Maybe not, but it WAS the best strategy for rebuilding the Knicks. Starting to look like that was the plan all along. Next step: Melo will request a trade. We will get at least one 2016 first rounder, additional picks, some vet players. Hopefully, this is already in the works.

I expect that paying these amounts on a 4 year deal is taking into consideration the cap hikes which are looming in the future. Averaged about 13.8/7.8/2.5 in the Cleveland series, and during the year, on a team with no rebounders, he could not crack 8RPG.
He and Carroll are nice players, but not at the amounts they got, IMO.
If we end up deciding to not overpay for players then i'd have no problem at all with just signing some lower level guys to one year contracts and going at it again next summer with a ton of money or trade Melo.

More than likely we arent going to be contending this season, Im fine with Phil not signing players in a desperate attempt to make a splash if the big names turn us down. Porzingis and Grant's development is the most important issue for next season.

Hedu signed there. They also signed Landry Fields away from us lol I think they're forced to overpay or go after Euro free agents because they're not considered a prime destination by many American players.

I wouldn't mind Afflalo if it's for 7/8 million but 12 million is too much for me. I think people are underestimating him though and i think he can definitely still help a team on both ends but again.....the price has to be right. If we could find a way to get both of them and Rolo i'd be very happy with that.

We just drafted a high first round pick for the first time in 30 years, we have a potential franchise player, and what looks to be a solid pick at PG. I don't believe Melo will be traded until next season at the earliest. All that cap room next season and whatever we could get for Melo would make us serious players in free agency IMO, with a better selection of FAs to go after.

I think Carroll actually benefitted a bit from the Atlanta system.
Milsap's numbers are not that different from what they've always been, and his numbers went down progressively as they move through the playoffs.

You're thinking in 2014 cap numbers. The good teams are thinking of the cap in 2017 and 2018 and realizing these contracts are complete bargains.

I dont believe that fielding a team with second tier FAs is going to make anyone stampede for the Knicks. Id rather wait and sign short term deals if players like LMA, Draymond Green, arent available. Want to see Porzingis and Grant develop more than anything next season.

may not look like much, but they won the division without a legit SF last season. Carroll will improve their D and give them another shooter.
sort of surprised he went there, but Toronto realized they had to overpay. I don't know if the Knicks realize that yet.
