Until they were confident they could trade Hardaway and draft Grant as per NY Post..
Not sure if this is getting any attention
In the hours before the draft, on-site ESPN reporter Chris Broussard reported the Knicks were taking point guard Emmanuel Mudiay with the fourth pick if there wasn’t a swap. However, when the Knicks were confident they could trade Tim Hardaway Jr. if Notre Dame senior point guard Jerian Grant fell to 19, the need for Mudiay evaporated.
And yet there's another report that they had given Porzingis a promise prior to the draft.
Interesting- goes against the Marc Spears Tweet I did a thread on:
Only problem with this is that there is no way you can know whether or not Grant was going to be there at 19. Somebody could have traded up for him, like Minny did with Jones at 24.
Hard to believe that you make a big decision at #4, and then have to wait 15 picks to see if your guys is still there. You would REALLY have to have some opposition team info to make this decision, IMO.
This is another interesting one linked to Mudiay:
I could never in a million years get behind picking Mudiay...just never.
This makes no sense...Chris Broussard is full of crap.
Dude is considered a joke around Knicks front office.

He doesn't seem to have sources. He often tweets rumors hours after other reporters have them. Not sure how connected he is. I think Windhorst is passing him by and I never expected that.
Mudiay Upside: OJ mayo
Downside: Chris Duhan

He's the worst. He never has anything worthwhile to report.
Wouldn't even debate Mudiay's talent, or Broussard's sources... Its the concept of the trade...you simply can't make a pick at 4 with the assurance that 15 picks later the guy you want is there.
This is why he probably came up with his crazy scheme:
Ford's final mock also had Mudiay being taken- maybe Broussard's source was eventually used by Ford??
Broussard is just trying to cover his butt because he called it incorrectly...I imagine he might have said this
"Look, I was right, but then Phil Jackson was somehow able to know that Grant would still be available at 19, perhaps using the powers of a Zen Master to know what will happen in the future!"
God Broussard, gimme a break
Same guy who a few hours before lebron published his SI article about Goin back the CLE reported that the letter from Gilbert still bothered lebron too much to go back home
Nobody makes draft selections this way, its ridiculous to even suggest it

Totally agree. The premise is ridiculous
