Durant is a perfect player in any system but especially for the system Phil Jackson wants to run. It's obvious by the coaches we hired, we are all in on Durant for next season. If we can build a team this season that makes it to the 2nd round(which I believe can be done in the East), it would be a success. Durant can come in next season and put us in position to make a run at a championship.
Melo/Aldridge/Durant on the front line would be dominant.
Or maybe trade Melo for Jimmy Butler & Taj Gibson. This is the scenario I really like bc of the defense.
If Durant goes anywhere, I think it'll be Washington
Briggs said his injury doesn't look good along with Embid, and it seems like it is falling true for Embid
Big Z took a lot of years and surgeries to get back on the court and was very much limited before he was able to play consistently
Durant and Embid, as well, not sure how much truth there is to it, but he says a lot of things, doesn't mean this can not be true though, if Durant rushed it back or if the injury is just very hard to heal properly...
If he gets injured/surgery ONE MORE TIME, it would be a HUGE red flag, and would prefer to go another direction despite the appeal, possibly Westbrook 2years later...

Love your idea but your trade scenario/projected lineup is fantasyland stuff. Melo for Butler and Gibson? Only in my Knick dreams.
But trading Melo next year for a piece and a pick, and shooting for Durant with a solid and growing young roster is not a bad plan.
Of course the injury factor for Durant could render it all moot and undesirable.

knicks are not getting Jimmy Butler ... now you want them to get taj and jimmy for freakin melo?
We could get Jimmy Butler if he signs a Chandler Parsons like deal, forcing Bulls to trade him in year 2, and we may have a chance to sign him or Westbrook
The deal Parsons signed has an OPT OUT after year 2 and is a 3year MAX, that also owns a 1st year right and final say in a trade
Though eventually Butler could change his mind, especially if Derrick Rose isn't brought back and it does becomes Jimmy Butler's team, which was why he wanted to leave...
So after he OPTS OUT in year 2, Derrick Rose is also a UFA, and depending on how Tony Snell and Bobby Portis develop, along with Pau Gasol continues to play despite his age that also has an opt out next season, and what they will do with Noah/Derrick Rose could be interesting for a package deal..
