WOW that would've been good to know ahead of Free Agency. The NBA really has to fix their off season timing. The Draft probably should take place AFTER Free Agency and they should tell the teams the cap numbers before FA begins. It seems to make no sense the way they're doing things now.

Well if the rumors are correct about what went on with us in the 3 team trade talks for D.Lee then i think Phil has made it clear that he plans on moving forward with Calderon on the roster next year. But like i said....that's if the rumors are true which we all know how often that happens. (not much)

This sucks the Knicks could have cut Calderon and got into the Joseph sweepstakes. I wonder if he would have take similar money to be a starter instead of a back up.

I would be on the phone with Lin but I guess if Jordan leaves that gives the Mavs money for him. They could actually split DJ money between Lin and Lopez but I doubt Lopez would leave his brother.

If we can get a guy on a one-year deal, great. Otherwise, I would want to focus on saving cap space for next summer. We are not going to be able to sign anyone for 3, 5, or 8 million that is going to turn this team into a contender. But with a year of improvement from Zing and Grant, and max cap space plus an extra 7-8 million for another key piece, we could really build a contender for 2016-17.

Agree. People are down on Calderon like they were down on Tyson C. Guy is a decent pg when healthy and perfect for the triangle and Lopez minimizes his D weakness. His monies are now not high given what is going on and I can see him being a reasonable trade chip at deadline. As far as additional cap, only good if used in a trade for a capable player that adds to our team going forward. Nothing on FA market. Shved should sign for the Room especially since Lin took just $4.3 total for 2yrs

According to Begley at ESPN, we've only offered Shved a vet minimum contract which he turned down and that came early on in FA. Supposedly 2 other teams have offered the same and Alexey rejected those as well. Come on, are you kidding me, Phil? How do you lowball the guy like that? This is no time to get cheap with a player who performed well here this past season. This man MUST be offered either the room amount or the remaining cap space we have left over now that the cap expanded to $70mm (slightly under $3mm per Begley). I'd probably put my best foot forward and offer the higher amount and tell him look, it's my best offer--I think he'd accept that. Or, at least offer him the $2.8mm room exception and maybe look to conserve the extra cap space toward next season's FA. Either/or but offer this man one of those ASAP, please!!

Good point on Lin btw--if he indeed signed for 2 yrs/$4.3mm, the room exception or the $3mm remaining in cap space is a more than a fair offer for Shved. I might also consider signing Shved for 2 yrs as well, maybe even 3...I give Phil credit--he's restocked the shelves somewhat and that may bode well in next year's FA. FAs need to see a plan in place and some flexibility. Shved needs to be a part of that plan.

Nix made a good point early in the thread as well--the NBA really needs to get their act together on how they do things. No doubt about it--FA needs to start before the draft and whatever increase there is to the cap, teams need to be made aware of it before the offseason even starts. It's crazy--what if we had lost Shved to another team, only to now find out we have more flexibility all of a sudden?

Wow, I think Phil gain some of my respect for offering Shved a vet min deal. That's his worth right now because he has not shown that he is a nba quality player. 16 games does not make a career.

He's worth a bit more than a vet minimum contract--I'm not saying he's a $20mm player but the man performed well here last year--either the room exception or the remaining cap space (slightly < $3mm) is a fair offer. Our backcourt as a whole would feel much more complete with this guy back in the fold. How would you complete the backcourt then? We're still at least a player short at both positions. Shved adds quality depth at both spots, point and 2G. He's worth either amount of money imo.

Phil should stop dicking around and offer Shved and Cole parts of the 3 million and 2.8 room exception we still have.
