I can't believe this guy opted out. There isn't a playoff contender with 6.4 million in cap space left, let alone a championship contender.
He may have to beg Labron for a couple of dollars, and i think Labron is brilliant for letting Cleveland do what they had to do to bring certain players, then saving him for last.
Mean while idiot JR opts out thinking there was a waiting list for his service, after his normal erratic shooting in the finals. Shumpert has gotta be chuckling in a corner somewhere..Money done son..lol

Agree with everything you said. I will be surprised if a team offers him half that. Are the Cavs really considering bringing JR back? Second option, fifth option, doesnt matter, cant be trusted.
I think his agent is a jack ass, even the BS he did with the knicks bringing in his (d league talent) brother as a package deal, pretty much breaking up the locker room, and probably playing a role in glen getting fired.
Now he advises him to opt out of a 6 and half million dollar contract on a team favorite to win it all, and becoming a FA next yr when 10 million per will be the norm. Thus boosting his value by starting the yr fresh with a more define role, on a team that will be on National TV every night...SMH
He's going to get David West Vet MIN money
I think that JR is dumb enough not to even really how dumb he is

Yup, and I thought that wasn't humanly possible.
Good riddance! I hate that f'in guy. Dumber than dumb
The Cavs seem to have infinite cap space, don't they want Joe Johnson now too?

They looked into getting him but I read somewhere that those talks have stopped for now.
I never thought JR would pass up that guaranteed money. He's crazier than I thought. Glad he's not our problem anymore. Dude is historically unreliable.
But I thought he was a championship piece who Phil was insane to get nothing back for?
Way dumber even than Latrell Sprewell

LBJ the GM has signed Varejao, his buddy, to a decent sized extension, but he's always hurt. I mean the guy makes David Wright look like the pinnacle of health.
Then he trades his only real wing help for Kevin Love, to give him a massive 100 million dollar plus contract.
Now he will do Tristan Thompson a favor, giving him about 80 million, because he shares the same agent as LBJ.
LBJ's best current position? Point Power Forward. Neither Thompson nor Love can actually play center. Next year Mozgov is going to have to get paid.
And so the Cavs have to rely on the inconsistent Shumpert for primary wing defense. And LBJ buddies Mike Miller and James Jones got gift contracts to ride the bench.
How do you have three first overall picks in four years, plus like 5 total first rounders in that span, and walk away with such a broken and expensive roster?
A load of power forward who are overpaid, can't really defend and are always hurt plus Shumpert and JR Smith. Wow, that doesn't sound like the Knicks at all...
LBJ is getting his balls licked in the press because Nike wants it so and has the leverage to get it. But he's basically built a Knicks like hell for himself.

I get what your saying, but every June, it seems to be the vets that win championships. Klay and Curry are young, but it was AI and Green that made it work.
Over 80% of the league will soon be over paid, as soon as some of stop concerning yourself with the cap, you'll realize you have to do what ever it takes to win in this league. that over played player may go on a little run that helps get over the hump. Iggy, triston and Dray Green, JR,shump are the type of players that may not be lights out every night, but stretch runs happen all the time, and thats what those guys give you

Yes, along with HOF Potential Shump and Timofey Russell Mosgov (although Moz is Melo's fault, not Phil's). And every other ex-knick who was doing great and wonderful things.

I can't believe we never got anything of value back for a player that no team in the nba is interested in signing- fire Phil!

Can't believe Smith was dumb enough to do this without some kind of promise made to him.
I understand that an agent gets a % from a new contract, but it is hard to believe that he would advise Smith to opt out of some good money without some kind of verbal agreement from one source or another.
You are totally right about what this year could have meant for him for his next contract...which is why I have doubts that his agent would advise him to opt out.
Smith hardly ended his season on a high note...a solid season during 2015/6 with a good playoff performance would have guaranteed him a decent contract next year at the inflated rates players will be getting.
Very strange...I don't think we have the full story, though.
So this would be the most he could get from the Cavs at this point...no?

Maybe the Cavs reverse-Boozered him.
Seriously, this is why I never understood the hate for this trade (as well as the Chandler trade, but that was a whole different set of circumstances). Smith is gonna sign somewhere that is either desperate (Hello, LAL) or somewhere for the minimum. I think JR expired his nine lives and is past the point of teams believing they can rehab/control him. Watch him end up on Sacramento with Karl, the Clippers (after after they trade Jamal), or some middling team where he will be the number 1 or 2 option (Bobcats owner, Michael Jordan on line 1 Mr. Smith).

LOL,lot of double talking here. Good move by Jax to cleanse ourselves of those two regardless of any return. I would not take Smith back if he paid us.

I would take his untalented brother before JR.
