Knicks · Why don't we make an offer to K.J. McDaniels? (page 1)

I know we haven't made any offers to RFA's, but at this point, what do we have to lose. We have 3M to ffer and McDaniels fills a position of need.

Though we can offer him as much as 3m a year but unless it is a multiyear deal, Houston will likely match, as it ties up our cap space

I like KJ McDaniels, however, we may look to see what we have our Summer League roster first, with Ledo/Thanasis and Early playing the same position

I was surprised that we didn't try to acquire UFA's for the vet min instead like
Vet mins for younger players are solid moves, Jeremy Evans signed a 2year vet min deal to Dallas, and these players were all available
Especially if they would sign 2year vet min deals with the cap going up next year it would be bargains with these players

Wesley Johnson 1year vet min deal to Clippers after 2 vet mins on The Lakers
Gereld Green 1year vet min to The Heat

Jeremy Evans 2year vet min deal, like Gereld Green both were once slam dunk champions and are still great athletes, before DeMaRRe Carroll signed with Atlanta, he barely played on Utah and went over to Atlanta with Millsap, with his great length/athleticism, he would be a bit of a project but low risk/high reward

Joel Freeland *going back to Europe* and Serephin *still available*

Along with Justin Holiday, I am not sure if GS gave him the qualifing offer, I thought they did, but apparently he is signing with Atlanta
Holiday played very well with GS last season as a rookie, and was a 6th man for a good period of time early, showing his improved 3pt shooting, extremely versatile, athletic, with great length, athleticism, and knowing how to use it on DEFENSE to defend SG and SF, but also PG and PF on switches

Especially coming from a WINNING franchise that runs sets/philosophies with The Triangle with Kerr
He is young and has good upside/physical abilities

Can he shoot from the outside? Looks like a shorter and lighter version of Derrick Williams though he's supposedly a much better defender. Kid is obviously athletic and may develop his game further but we made our bed with DW and also have a similar athlete in Antetokounmpo. If this kid can hit threes it would be a different story but he seems redundant

Wait a second. I thought the whole reason Philly shipped him to HOU was because he was a unrestricted free agent. There was a whole hullabaloo about McDaniels refusing a contract in Philly which meant he would be a UFA after the season instead of an RFA because he wanted to take a risk and test the market after his first season. Maybe Im wrong, or misremembering.

He is a terrible shooter, thats his biggest flaw.

Cleanthony Early and Thanasis aren't exactly going to win any shooting awards. McDaniels is statistically better (not saying much there), and a freak athlete who defends and plays with intensity on both ends of the court. He is also only 22

I think we all agree, however, Houston will likely match any offer unless it is 4-5m on a multiyear deal, he is RFA with 1year experience and didn't get to play since he was traded
So I guess teams do not want to offer him a contract until he is a UFA

KJ Mcdaniels didn't want to be a trading chip by Philly like they do with majority of their roster

Hey, I agree, Im a KJ McDaniels fan. Ive said it a million times any SG who blocks people with such ferocity will always capture my heart. Id love to make him an offer but Im just not sure its worth it now that I know HOU can match. That really stinks, I thought he was a UFA.

I wish we did...we are not an athletic team at all especially on the Wings

KP, Jerian, Early, Gallo, DWill, Thanasis are all pretty athletic. Not that we can't add to that bunch but there is some athletic ability on this roster. I like KJ and would have no problem with him joining the team. I think he's still an option for Phil.

Ledo is a better prospect in terms of shooting, and Ledo is cheaper to keep.

this guys offensive numbers are so so brutal. He really can't shoot at all.
