Knicks · Ultimately The Knicks Can Only Offer Cap Space and Melo (page 3)

It could just be as simple as the Bucks being ahead of the Knicks in terms of their roster development. Knicks are just now starting to rebuild the roster. It's not really about Melo but the roster as a whole. FA's can get their money and a winning roster. We have to move on and find someone who wants to be here.

"The Knicks did a great job, they didn't have to make a pitch.... It was about who was on the roster" - David Falk. Agent for Greg Monroe

Melo? I was just thinking. Maybe Monroe just didn't want to play with Melo. Maybe no one wants to play with Melo. Same way no one wants to play with Kobe.

It's not rocket science if you really think about.

Maybe Melo's camp is putting it out that that Phil offered less to not tarnish Melo's reputation. This must be impossible for Melo to stomach

you are the most paranoid, pessimistic person I know

I try not to be. The Knicks do this to me

This but I do not see the fit with the Bucks

Begley, Hahn and Wojo all reporting that Monroe wasn't offered the max from the Knicks.

Herring too.

Wish guys would stop believing the agent and Marc Berman.

I agree it's not totally about the money, but Monroe met with the Knicks first. They were clearly his original favorite. If the Knicks wanted him and didn't offer the max - they blew it.

I'm not a huge Monroe fan, so it doesn't kill me.

But this is pretty obviously a case of the Knicks messing up. They had their target and blew it. Chris Herring of the Wall St Journal doesn't have an agenda to make the Knicks look bad. Neither does Wojo. Neither does Alan Hahn - heck, Hahn works for MSG, it's in his best interest to carry the party line that the Knicks offered the max and Monroe just chose Milwaukee. But Hahn is not saying that, he is saying they asked Monroe to take less to help build a team.

Just because Monroe met with the Knicks first only means it was easier to get a flight to DC before Monroe left town.

nobody of any note is going to come to new york to play with carmelo anthiny. jackson already knew this which is why he drafted prozingis, who is a player acquired for life after melo.

message sent, message received.

it's clear that the best course of events would be for melo to demand a trade and waive the trade kicker. he'll make a heckuva good sixth man in the twilight of his career for a top 6 team.

Occasionally, we forget that professional players are a fraternity. They socialize and share information and observations on franchises - and one another. As we deal with the idea of "culture change" one of the harsh realities is that franchise stability, continuity and balance are essential elements to consider.

Stability - how long will Uncle Phil stay and of Steve Mills takes the reins what does that mean?

Continuity - how many regime changes, and roster turnover, has there been?

Balance - if Melo has the unquestioned support of Dolan, how many elite players want to be his support crew?

Just some soul food for thought.
