We can't sign a single player
Nobody wants to come to New York
What do we even sell them on?
What is the point of even meeting with LaMarcus? WTH are we going to say to him???!?!?
Hello Mr. Aldridge why don't you come to NY instead of going back home to Texas and playing for perennial championship contenders. I know we don't have kwahi, green, duncan, ginobili, parker but we do have grant, galloway, carmelo and porzingis! What's the point of going to play for a coach that already has such a great name and winning history in Popovich when you can come and help build a name for 2nd year Fisher who doesn't know what to do half the time? You would be silly to live in Texas and take home more after taxes rather than coming to NY and being eaten up by the higher cost of living!
We have absolutely nothing going for us
Our "star" player has a messed up rotator cuff and is coming off of knee surgery
We have no second scorer
We're not even up to the standards of JJ Barea - he won't even consider us.
We don't even have a draft pick next year
What now... what the hell do we do now?!!??!?
most of its Melo.
the stink of losing doesn't help.
but who the hell would wanna play with this chucker?
maybe rondo, bc of assists. but anyone still relevant has no interest.
I would stay calm. Players today want easy ask yourself you want players that want it easy. They are admitting that they aren't good enough to be the man essentially that is what it is joining the Knicks. It's not a ready made situation. You want players that want to come hereabout make it a ready made situation.

Yes your right. You should definitely go root for the Nets! Did you really expect to get any of the recently signed players? Most will use other teams to get max deals from current teams and others will get over paid from sucker GMs. Glad we are not the suckers. Trust the time it takes to truly rebuild. Knee jerk signings is what got us into trouble. The only guy worth paying for and truly available is Aldridge but he wants to win now so don't think he is coming. Unless Phil pulls one out of his triangle arse.

Yeah but 16 months into Phil's contract the best veteran he's added might be Jose Calderon. That's scary.

First day that he has had money to spend since he has been in the position. Time for him to cash in his chips on the first day of free agency?
Bad trades. No assets. A project 1st round pick. No top free agents showing any interest in signing with New York. I mean. How do you argue with the premise of this thread?

come on now. these guys want to go to a winning situation.

Wait Phil is meeting with top Free Agents!!! Not all FA's were going to be a fit here. Not all FA's wanted to come. It really isn't like we can just tell players they have to sign here. Some players are staying with their teams and getting PAID. Right now the Knicks are still in the mix for some guys and then there are other options after the top guys are all gone.
There are players that can really play left...plenty

Almost every player went back to their own team. Carroll left a 60 win team. Aldridge probably goes where he knows he will win but he is the only guy I can think of that is going to a better situation then the one he left.

This is the problem and the solution.
Shitty team like Knicks can only get better from within.
That's why it will take a while.
Even Dolan get it and insisted on Melo to be around for the time of rebuild to guaranty tickets sales for MSG... and suffer for the money he get paid.
More money - more suffering.
And Phil knows surely well this team will not be any good before his contract in NY will expire.
He wants to get GM experience for Dolan money and a lot of fun...
He likes this all NYC balls bouncing.
We know Drama!!!

So far we only lost out on one player who was ever going to leave the team they were with. Carroll being the one exception. And that's a real shame.
I wouldn't be upset if Monroe did his thing elsewhere at all. Phil said he might not use up all the cap space anyway and that he wasn't necessarily trying to sign the most expensive players. So far he's kept his word. The players he has reached out to are team players all of whom could play exciting roles here.
The Knicks are also in great shape to pick up trades from teams looking to shed salary.
And there are lots of very good FAs still to speak with. This is intelligent management (something NYers aren't used to).

Stop and take your meds. NY will be dramatically better next year. This constant drone of negativity just gives people a headache and its just short of compulsive obsessive hate speech. Phil is smarter and better than anyone we've had running the ship in 20 years.
We are going to surprise a lot of pundits in a good way.
We can always give Amare another 100mil contract.
If we can't get the top tier players then asset collect with the cap space.

But there is no drama to be had this year. We'd have to have a run of the table to compete at a high level. This year we we hold our fire until the time is right. Lots of teams are digging their own graves by signing highly speculative talent at high prices - happens every year. I'm glad Phil got the Knicks out of that business.
David West is another guy I'm glad is going elsewhere. I feel good about who we aren't signing.
