Knicks · Live from Vegas!! (page 1)

Sorry folks...I'm just getting back to the hotel. saw 4 games today. lol. heaven for a bball junkie like myself

I heard i was on TV today. I was the guy in the melo jersey sitting next to the big guy wearing the #33 jersey. afterwards, NBATV interviewed me and asked me waht i thought of KP. I hope they aired it. lol

anyways, you all saw the game, so im sure you have made your OWN observations (and ill read them once i settle down). so i guess i'll just add what i saw in the arena

1. K. Porzingus is an ATHLETE...Capital A.T.H.L.E.T.E!!! I got there 1 hr before the game. I got a chance to watch them warm up and shoot. Dude can JUMP! he's extremely agile and smooth. He moves like a 6-6 wing until he stands next to someone and you realize that hes by far over 7 ft. (7-2?). he dribbles, he shoots, he dunks, very very agile. to be honest i've NEVER seen any human being like this. He's by far superior to prime-Dirk athletically. I can def see the KDurant comparisons now but he's SNEAKY tough. he WANTS to post up and mix it up.

2. Grant is a leader. PERIOD. He leads the huddle. tells guys where to go on offense and defense (unlike galloway who is a bit shy). He looks to PASS first and second. he had a couple open looks that he passed up. he's extremely VOCAL

3. Cle Early was just shooting way too much. I'm sure you saw that. Looked like he got hurt but we could hear the huddle. he just said "its my funny bone". by the way, he has no idea what he is doing in the triangle. grant was telling him where to go. smh

4. Spoke with Ricky Ledo before the game. mad cool dude (who has probably been humbled by his lack of success so far). He simply said thanks for coming out but he needs to hydrate. im happy he played well. dude is a slasher

5. Coaches = D. fisher is not audible...even in the huddle. you can hear players saying "HUH?!?". By the way, im not sure if any of you brought this up but give fish credit for changing up the triangle. to the naked eye, it looked like they WEREN'T RUNNING it...but in fact they were. they were using grant to DRIBBLE into the triangle. the guards would criss cross at the top (instead of the "moment of truth" pass)

6. Others: for someone making $12mill, phil knows how to dress down. lol. D.williams and OQuinn were in the crowd. My rule is i dont ask for autographs or sweat someone younger than myself. I gave them handshakes and said welcome to NY. OQuinn responded that he's from queens so no need for a welcome. lol. One brotha i was happy to see was Allan Houston. I shook his hand and thanked him for "teaching me how to shoot" when he was balling and i was in HS.

7. Misc - the NBA is one big fraternity. all these players know each other from AAU or something way back. and their parents knows each other too. SO after the game, the knicks would sit in the stands - with their parents. and its just one big social network. its like a high school feel. also in vegas, a lot of the "Stars" are there to support the rookies. so they sit in the stands to watch. the NBA probably tells them to do so and sign autographs. but a lot of these guys were very accessible. gave dame lilliard a bro hug and he told me where the club was poppin tonight.

- any questions or comments, let me know. Again, i tried to stay away from basketball because im sure you all saw the game. The things that stood out to me were KP, Grant and how accessible the players/coaches/media were. like i was on line to buy some food. i was standing next to kiki vanderweigh. lol. i was sitting next to this old man and he hand trouble going up the stairs. so i kinda assisted him. he told me "dont worry i have bad arthritis". turns out that was Gar Forman - GM for the bulls.

- This Las Vegas summer league is for basketball fanatics like myself. you get to meet other fanatics of the knicks and other teams. I wouldn;t do this EVERY year but i def recommend to try it at least once. lol

since im not sure how to post videos or pics here...you can follow me on twiiter (6ft3drmd @NOkarter)

Cool. Thanks for the post I enjoyed it.
nixluva @ 7/12/2015 12:49 AM
Great work. Thanks for the inside info. Sounds like a ton of fun. I think KP and Jerian are going to be really fun to watch develop. You can see the talent dripping off those guys. I was actually happy that Early was aggressive offensively. Now he needs to get it together on D but still good to see him much more confident with the ball. I was also happy with Ledo. He was a bit wild at times but we're gonna need him this year IMO.
WaltLongmire @ 7/12/2015 1:03 AM
Good stuff.

The NBA Summer League is a unique animal to me- nothing like it in pro sports.

Kind of like an extended, and much more thorough, team workout that GMs/coaches/etc. can use to scout players, since only the draftees and younger signed vets have guaranteed (for the most part) roster spots awaiting them.

Can also be embarrassing and humbling for some players I would suppose.

Seems to be a pretty relaxed atmosphere, and the older veterans have a chance to be entertained watching their future teammates and opponents go at it.

I was someone who believed they were not playing the Triangle much this game...interesting to see that they changed it around a bit.

Did you see any players who did not play for us today, or who did not look great in the actual game, who caught your eye?

How did the other 7ft Euro look before the game?

Dagger @ 7/12/2015 1:30 AM
I agree with your assessment on Early, he may have scored 18 points but he didn't look particularly comfortable or refined, seems like he's still a little lost. After 5 years playing basketball at a high level I'd really like to see him play with more savvy and control.
CrushAlot @ 7/12/2015 1:34 AM
Wow. Awesome observations. Thanks for sharing what you saw. It seems like the crowd in Vegas is bigger than in past years. Looking forward to more updates. Enjoy.

a couple stand outs from other teams (excluding the high draft picks)

- J. Eddie - was hitting EVERYTHING in shoot around. half court range
- T. Black - plays hard for the lakers. out muscled Towns
- anthony brown (SF) on the lakers - sweet shooting stroke and plays D
- Lorenzen brown (minn) - look decent at PG. looked in control

Draft picks on other teams
- Dougie McDermott still doesnt look comfy
- B. Portis was the best player i saw all day. Yes he can shoot but his intensity was palpable
- Towns was often intimidated in the post. played soft.
- D. Russell CANT go right. lol.
- Upshaw is out of shape and knows nothing about offense. but he play D
- Z. Lavine has no idea what he's doing yet. a SG that cant shoot. lol
- Okafor looked great in the post - even on defense

in regards to the other euro 7fter on the knicks (he's greek), he looked slow and uncoordinated. made me appreciate KP even more

shinmen @ 7/12/2015 5:13 AM
Great read. Thanks.

I think your interview was just posted on NBA Gametime..I use the app on iPad..Which Knick fan are you??..I'm assuming the dude with the blue Knick t-shirt and not the dude with the game shirt and the hottie girlfriend/sister.

The blue t-shirt or the white game shirt with the hottie next to you??..The numbers were cut off somewhat from the camera angle..

callmened @ 7/12/2015 11:35 AM
no they never showed me...smh. they interviewed sean (latino guy in blue shirt). i was sitting right next to him. they probably cut mine off because i gave a long winded answer which included his weakside defense and agility when rotating. smh

that "hottie" (95lbs soaking wet) was VIP and that was her friend who was next to her. they got interviewed. they also asked like 5 more of us but they didnt air it

o well

callmened @ 7/12/2015 11:37 AM

thats me on the right (gametime face!)

martin @ 7/12/2015 11:40 AM
Awesome stuff, keep it rolling!
callmened @ 7/12/2015 11:43 AM
the guy on the left is a "dedicated" knicks fan. he's uses his hard earned money to buy season tickets for the past 5 yrs. he goes to ALL of their events and the players/ex players know him by name. thats how i met Allan houston. lol. he likes to collect autographs and stalk players. my rule is if someone is younger than me im not gonna sweat them. but when i saw allan houston...my heart was racing. i simply said hello and shook his hand. and i said "thanks for teaching me how to shoot when i was in HS". lol. he laughed and said, then you should be playing here too.
