yeah ... all other GM's are really dumb and fall for this reverse psych sh1t
Well Philly does not have to trade up to get Porzingis because they are ahead of us.
Hinkie supposedly found out that Orlando really wanted Payton and took him knowing that Orlando would come begging, and he managed to leverage some assets from them in the trade they made.
Just some pre-draft maneuvering and posturing, which is always a good thing because it puts doubt in people's minds.
The way I look at it is that just a couple of days ago he was talking about trading out if OK4 was not there, despite the fact that everyone we were interested in had been worked out already.
We all pretty much know that he would love to have Russell running his offense, and I don't think there are many on UK who would be that upset if Russell fall into our lap. We actually went through the entire secret workout ordeal and Russell stomach cramps thing, clearly sending out an indication that we are interested, but picking Russell still depends on Philly letting him pass.
Then we have a pretty sudden workout with Porzingis, who has been reported to be cold about going to Philly, and is more interested in LA, Orlando, or the Knicks, a team he once talked about in an article. He worked out for LA, and as far as I know, went to Orlando for an interview, but did not work out.
Now we hear that Jackson is almost positive that he will keep the pick at 4, and we learn about it after Porzingis was unable to finish his workout.
“We had to change the workout,’’ Jackson said. “He had a cramp in the middle of it. He did go through the workup with the medical staff that was impressive.’’
Means that they medically examined him, which only 2 other teams have done so far. If he does not work out with Philly, they can't examine him, which is something teams have to do before drafting someone.
We know that Phil would love to get OK4, but he seems to know that the Lakers will take him. Saying that there is only a 5% chance of making a trade with the 4 tells me that he is happy taking Russell or Porzingis. Could be lying about this, but the timing is relevant, IMO, and until know he's never given a more certain comment about keeping the pick.
Still believe there is a possibility that we trade down if Porzingis is there and we get blown away by an offer that still allows us to get a guy like Kaminsky or Winslow and a pick for next year, but he seems more certain about his willingness to go with the two guys who will probably be there at 4.
Only time will tell, though.
