I have no problem with Green or Lopez. Both are the right age (28 and 27 respectively) and bring needed skills. Both can defend their position.
West brings toughness and veteran leadership. Look at what a difference that made the year we had Kidd and Rasheed. We have to acknowledge that Carmelo cannot and will not ever be that voice in the locker room and we need to supplement that with different guys.

We'd wind up with a roster looking something like this (include the best player from Summer League and figure we'll play Melo at 4 with 3 guards a good amount):
PG: Calderon (34), Galloway (23), Grant (23)
SG: Green (28), Shved (26)
SF: Melo (31), Early (24)
PF: West (35), KP (20)
C: Lopez (27), Smith (29)

I understand the appeal of West - it helps to have an adult in the locker room. Melo is such a narrow-minded crybaby that we need older guys who can control the locker room and steer the collective focus of the team.
I thought you meant Brook Lopez at first and my eyes bugged out of my head.
After reading the article. I'm sold on the premise of using all $25 mill to add a solid center, pf and sg. Prefer short term 2-3 year contracts if possible. Or just getting a big and a defensive wing for $16million and keeping our cap for the next year.
I have been saying most of the year I think Lopez could be had on a discount if his brother stays with the Nets. If Koufos could be had for less I think I would take him though.
Koufos/Lopez and to me goes well with Tobias
Ajinca and Danny/Carroll goes well with Monroe
The only person Jordan goes well with is West

This almost brought a tear to my eye. One sad tear for even wanting to bring Smith back but a happy tear for not wanting to use cap space on Shved or Smith. They might be learning.

Don't know what kind of leadership skills Green brings, but you do know the kind of team he would be coming over from.
We know the kind of guy West is.

If you see certain kinds of players being brought over my own belief is that this will signal a continuation of the power struggle that Phil initiated on draft night.
I love the Porzingis pick and I hope the Knicks themselves have strong faith in it. I really think one mistake they made was drafting the c from Spain over Powell. We need an athlete who can penetrate with physicality and bring the same on the d. That Lithuanian c looks better than the Spanish c from my point of view. Powell would've made a great deal of sense for this team on the 2 nd unit as a lock down perimeter defender and elite g finisher with a power body. That's the type of defender we needed.

Agreed. They should focus first on him. If we can give DeAndre a one and one deal - 2yr contract at the max with an opt out after one, next season in 2016 we can max him at the higher cap rate with bird rights raises. You sell him on being an all-star center in the East in the big media market of NY and an easier path to the Finals.
I still think it's a stretch that he'd come here, but it's at least worth pitching him.
I think Knicks should pitch DeAndre, LMA and Marc Gasol. Lot of people saying Marc Gasol goes to the Spurs and others saying LMA goes to the Spurs. They can't both go there. In fact, I'm having a hard time seeing how the Spurs get Gasol or LMA and manage to keep Duncan, Manu and Kawhi. Not to mention Danny Green. There is no way Spurs can sign Danny Green, basically.
I'm afraid there wouldn't be enough scoring. You would rely on west and green to be your 2nd or 3rd options. Monroe gives you a good 2nd option on offense. Carroll or Matthews gives you a potential 2nd option instead of monroe, but I consider monroe more a sure offensive option for increased responsibility.
Signing Danny Green to a 10MM deal is bad news. It's easy to shoot a high percentage when you're playing in a system designed by one of the greatest coaches ever. Duncan, Parker, Manu get you a lot of open looks.
Look how good JR Smith looked with Irving and Lebron and Love were all out of on the floor. It's a very different situation. It's like being a third receiver for Payton Manning and then suddenly being over paid based on production you will never duplicate. These three guys are a short term fix they aren't making you a contender so why give 10MM plus to marginal role players. It's the NY Mets model, pay a fringe guy big money. I would rather give Matthews 2MM more a year

Something like lee looney and #1s in 2018and 2020. Lee is younger than west and can do just as much in the triangle

The only player i would of took over Hernangomez would of been Christmas who was drafted right after him but we needed size so i'm happy with the big man.
