Knicks · I'm sorry - Phil has been an outright disaster (page 4)

As for prozingis i like him but he is still an unkonwnAs for Phil... eh... I like the draft a ton. Everything else bleh at best. My biggest defense is I dont see any great opportunities he's missed, except maybe to trade Shump earlier, etc... but thats arm chair QBing.
Shump at $10mm? Yuck
Carroll at $15mm? Eh.. nice player but thats a pretty big overpay
Monroe at max? I liked this, but it certainly wasnt without its holes either. Would there be a big drop in level of play with David Lee vs. Greg Monroe? This was a miss for us but nothing brutal. He could go either way. Good guy though...I mean its not over yet... lets see the roster. I love the Affie contract, thats a bonafide asset come trade deadline if he playing well. Nice easy contract, plays D, good size... If THjr is getting a #1 and Shump is getting $10mm than Affie is an asset.
The rest wait and see. Im more optimistice with threads like this. People were tilting about the draft for weeks (BRIGGS) and that was a gem IMO. Im just wait and see atw this point
KP is a high upside pick who actually has NBA skills and Elite Size. According to just about all scouts say he could be one of the Best in this draft. Mostly he just needs more strength but skills wise he's ready.
Jerian they say is ready and also a top guard in this draft. Willy they say could be a solid player and was rated at 32 in this draft. We still have a bunch of other young players Phil has brought in who have good talent. All in all Phil has been pretty good with his young talent.

I'm not sure that is out of line with how pro sports work in general for teams sadly riding the bottom of the standings and offer little organizational stability.I'll say what I've said since Jackson was hired, I believe he was the "better choice" meaning he was and is better than the previous regimes ( but was that hard to do?) but he was not the "right choice"
He had nothing nice to say about the Knicks roster when rumors were about him coaching again, so it's not like he didn't understand the kind of mess he was walking into.
I would judge Phil Jackson more on the Knicks inability to draw in UDFAs, the best of that crop, than to punish him for Tier 1, 2 and 3 free agents the Knicks really had no shot with at all.
I'll say it again and again, sorry to Steve Mills, but the Knicks desperately need a young gun from another team's front office to properly groom into a long term GM for this team. A few holdovers from previous regimes that Dolan is comfortable with just doesn't cut it.
Well see about the UDFA's. You can swipe any player from any team --you dont necessarily need them to be on your team. What we cant afford is to have guys like Admundson and Thomas take up spots--because where we are those are asset seats.

I agree with this 100%. Hire one of the young guys from San Antonio or Toronto or Houston or Atlanta to be Phil's understudy.
Knicks need to focus on acquiring talent through the draft for a while. If they focus on the draft, they can have a very good team in like five-six years and it'll be fun to watch in the meantime.
But knowing the Knicks, it is more likely Phil steps down and Isiah comes back sometime in the next few years.

Pardon me for interrupting but Phil has been focused on the draft so far. He's also added UDFA's.

I don't think it's gonna take 5 or 6 years for these young players to start showing some promise.
No one can make good team out of this crappy mess in one year or in 3 years.
Phil already did more that I expected. Good job.
But much more work and time is still needed.
StarksEwing1 wrote:crzymdups wrote:yeah im rooting like hell for pozingis. He is a talented and very cool kid. However as big as his upside is the risk is just as bigTPercy wrote:Allow me to enlighten you with some positivity.
Tyson Chandler-He was probably going to leave anyway, but hey! we got Thanasis and Early ...
Iman Shumpert- We got a 2nd rounder for him, better than nothing. He was never going to be successful here and I highly doubt he would have resigned.
Drafted a player who is "several years away" Come on now, yes he can get stronger but he is very quick for his size, a great shooter, a good weak side defender, underrated in the post as well. He could very well be an ungaurdable player, but for now he needs to add some strength.
The rest of the league dosen't mock the triangle, in fact successful teams like the Spurs and GSW run really modfied versions of the triangle.I got nothing for Monroe
Carroll? Do you really want to sign him to that ridiculous contract?
Players won't meet with us?How do you know?Porzingis can be the saving grace. That's really our only hope here. At all.
I will root like heck for him to succeed.
But given Phil's other calls, I am skeptical.
Tyson was my favorite Knicks player in a long time. I would have rather told Melo to take a hike and retooled around Tyson. He's highly respected around the league. LMA may go to PHX just to play with him.
newyorknewyork wrote:Imagine if Phil let Melo walk for nothing all the amazing free agents we could have signed. Oh wait

YEAH HE'S COOL, But in his eyes phil hasn't done one thing wrong, he's drafted all stars in the makings, made block buster trades.
When you start saying things like "HOW WAS PHIL SUPPOSE TO KNOW" You takeaway every ounce of account ability.
It's calderon fault he sucks
It's jr's fault he opted out
It's shumps fault he just got 40 mill (im not sure what 2nd round pick in the end of the draft will get 40 million)
Im sure Jr's goig to get similar $, but he's only worth a 2nd rnd pick 12 wks ago
It's not phils fault nobody with good sense will play for a clueless coach.
paul gasol didn't even send a no thank you text last season.
Phil will retire after the season due to family time or health reason, and think that he set the franchise on the right path by drafting KP and grant.
