They will end up with something but I doubt they are offering more than 2 years.
i agree i think phil will try his best to get a first rounder even by taking a contract

what were the Raptors selling Carroll on outside of $s?
C'mon! They have a really good team.
they do? I know they made the playoffs and all - and if they in the West they don't - but I don't see them as a rising team, do you?
Lowry, Derozen, Jonas Valanciunas and now Carroll.
That is an excellent young core. And of course, playing in the east is an easier path to the playoffs.
Toronto was ranked as one of the top offenses but not good defensively. Carroll is what they needed.
Dude just left a 60 win team whose whole lineup just about made the all-star team. They had a few more years of that on their plate if they played it right. Carroll left for the money.
He left because from what I read, Atlanta was not even in his top 4 (as far as offers). So of course he went for money, he should ... this is his payday.
However, at least he went to a contending team. He does not seem like a player who would just go for a money grab.
That is not a good young core, Lowry and Carroll aren't even young players.
He's a role player who jumped on a opportunity to make more money. Before 2015 it could've taken him two or three years to make what he earns in one year now.
@cf_gardner: Hearing Bucks pitch to free agent Greg Monroe impressed the 25-year-old center. Bucks selling coach Kidd, new owners, young talent.
@JADubin5: Bucks are the exact kind of crazy-athlete defensive monsters that could paper over Monroe's deficiencies. And they do need an offensive hub.
It Ain't My Money
@HowardBeck FWIW, I have 23 signings and 2 extensions for 1.496 billion total. I could be off too, though.
Or we can just trade Melo. Our pitch to a top FA should be that you as a star player get to be the man in New York. It behoove stud Knicks to continue to add players likes KP. The pitch should not be that you get to play with Melo and play second fiddle. Melo had it made if he didn't gut this team. But as we found out after the 2nd extension he is all about the money and securing a longterm max contract trumps all. We need to do it all over again except not settle for a dud like Amare.

You guys are insatiable.
He could have taken the minimum and it wouldn't change the fact that not a single coveted player is willing to sign with us right now.
With all this cap space, we can't even get Affalo and I'm reading that it's because our best player took 2 million more than Demare Carroll.
That's ridiculous to me.

I did not say $2mil
If Melo took less we would not be asking too free agent targets to take $1-2mil less in a year where new contracts are through the roof

my issue is that we have no first rounder next year. If we had our pick then i would have no problem waiting until next summer while getting another lottery pick. But now we almost are forced to try and overpay in order to keep the pick as low as possible
Yep thats the biggest problem, if we had our pick Id want no one and get another top 5 pick. Even if we didnt do the Bargs trade and just had to allow Denver to swap Id still be ok because they will be in the lottery as well

Im just hoping phil can find a way to acquire a first during the season. Hell he traded away hardaway for a first round pick(grant) so I have faith he can do it again

124 - 60 = 2?
Melo is taking up 22mil this year, and Carroll 20mil on the Raptors?
And we got Affalo for dirt cheap. That's nice.

Carrol signed a 4 year deal for 60 mil. It likely starts at around 14 mil.
There's another thread about Afflalo. So I'll leave that alone here.

Can't believe there's not a thread on this.
This Isn't the Academy Awards"The Knicks did a great job, they didn't have to make a pitch.... It was about who was on the roster" - David Falk. Agent for Greg Monroe

Melo? I was just thinking. Maybe Monroe just didn't want to play with Melo. Maybe no one wants to play with Melo. Same way no one wants to play with Kobe.
It's not rocket science if you really think about.
Maybe Melo's camp is putting it out that that Phil offered less to not tarnish Melo's reputation. This must be impossible for Melo to stomach

and possibly the most optimistic as well ... did you see how giddy guns was this morning?
jekyll and Hyde
It could just be as simple as the Bucks being ahead of the Knicks in terms of their roster development. Knicks are just now starting to rebuild the roster. It's not really about Melo but the roster as a whole. FA's can get their money and a winning roster. We have to move on and find someone who wants to be here.
