This chaged the draft for me. Beside all his skills the guy is tough and a leader these are qualities we desperately beed
Bonn1997 @ 6/28/2015 6:06 AM
LOL. I thought this meant we were trading Grant for Kevin Love.
I do like the pick too though.
Markji @ 6/28/2015 11:08 AM
Grant was one of my favorite players this year. Watch his performance against Duke and OK4 this year. 23pts 12 assists

StarksEwing1 @ 6/28/2015 11:15 AM
I think its phils best move as a GM so far. Obviously we are hoping porzingis devleops and reaches his ceiling but right now the grant trade is his best move after some questionable trades last year
TPercy @ 6/28/2015 11:25 AM
Best part is that he can contribute to the team in many ways. If his shot his off, he is creating for his other teammates, playing lock down defense or he is getting to the line.

My favorite comment about Grant so far comes from Lupic:

For all of the detached weirdness we have seen from Phil since he also took Dolan’s money and this job, he did right by the Knicks Thursday night with Porzingis and with Jerian Grant of Notre Dame, a big guard whose real position seems to be basketball player.

Phil was a player when there were no specialized "point" guards or "shooting" guards, and if you look at the two guards out of college he's brought to the team, Grant and Galloway- you get a good idea of the kind of player he's looking for, and why he unloaded a specialist SG like Hardaway.

The Triangle is not about limited players in terms of skills. The more players you add who have a high BB IQ and Multiple skills the better everything works. There are specific roles you need like a Low Post option but overall you want guys who can do a lot of things well.

Combo guards and forwards with good size, handles and passing ability are best. Jerian has the kind of game that should excel in this kind of system.

meloshouldgo @ 6/28/2015 1:43 PM
I think basketball player is really the right position for him. Combo guard just has negative connotations for me. If he and Galloway can hold up defensively we really do have a good young back court in place. But if Jose is still running the show then we have to call this guy JosB.

What a generous thing to say about Hardaway!

Unless by specialist you mean he can't play defense, occasionally shoots well and doesn't do much else while on the court.

Great move to roll the dice again, getting rid of Hardaway before no one would give up a first rounder for him

Hardaway may yet develop - and going to a better team like Atlanta sure will help.

definetly phils first really good move as a GM. Grant is the type of guard we need and he plays defense which is rare for knicks guards

Great move...this kid might turn out better than porzingis

Porzingis may turn out to be better than Durant. Nobody knows.

hopefully that happens. If he is anywhere near dirk or durant then the knicks are in great shape

Hardaway had a real good game down in ATL in one of our last games of the season -- I wonder if he doesn't play well there, if ATL still does that deal.

of note...coach bud just became president/coach bud.

This is the kind of guard we needed. I still can't believe Phil pulled this off. We could have a ballin Summer League team.
