They can't pay him more than other teams aka no five year contracts and no 7.5% raises.

That's not correct. Atlanta doesn't have full Bird right but Carroll signed a 2-year deal so Atlanta has Early Bird rights. I don't know what their cap situation is but if they're over the cap they can offer him a contract starting at 175% of his previous contract. They can offer 7.5% yearly raises but they can't offer 5 years.

Yeah, but as a UFA, he's going to get far more than a 175% raise. He's getting like a 300% raise from $4M per year to at least $12M per.
I really don't think Atl was planning on him coming back anyway.
this is great... he could def be the glue guy. I think he + Monroe is a solid and reasonable offseason FA wise.

Just looked up Atlanta's cap number. Atlanta has less than $40M in salary for next season. They have more than enough space to offer Carroll a max contract if they feel like.

They do, but there's a rumor they're losing Millsap, too. Will they be able to max Carroll and find a starting PF? Seems like they may need to retool a little.
lol, love the thread title crzy.

The important factor here - and the point of the thread - is basically that if New York offers Carroll say 4yrs $50M, Atlanta can offer the same starting salary, but cannot offer larger raises. They'd have to offer a higher starting salary to better the offer. And they can't go 5 years, which I assumed they could. They can only go 4 years like everyone else.

I'm predicting armageddon on the board tonight, no matter what happens. This thread will probably be on page five by tomorrow morning.

I can live with that. Say we run out:
Mudiay / Calderon
Galloway
Carroll
Melo
Monroe
That's a good perimeter D squad. Not good on the interior. We'd probably want to add some better centers, maybe Ajinca or something with the midlevel? To give the option of playing a little bigger.
At this point, I'm just leaning towards drafting Mudiay or Winslow. I really hope they don't trade down unless they get bowled over.

I would be thrilled if they just took Mudiay and called it a day... and while the above squad lacks interior D its not a disaster. Melo keeps guys in front of him and Monroe is an excellent rebounder and doesnt miss games. I have no doubt Monroe would give us 15ppg 12rebs playing full time center.
regardless its a huge upgrade from anything we saw last year and I like Mudiay/Galloway/Carroll on the perimeter
