Jackson also was asked what he cherished more in a big man — the ability to pass and score or be a dominant defender.
“Defender,'' Jackson said to applause, adding to the irony of his trade of Chandler last offseason. “That's a good starting point — a guy like Tyson Chandler and the defensive passion they have to have. So many screen and rolls, so many 3-point shooters, a player of size has to cover and protect the basket but also step out defensively and do defensive work on the extreme part of the floor. It's very important for that player to have defensive capabilities.''
This is why its been easy to know who we are picking the whole time--Jackson told you 9 weeks ago.
Even if this was his plan at first, why should he stick with it now that everybody is aware of his foot problems?
BS.
He cherishes the ability for a big man to be a role player on an elite shooting guard's team.

WCS has increased his vertical to 42 inches-- that some kind of foot problem that I would like too.? This is all subterfuge.
Only Briggs will try and link phills words to stein....but others see this as an on going strategy during his time with the knicks. Stein isnt the only rim protector in the world with lateral quickness. Hes just the must advertised. Phill is not passing on ok4 and russell for stein. But if stein is the bpa....then welcome aboard.

If the Knicks have the 4th pick then why would the Knicks need to set up a smokescreen with him of all people? If anything, they should be raving about how dominant he is so that the Sixers raise their eyebrows so that we have a chance at Russell.
I think there is no shot the Knicks draft Stein. To me it's a big 3 if they fall, Mudiay or Porzingus, who seems to have more upside then Stein.

You do realize that every single person on here remembers this and it's been talked about over and over again when it happened a while ago right?? Why are you bringing it back up now is what i'm wondering??

I think a lot of people linked his words to WCS when he did this presser. I'm wondering why it's being made into another thread again.

Don't use too much brain power you might get a headache. Keep to your knee.
BRIGGS, thanks, We had completely forgotten that you think Stein is a lock at #4...You hadn't mentioned it much the past couple weeks.
for what its worth calipari was on with francesa today and he doesn't think the knicks are taking stein.. he thought there was a better chance the team would trade back a few picks to take lyles, which i would 100% support. i honestly think lyles is the most underrated player in this draft, which is tough to say since he's being talked about in the top10 picks, but with his size, athleticism, motor, and raw skills, i think he's going to be the best player to come out of this draft.

You dont trade down from 4 to take a 19 year old PF who doenst shoot 3's doesnt block shots and has only fair athletic ability. That is not a trade back scenario--that would be castigated. It would imply that CAA feeds the NY Knicks players at that is that. It would mean Phil Jackson is simply taking a big check as a fake president.
Trey Lyles is one of the worst defensive prospects in the top 20 from ANY position.

Says me and 20 scouting reports.
So id give up a 7-2 C or a 6-5 PG for the right to actually trade down to take a hurt player and a poor defensive player? Its the stupidest F thing Ive heard of.
Trey Lyles should be taken around 13-17. I think Rakeem Christmas is a better prospect than Trey Lyles. He plays solid defense blocks shots and he actually DOES have a high motor.

ive watched lyles enough to form my opinion, i don't care what you or 20 other scouts say. the stupidest f thing ive ever heard is you making 20 threads about you reading "tea leaves" that the knicks are taking stein #4. im glad you think christmas is a better prospect, he certainly is someone i would like to have, but i personally think lyles is going to be a stud in the pros, he has the ability and athleticism to turn himself into a good defensive player who already has a good offensive game.

Trey Lyles is only a fair athlete at best. Myles Turner is a superior athlete with a much higher ceiling if we want a pure 4. Kaminsky is better Im not even talking Hezonja Porzingis Mudiay because all of those guys have #4 draft pick status. You dont go 17 - wins trade down from an elite position to take a non defensive player who is currently the 6 th ranked PF. Id take WCS over Lyles even if hes hurt.
