He's 35 and opts out of a $12mm deal. Maybe he's looking for a 3 year gig paying the same. Maybe Indy plans on keeping him. Who knows.
Maybe it could be a Sprewell like blunder. Who knows?.... Unless he just wants to retire.
He's a great piece for a contender. I heard at one point he wanted to go back to Indy, but he did go there on a discount. Maybe he wants to get paid above all.

Yeah either a contender or more than just the remaining year on his contract. No way I'd want him on the Knicks, just too old.
The type of dudes we need on our roster to keep Carmelo in check. A true leader
Depending on what the makeup of the team was, I'd love having West here. But I agree there are too many other holes to use $15M+ of our $27M on a 35yr old PF.

thats the problem. I think he would be great as well, but he's simply a commodity we cant afford.
I understand from West's point of view why he may prefer a contending team, but if he's looking to add another year of guaranteed money, I'd offer him 2 years $20 million, depending on how certain dominoes fall. That kind of addition is often overlooked for a rebuilding team, but West is exactly the kind of leader I'd want our young guys practicing with day after day.
Melo played his best ball with Sheed and Kidd in his ear. He could benefit from a move like this as well.
