Knicks · Quotes from King Fans about DWill. (page 1)

TPercy @ 7/4/2015 12:33 AM
"Better. Has found a bit of a niche as a pure open court scorer. Tremendous athlete. Might be getting his 3pt game back a little. But oh my is he soft. Soft and pretty and just about the dunks really. No defense at either position. Not enough quickness at SF, not enough toughness at PF. The rebounding is actually remarkable -- went on a late season streak for us where he grabbed 18 total rebounds over an 11 game stretch while playing 20+ min a night? Just wants no part of the physical work.

Flamboyant flyer, just real questions if he's about winning. As long as you run you'll get your money's worth of highlights though. "

"Just don't expect defense. You can expect him to hit the highlight reels on a regular basis, however. "

"He has a cool hairstyle..... "

TPercy @ 7/4/2015 12:35 AM
No defense..
Piss poor rebounder..
Softie...
Decent scorer..

"DWill could break your heart or give you goosebumps. He was unfortunately compared to a Coke Machine with a statement by the coach - and it wasn't complimentary. "

"Thank you for taking Derrick. That is all. "

His efficiency is low and his rebound numbers are pitiful. He's not a good 3 point shooter. Maybe he can still be deceloped?

Yeah, I'd rather take my chances with Cleanthony. We're still talking upside with this Williams bum. I could be optimistic if Williams showed he had one useful NBA skill, but he's shown nothing. Bargs would've been better than this.
CrushAlot @ 7/4/2015 12:59 AM
Very gifted but very disappointing so far. His numbers for his last 7 games were pretty good.
TheGame @ 7/4/2015 3:35 AM
We would have been better off going after Jordan hill
gunsnewing @ 7/4/2015 3:46 AM
Tim Thomas with the potential to be a better rebounder/defender with his measurements
smackeddog @ 7/4/2015 4:24 AM
Sounds great.
gunsnewing @ 7/4/2015 4:48 AM
Isiah would've loved this guy. I'm optimistic he will flourish here though. Rather gamble on upside than sign a a solid defensive PF. We get sign one of those with the remaining $2.8mil. Maybe even vet min. However, you are not going to sign a potential 16 & 8 guy for only $5mil. Who is going to give us easy baskets inside? Brandon Bass? You guys really suck at the GM thing and figuring out how to build a team. I'm excited to see DW bring the thunder in the paint like Amare did in year one
Ira @ 7/4/2015 5:18 AM
I hate soft players. If he's not willing to crash the boards and play defense, I don't want him. It's not about talent. He just doesn't want to do it.

Basically Melo on defense without the ability to rebound, thats not good. We still need another forward who can defend

callmened @ 7/4/2015 7:35 AM
this kid is garbage. lol. i dont mind taking a flyer on him but not for 5 mill. hes vet minimum talent. the only thing he does well is dunk

Last 20. After being called out by his coach.

He's on the way back. Worst case, he's not. :-)

crzymdups @ 7/4/2015 8:23 AM
He's been in terrible situations with completely uncompetitive teams that had no direction and terrible management. Thankfully the Knicks will be a breath of fresh air!! But I do think in a better environment he might do better - and I do think the environment in Sacramento and Minnesota (a few years ago at least) might actually be worse than it is in New York
wargames @ 7/4/2015 8:34 AM
at 5 a year with a player option (so if he sucks he becomes an expiring) I'm ok with this deal. The knicks need to take a flyer and try to find talent on top of winning games. Derrick is the perfect example of a guy who hasn't been developed as a tweener. He has been bad so far, but on the low the knicks have a youth movement going on anyway. Lets see if this works

This sounds like the kind of comment that only a Knicks fan would make.

This is a focused and broke d.williams before selected as the #2 pick......He hasnt responded well to the fame or his situation. But once he matures and becomes grounded.....his potential is thru the roof. Just a reminder of his impact in the biggest college game of his life.....

BRIGGS @ 7/4/2015 8:51 AM
I think we paid too much but we know other teams might have been involved. After we get by the pay,met which none of us can dictate let's look at the player. He just turned 24 he was the best player in college basketball as a freshmen. While he hasn't lived up to those standards he did show signs of breaking out end of last year and still he was a consistent 15-6 per 36 min his whole career. He's a rare athlete who weighs close to 250 pounds yet still has near elite athleticism at 6-8. Let's give him a chance the way some team gave demarre Carroll a chance when he was all but done early in his career. Yes the money should've been commiserate with a t Robinson but let's be positive for the guy and give him a chance until such time he may not deserve it. Part of building a team involves risk and that is acceptable risk if you don't have the ca hones to take risk you never reap reward or a chance for reward
matt @ 7/4/2015 8:52 AM
I like this signing, but I would have definitely liked it more a few more weeks into free agency. Not sure if there was any serious demand elsewhere for this guy

Nah, every fan makes it! Hawks fans are saying it about Timmy. And they may be right.

I'm willing to give this kid a chance. It's a low risk high reward signing.

I would've liked spending less money but he was making $7m on his rookie deal since he went pick 2.
