be the best player in this draft.
Towns has the most potential because he's a legit 2 way player. But I tend to question his ability to play defense without getting into foul trouble. Stein has that ability, which is why he was the consistant anchor for that defense. But Towns for the most part, was on the bench in foul trouble.
Ok4 clearly put up the most dominating stats in college. But his lack of defense put a dent in his stock value. Then Towns video only locked him in as the top pick. But there's really no clear top pick in this draft. Russell has as much potential as Porzingis to be the best player. This is why pick #4 or any pick in the 1st round is critical to any franchise. I believe this draft will have some of the most franchise type players up and down the 1st round, regardless of the mock draft ranking.
Turners latest video only proves my point.....There's no such thing as a reach in this draft, because almost anybody in the 1st round are interchangeable. I think Payne might be the best PG, and he's currently ranked 3rd or 4th as far as PG ranking. Same with Stein....If Kentucky was really holding him back offensively, and he turns out to be a 15 or more scorer.....He could be the best player.
It's wide open in my opinion....

I watched many of his games as I wanted to see the difference between Okafor and Towns. While I feel Okafor is the better of the two. I always maintained that Towns will be a good pro. When I watched I watched a player that was heavily protected by system. When I watched OKafor I felt he was the system. His team was geared around his prowess. Kentucky not so much around Towns. For Okafor it was you have to stay in the game you can't get into foul trouble. You can't be excessively aggressive on defense. On Kentucy you couldn't focus on Towns alone they had waves of players so he could be aggressive on defense he could fly around and take a chance. In the end you have to ask yourself do you want a Rasheed Wallace type or a Tim Duncan type.

It's about who will be the better player on both ends of the court in a couple of years which is easily Towns which is why everyone thinks he'll be the top pick.

That may be a fair assesment, but I think Towns is more active and effective in the post. I think Towns has a higher ceiling than Wallace. Maybe what Wallace could've been if he wasn't a bit loony. Towns is also much bigger than Wallace - or seems it.
But I agree with you that Okafor was the system at Duke. I think at worst he will be a DeMarcus Cousins type. I don't think he can be Duncan just because of lack of defensive prowess and ability. He can be Duncan on offense, or maybe even more like a slightly smaller Shaq.

Actually that's not true. He was being considered the top pick way before that video but i'll give you that it did lock it down more but to act as if without that video he wouldn't of been the top pick is wrong.

I think Stein's defense absolutely makes him the third best big in the draft. He doesn't have the offensive ceiling Towns does and to compare Stein's offense to Okafor's is just not fair.
I love Stein - but if he ever averaged 17ppg in an NBA season, I would be shocked. Okafor will put that up easily as a rookie and Towns will be at 17-18ppg by year 2 or 3, I'd think.

Did you see Rasheed when he played in Portland? He was IMHO one of the best PFs he was hit threes he was posting players up. He was a force he was one of the most talented PFs in the game. He was hitting threes at that time he was pioneering the stretch 4. He was one of the best team players also. His problem was his propensity to be a hot head and pick up Techs.

Agree...it's clear what you get with Ok4.....And history shows when a guys dominates college ball, he usually turns out pretty good at the next level.
