He is a UFA. I think I am going after him in the off season over any other C. We get Porzingis, Okafor or Russell and I think he is compatible with any of them.
He beasted in the Finals. Very limited offensive game, but he's exactly the sort of rim protector we need, particularly if we draft Russell/Mudiay and sign Monroe. Do you think we could fit Monroe+Moz in the cap space we have? How much would he demand in the open market after his amazing Finals performances?

I would say he is going to get a MLE + plus $1 or 2 million/yr
Mozgov will easily get $10M-$12M a year. If not more.
Don't underestimate a) how much good defensive big men get and b) the bump free agents who play well in the Finals get.
I wouldn't mind pursuing him, especially if the Knicks do not draft Stein, but he did seem pretty happy in Cleveland and I imagine he'd actually try to stay there.

he isn't, he is under contract until next offseason (it's a team option for just under $5mil)
Strikes me as the type someone will overpay for... He's Robin Lopez but I do have a soft spot for the Moz!
Monroe+Moz are a terrible fit. Monroe isnt a 4, he's a 5. If you get him to play center great. He's a terrible 4.
I like Timo a ton, but he's a fit player, not a get player. Meaning if you put Mos around the wrong types of players he's going to look terrible, but next to a stretch 4 or a guy who creates space I love him.
Monroe or Mos is one or the other... not both.
They can pay Love or Thompson and MOzzy.
They do have Varajao as well.
Be nice if JR opts out. Thats 6million.

If JR opts out, he's insane. No team will give him 6 million ever again. I hope he knows to hold onto that cheddah while he can!

personally I'd rather try and get Varajao and their first for the cap space... they have a lot of guys to resign

What JR is doing is the right move.
3yrs at 4 mil is 12million dollars....And that cheaper than his last contract.
12 million for 3 years is better than 6 million for 1 year!

But in one year, the cap explodes and JR will be able to sign for 2 years @ $5M per year - and that is $16m over three years!
I'll assume JR has a smart agent. Of course, this is JR, and he might not.

Dude the avg salary is about to be 8 mill per..and JR as streaky as he is, he's still an above avg player

and you think cleveland's russian coach is going to let his russian player walk

Yes and no. He has a team option. If Cleveland exercises then he is not an FA else Mozzie is a UFA

That option is for 5 mil per and two first round picks later..I can almost 100% guarantee they will pick that up...

There is no yes and no about it- Cavs are picking that $5mil option.

Are you sure? Hoopshype has him with a $6.4 mil PLAYER option.

That's JR, Mosgov is a team option
