Knicks · Here is the potential of Kanter in the triangle (page 1)

In these two games he had 9 assists and 31 rebounds. It shows he will be a passer of the ball in the right system. It shows dominating rebounding low post skills mid range shooting outside shooting. And he does it at a very efficient %. With the right C a shot blocking rim protecting C Kanter could be a STEAL in free agency.

One thing to consider is, do you tie up money if OKC is going to match your offer. Weren't they going to meet with Kanter to work out a new deal?
WOODMANnYk @ 7/2/2015 11:53 AM
If you sign kanter, believe me OK will match it. ThAts the issue dealing with restricted free agents..
franco12 @ 7/2/2015 11:56 AM
I like him better than Monroe - younger, probably more skilled, higher bb iq.

I'd love to have a smart team - I think GS was smart- SAS is a smart team - MDA's teams in Phoenix were smart. Dallas.

Skills, smarts, passing - I think that is what Phil is trying to build.

If the Knicks call OKC bluff with a strong 3 year offer--throw in a trade kicker a no trade clause etc... and the same money they were going to give Monroe--they certainly have a good chance. Its one avenue--but he can give the Knicks a lot. The east is so weak in the post. Kanter will put up 22- 25 a night and grab 10-12 rebounds. I also think that he can work well with Porzingis in a 5-4 shuffle.

crzymdups @ 7/2/2015 11:59 AM
I like Kanter more than Monroe, too.

I happen to think OKC will match, so it'd a question of do you want to tie up your cap room for the next ten days (the three day clock doesn't start til after the moratorium ends on July 9 or whatever)

I think chasing Kanter or Harris might be the Knicks best bet to get good talent at this stage though.

If the cap money gets tied up and the other team matches, we can pursue some of those cap room dump trades for teams near the luxury tax.

The downside of doing this is we'd lose out on Robin Lopez, but he may not come here anyway.

i absolutely hate Kanters defense but his offensive skills are better than monroe. he could average 21-12 in the east. but he cant guard a parked car
callmened @ 7/2/2015 12:11 PM
several reports are saying that knicks are targeting Lopez and not even trying for kanter
GoNyGoNyGo @ 7/2/2015 12:14 PM
Lopez, Harris and Afflalo is not a bad FA period. Especially if they are all similar deals to AA's.
Knicksfan @ 7/2/2015 12:15 PM
is his defense THAT atrocious?

yes! read this. lol:

"Enes Kanter, Oklahoma City. I don’t know what the Thunder thought it was getting when it traded for Kanter in February, but… what… a… defensive… disaster. Kanter can score, no doubt, and he looks like a big man who should be able to play the pick-and-roll. But he can’t. He truly cannot. He either doesn’t know how or doesn’t want to or just has a supreme talent for doing exactly the wrong thing whenever his man comes over to screen a guard. Kanter’s so bad that opponents basically just call pick-and-rolls when he’s in the game, and if you can’t guard the pick-and-roll, you are doomed.

Among centers who get regular time in this league, there are several really porous defenders–and Kanter is by far the worst. He’s awful. I don’t think there’s any way he turns into even a half-way mediocre defender at any point in his career, it’s just too far gone. OKC’s on/off defensive splits: With Kanter on the floor, the Thunder gave up 113.0 points per 100 poss’s. With him off (in the games he was on the team), they gave up only 105.1 per 100. Utah’s on/off D splits with Kanter this season: 112.1 per 100 when Kanter was on the floor, 103.5 per 100 when he was off (in the games he was on the team). That’s two teams, one in Utah and one in Oklahoma, with almost identical large improvements precisely when Kanter was NOT in the game vs. when he was.

One more stat: Kanter registered a -3.88 DRPM this season, which ranked him 469th out of 474 total players.

Oh, and that mean point I made about Griffin only collecting 35 blocks in 67 games? Kanter only had 29 in 75 games split between Utah and OKC. And he’s 6-11."

BRIGGS @ 7/2/2015 12:21 PM
How many games will the Knicks win without a low block scorer? GS can do it because they have the best player in the game at PG.

This is one avenue. David Lee is an avenue the D league is an avenue going to SL and seeing whats available but Kanter is the only proven NBA player with youth.

NYKBocker @ 7/2/2015 12:23 PM
I really like Kanter as well. I am not too worried about the defensive liabilities. He is a clogger. He can't be any worse than Bargs or Jason Smith.
