Knicks · What's your realistic free agent wish list (page 2)
We get a WINNING CULTURE from winners, players work HIGH IQ, HIGH WORK ETHIC, and willingness to SACRIFICE for the better of the team
Though he is a bit SLOW for a SG, he also has great size/length and is a smart defender, the past couple seasons as the LEADING SHOT BLOCKER for ALL NBA guards, along with solid steals 3pt shots made with high %, and with his versatility would allow us to play SMALL BALL vs some teams with match ups, he could be used to play SF/PF when teams go small, while still being a solid rebounder and the trailer for WIDE OPEN 3pters
He spreads the floor and that is very much needed, especially if we have LEGIT ALL STAR's on our roster, with talents that could draw double/triple teams
Phil Jackson now has to find talents that have the ability to get to the RIM, FINISH, and capable of facilitating
Along with DEFENSIVE talents on our roster, a reason why WCS was considered, though we are bringing in DeAndre Jordan and if he can continue to work on his OFFENSIVE GAME, would shine under the Triangle with his infectious work ethic that we saw a stinct of him carrying more OFFENSIVE LOADS when Blake Griffen and Crawford were both out about a month, though they did have CP3, Reddick, Matt Barnes, Spencer Hawes *only time he gave some solid contributions*, and Jordan showcasing what he could do if given an opportunity, reuniting Phil Jackson with a Jordan and a Grant
With KP at PF in hopefully 1-2 seasons, and his skill sets, it would allow Jordan to have more room to work with 1v1 DOWN LOW, given his freakish athleticism, strength, mobility, and physical abiltiies
Clippers already have offered him a FULL MAX extension, in which he still is seeking to hear other opportunities from other teams, leading me to believe he also wants a bigger role on OFFENSE than just DEFENSE/REBOUNDING
Luckily Dolan is known to be willing to overpay for AGEING athletes and Jordan is 26, turning 27, and with a possible 4year deal with a player option on year 3 when we get his full bird rights, we can continue to give him another contract, possibly even 2 contracts *with the final one likely his last* Dolan will reward players that can restore a Championship and Phil Jackson is not only building our roster but our entire orginzation/management from the BOTTOM UP, as know other GM/PRESIDENT was ever able to convince Dolan to do
Now if we can get rid of Calderon or make him part of a trade for Jordan *if we can sell him the idea of being our Bill Russell and Shaq*
Jordan can force Clippers to trade with us or just sign with us outright, along with getting rid giving them Shved/Early or/and other talents like Cole Aldrich/Acey and a future 1st rounder
To pair with Thanais,
After that we would need some 3 and D type players with some cheaper options being possibly
Wesley Johnson/Aminu both of which are UFA
Jae Crowder RFA
Unsure RFA,
=============
not sure if we can offer them contracts, as they were 2nd rounders, especially Mike Muscula who was pick 44 and a player that Briggs felt we should have drafted at 24 over Tim Hardaway JR
Possibly even poison pill...
not sure if
Ray Mcclaum *if Kings to trade for Lawson and already have Darren Collison*
Mike Muscula
with the more expensive players being Danny Green/Wesley Matthews *though I do not think he will get anything close to the 15m that he has said to seek coming off his achilles injury
Some other options at PF could instead of David West *unless he takes a HUGE PAYCUT like about 6m*, giving time to develop KP, that could be more cost efficient include
Brandon Wright
Lavoy Allen/Brandon Bass
Ajinicia
Thomas Robinson
Serephin/Joel Freeland
for vets,
Scola/Boozer
maybe Kris Humphries/Trevor Booker *both of which have team options*
Not sure what David West would command but hopefully not over 8m on a 2year deal, which he opted a 12.5m contract from Pacers
David West would provide a toughness/leadership/veteran presence that helped translate the Pacer's from a young team with the development of Paul George/Hill/Lance/Hibbert *was once one of the better Centers*
Adding to the toughness, experience, which West brings, helping them be a TOP DEFENSIVE team and some semi Conference and Conference Finals to 7 games for many years, losing to Lebron/Heat by 1-2 possessions each year
Despite not having AN "ALL STAR" type of player until Paul George elevated his status 2 seasons ago, which Danny Granger helped him develop in to with Tyler Hansbrorugh
So while I would understand why we would want him, I hope we do not overpay for his services, especially on a multiyear deal
IF we are able to trade Calderon, fillins, and a future 1st rounder for Jordan,
Maybe even Andre Miller/Paul Pierce *though he could sign with Clippers for FULL MLE 6m, if we are able to acquire D Jordan
A rental could also be for Roy Hibbert, who has some experience with The Triangle with Brian Shaw taking some of it when he was the lead assistant when Indiana were consistently taking Lebron James and The Heat to 6 and 7 games series, losing just by 1-2 possesions cosistently in consective games/years
Shabazz Muhaummad and maybe some other older talents Kevin Martin/Budinger *expiring*
Or Pekovic to acquire MULTIPLE FUTURE ASSETS *though would need to lose Calderon in the process, possibly having another amnesty in the works with the new CBA negatations by next summer
Tony Wroten, Isiah Cannon, Ish Smith, Hollis Thompson, Covington, Thomas Robinson, Grant *brother of our Grant*
I think both Scotty Hopson and Jarrell Eddie that are on the D League that could play LEAD and OFF guard in this system, both of which can shoot very well, with Eddie being the better shooter but Hopson being the more skilled and athletic talent, as well as Jerrille Beniminon, Phil Jackson should lock these guys up, IMO
Along with possibly buying low on talents if possible
Russ Smith out of Louisville was a rookie last season and I think he could be available as he could be waived or traded for nothing
Smith is very quick/fast/athletic and skinny to fit through PnR's and explosive and strong, with a good handle, fitting through cracks and great hands for steals, just like Manu Ginobili did when he was younger
He has 2 more years and was a mid/later 2nd rounder last season...
as they already have
Conley
Udrih *who plays very well for them and is in great shape while he was out of shape as a Knick*
Nick Calathes
and drafted/traded for Andrew Harrison and Luke Ridnour *non guaranteed so likely waived*
Though Andrew Harrison *scouts feel he is much closer to a BIG PG* was drafted and his brother wasn't, who was a very clutch scorer and closer to a combo/SG with some PG skills and great size
Some solid players for the CHEAP that I think we should at least consider and bring in to summer league right away
I think a team will sign some of these players and I chose 3 players that would fit our system with their skills no matter what, while there are other talents depending on how we fill our roster as well
=========================
1- Fast break, with multiple players that can rebound and quickly push the ball before DEFENSES are set, exactly what GS did vs The Cavs after Iggy was inserted in to the SL
David Lee would be an asset in this system that we could look to sign at a discount given his age and ability to play point/forward/Center *backup*, with a solid POST GAME/FACILATOR *prior to this past year where he played a different limited role to execute the philosophy of Steve Kerr's system and defensive philosophies
We need to be able to make easy HIGH % shots, with the fast break and through penetrate/post up's
To consistently initiate our OFFENSE whether through any system or The Triangle
2- We need MULTIPLE talents that can attack the basket/penetrate/finish/facilitate
or
3-Post players that can come come from many positions, depending on match ups to go inside out
4- with Ball movement and player movement (purpose player movement/screens on and off the ball) to allow role players to feel engaged in the game to stay focus and ready for a wide open shot
The more players touch the ball, the harder they will play, it is just natural, a movement away from the ISO ball that Woodson was accustomed to
While he did LIMIT our TO's, it was not efficient, as we didn't attack our opponents DEFENSE, constantly making players work/exert energy on both ends of the floor, while our opponents were able to rest on DEFENSE as our OFFENSE was too predictable, allowing fast break opportunities if we miss the shot and they grabbed the rebound
That is why we need multiple play makers that can create their own shot and create for their team mates
After a couple of years of experience, our players will realize the Triangle can free up many different players and allow us to get wide OPEN SHOTS, though we must first accumulate the talent to do so first
That is why we need to get as many players as possible, that will be part of our roster in the future, needing majority of our rotations/roster understanding/executing the system effectively and efficiently
That was part of the reason for Phil Jackson to select KP to go with his potential and work ethic that will also take 2-3 seasons, along with him filling out his body
With some undrafted FA's and even D League talents, we want a combination of YOUNG TALENT and VETERAN LEADERSHIP/MENTOR SHIP to get where we want to be in terms of building a winning culture
All of which would lead us to HIGH % shots consistently, especially when our players/coach learn to fully execute the TRIANGLE, taking advantage of match ups and our scorers
C - R. Lopez / Koufos / Ajinca / Asik or O'quinn - all are worth checking out. I am quite curious what we can get from O'quinn.
PF - West or Bass. I would go with Bass for finance reasons.
SG - D. Green or Carroll.
Would resign - C. Aldrich , Galloway (must keep), Shved, Admundson.
Rest should prove they are worthy in SL or trening camp. We can get better player than last year.
monroe
ajinca
lavoy allen
danny green

oQuinn
Tristan Thompson wants more than 13MM, Harris pursuing a max deal, cap space means very little when guys like Chandler Parsons or Haywood can command 15MM a season. Carroll expected to get 10+, Matthews thinking he is a max player. Danny Green is a 6MM a year player and some team is going to give the 4/5th best player 11MM, when he can't dribble, create or rebound at an elite level.
We are lucky to get one role player and one impact guy with our cap space.
Maybe someone like Brandon Wright on the cheap, overpay crowder a little.
Then can we still afford to get West? That's the stuff I can't figure out. That would allow Zinger to develop in his own pace and Melo to play the 3.
2. KJ McDaniels - talented but he needs to work on his shooting but can be pretty solid off the bench as is...
3. Jae Crowder - we're going to need his defense... and if he starts shooting then he's basically demarre carroll
4. Cole Aldrich - definitely want to bring him back
5. John Jenkins - worth a flyer
I do not want to give big money to role player types and that includes carroll and green... basically give the max to monroe and take flyers on some of other young guys and hope they take a step forward...
i don't think we need to get a C since i think Porzingis is going to need to develop as a C in order for him to succeed...
why you want cole aldrich back?
Green or Mo Williams
Equals Playoffs

aldrich is a decent big body that is not going to get big money since i don't think any team expects him to play more than 25mpg and best used at about 20mpg... he knows the triangle and he's actually not bad if you look at his numbers.. he's a lot better than ajinca imo...
he's 25.. he's solid on the boards and he has decent block rates... he def deserves to be back over someone like jason smith...
and we do need a defensive center but they are always expensive... i think monroe and porzingis can split enough time there that we can survive with aldrich and maybe another signing holding the fort until porzingis is ready... that's his future and we need to start grooming him in that role so someone like robin lopez is just going to hurt his progress while being a bit overvalued anyway...

I like O'Quinn but I thought he would be a lot better this year. Not sure if he is going to put it together and fulfill his potential. I think Allen would be a really good value pick up.
FistOfOakley wrote:1. Greg Monroe - he should be our #1 target..I agree about Monroe. I know he isn't the most popular name here but I think he will be really good in the triangle and I think his best days are in front of him. I saw that the Celtics are going to give Crowder his qualifying offer but Crowder said he hoped he could work something out with the Celtics so he is looking to get paid. I think Crowder would be a great pick up. I like the idea of West coming to NY if it is a reasonable deal for both parties. West gave up 12 mil next year. My guess is he wants the security of more years and would take less per year to get more years. I think he could fill a big void for the Knicks and Melo. The Knicks all of a sudden are a really young team. I think West could fill the leadership void and is still young enough to start for a couple of more years.

Maybe this is where we can jump in and try to poach Cory Joseph from them.
I'd rather have west at $9 million than deandre Jordan as I want my big on the floor hitting free throws, not getting hacked with 5 minutes to play.
Was not high on west before. A defensive 3 point shooting wing and west is enough for me.
Realistic and baby steps us towards a solid future.
