I doubt that soon unless we are 1-19 or something.
This has to be a record for early pessimism. Right after a great draft, solid Free Agency and a good start to Summer League. How is this even something that comes to a fans mind at this juncture? You'd think that there would be some optimism excitement about the possibilities for the coming season. Perhaps speculation about the Starting Lineup and Rotation. I can think of a ton of subjects of interest about the coming season before getting to something like this. Even if it's somewhat negative subjects like how the new players will fit with Melo.
This coming year I would guess that there will be some degree of patience tho not a lot. Phil knows this isn't a KG, PP and Allen or Leron, Wade n Bosh team he's put together. Still 20 games in i'd suspect it would depend on how the team is responding to Fish's coaching. If the team is playing well but maybe loses a few tough games I doubt they'll Panic that early. I think it would take a pretty epic fail similar to last year for any rash moves to be made. I don't anticipate that kind of poor start next year.
This roster has more toughness, talent and a better fit than last year's team. Just replacing JR, Shump, Dalembert and Larkin. To start the season Larkin was playing 25 mpg and he started in 12 of the 1st 13 games. JR avg'd 9 pts on 39.9%, 28% from 3 and 69% on FT's over the 1st 20 games. The was also ave'ing about 19 mpg in those 1st 20 games last year. I could go on but the issues this team had with injuries and players underperforming can't be looked at as mostly problems with coaching. It was a combination of factors and not just because Fish was coaching the team as a rookie, tho of course that played a role. Most of the problems are about the healthy players failing to perform at acceptable levels and in some cases resisting to buy into the team concept.

We're putting a complete new roster together next year of players that have never played together besides Melo and Afflao years ago so i would think a slow start is somewhat expected.
Worst thread ever.
The OP did leave the thread title open ended...folks could have said anything.
Bench Calderon, go with Grant; Give KP more minutes, etc.
I think we'll struggle to start the season. Honestly, training camp should be longer with the money these guys get paid & we need it more than other teams.
What I am hoping to see, is hope that no matter the record, there is potential for both near and long term improvement - that KP might become something, that the guys Phil brought in are performing and not scrubs.

Good coaches always find a way to make a roster fit; By using a system to get ultimate output from all the players. We simply can't afford to be mediocre next season. Good FAs are ducking us, because they know we are not winning. This new roster is the most balanced roster we've had in years. Other then Carmelo and Calderon, all the other players are guys who can play both ends of the court. I give Fisher no more then 30 games to prove that he can coach.

I don't believe that we have a deficit of coaching with this team. The roster has more team oriented players who come in with a reputation for doing the very things we need them to do. This isn't a case of hoping and praying that a player will defend and rebound but who hasn't really done that on a high level or needing a smart guard who can create for himself and others but trying to make a selfish guard do those things. Phil went and got players who by nature do the things we need them to do. So this will positively impact Fish as a coach. When he sets roles he has players who can be depended on to do the things he is asking of them.
The roster as it stands now is built to do all the important little things that will make it possible to execute the system on both ends. The names aren't sexy but the players are dependable in the roles we need them to occupy. That's the real key to being a solid team that can win games. Having a solid core of team oriented players will keep this team in most every game competitively.
Melo will ask for a trade more likely. I think Phil is committed to the rebuild and fisher. And I think he would not mind if Melo asked for a trade.
I think we will be around .500 though. Still feel like Melo will ask for a trade at some point.

Thats fine but the problem is Melo has a no trade clause and he is going to make sure after the criticism he took for gutting the Knicks, he doesn't do it again. Im not sure I would do a straight salary dump just yet, if we had our pick in 2016 I would do it no problem
Don't give him that long of a leash, 1969. If the Knicks lose the next summer league game, they should fire Fisher. We need results and we need them now, damnit!

You don't think we can afford to be mediocre next season? It's a guarantee we'll be mediocre, the question is simply whether we will be a mediocre team capable of getting a late playoff spot in the weak eastern conference, or a mediocre team that struggles to win 25 games.

Ummmmmmmmmm ok, so are you gonna protest out in from of MSG if we have a 7-23 record after 30 games?? Lol
My biggest worry with this whole team is Fisher, but I'm alright with giving him the season to prove himself.

I actually have a much better feeling about next season then I did last year. The new players are all dudes who can play at both ends of the court; which a total 360 from what we had on the roster (Amare, JR, THJ, Bargnani, Calderon, Smith, Carmelo/part time defender). When a roster has more then five guys who can only play one-way, it is nothing but problem.

Most NBA coaches wont step in to replace another coach after the season has started. If Fisher were fired during the season (which I seriously doubt) he would most likely be replaced by an asst. Take your pick.

I don't want the dude to be fired; I just want him to improve as a coach. He showed me nothing last season. He allowed Carmelo to play like a pure arse; which in my opinion was the wrong approach. He should have used Carmelo as an example which would have garnered him a lot more respect amongst the other dudes. He needs to be more critical of the mistakes; specifically, on defense regardless of who is the culprit. Don't just bash Early for a mistake while taking it easy on Carmelo.
