Ndour might be more than an energy guy, though. He seems to have a polished game, as well as the wonderful athletic measurables.
Some have said that the reason he is here is because we said we would have him even if wants to play overseas next year. The year's delay works fine for me.

Thank you for having common sense cause we don't get much of that around here.

Third string - how tall was KT? this dude has a incredible reach
The problem is that rolo has a bad injury history and he will likely end up playing decent rotation minutes at that spot and he is no draymond green(Yet!) So he would be an easy target for bigs if he were to play there. As I said, there was bound to be somebody who would show out. And surprise surprise somebody did and showcased a lot of potential. Phil has a team of pros with him so I'm sure he will figure this one out.
It's a good problem to have. Much better than not having enough bodies for a NBA rotation.

Not suggesting he is simply an energy guy. I'm suggesting that lance and Lou who were signed were energy guys who were unnecessary to be signed right before summer league.
I think you should just let Phil do his job though and after we see how the moves he makes work out with our own eyes then we can say whether the moves were good or bad. We don't know more than Phil Jackson does when it comes to basketball and that's a fact.

We need a back up guard and center. Best thing to do is to do what Walt suggested an d offer him a a big offer on a verbal agreement.

I know the verbal agreement was the plan but the smart thing to do might be to sign him now. He does seem to have a loyalty to the Knicks. The Knicks may need to look at stretching Jose or making a trade if they want roster balance. I think Amundson and Porzingis play some center.

I agree. The Knicks retain Thanasis's rights as long as they don't sign him.

Once again...somebody said that he was working with our SL team with the understanding that he would play overseas this year. Pretty sure CrushAlot had put out that info, but I'm not sure.
Found it: http://www.hustlebelt.com/mac-basketball...
Former Ohio Bobcats forward Maurice Ndour has found an NBA home.According to agent Eric Fleisher, Ndour will play with the New York Knicks' Summer League team in Las Vegas. Ndour will begin working out the Knicks immediately.
Fleisher cited Ndour's fit in the Triangle offense and the Knicks' willingness to let him play overseas next season as major reasons as why he signed with Knicks. Fleisher says that Ndour received offers from five other NBA teams for summer league, but the others teams wanted Ndour to play in the NBA's D-League as opposed to playing overseas.
According to Fleisher, Ndour is currently fielding multiple offers from teams in Europe and will spend next season abroad, but will maintain a relationship with the Knicks while overseas. Ndour currently lives in New Rochelle, New York - just a short drive from the Knicks' training facility.
Ndour spent two years with Ohio after starting his college career at Monroe College in New York. Last year, he averaged 16 points and 8.3 rebounds per game while being named second team All-MAC.
The Las Vegas Summer League kicks off play on July 10 and runs through July 20
This is a perfect situation for us, and he will come back even better prepared.
Maybe Phil has to get some credit for having a plan. Another example of the Zen Master going with the flow.

Better to have him roaming and be able to help on D...he loses some effectiveness if he is being backed down by someone 75 lbs heavier than him.
It was a great learning experience for KP, though. You are not going to face many guys in the NBA with OK4s weight and post game. Better to get beat now and learn from the experience, than in the regular season.
He looked better guarding him as the game went along. If he watches some films and learns tendencies, he will do even better next time, and even better when he matures physically.

Are you high? Have you watched the NBA finals? He's taller than GS center, during their small ball lineup. He's a keeper. Forget about where he fits.....He's a player you add first and figure it out later......before someone does. He's very...very raw, and he's already an impact player. He doesn't even know how good he is. But I'm sure agent(s) are all over this dude as we speak.
Completely agree. You grab this guy now while you can and figure out where he fits later. He brings every minor intangible LT/Amundson bring plus a ton more game on both ends. Nice to know we maintain rights with Thanasis if we don't sign him (I still think Thanasis can be a good NBA player--athletic as shit, defense is good and his offense is not as bad as some think) but this guy Ndour will get scooped up by someone soon if we don't act. Let's grab Ndour while we have a chance and work on getting Ty Lawson--maybe we look to trade Denver Calderon plus Early (Early's value is up with the good SL play, Ndour's the superior player anyway imo--he then backs up Melo) and whatever else for Lawson--grab a starting PG, Jerian backs up Lawson, plus we open up a roster spots in the process for Ndour, Elliot Williams, Galdikas and whoever else (maybe even Thanasis). Just a thought.
WaltLongmire wrote:blkexec wrote:yellowboy90 wrote:Why are people comparing him to Thanasis, they play two different positions?Because they both have similar natural defensive athleticism. ....but Ndour plays taller...is taller and a little longer.....but the surprise is that he has a jumpshot. So hes not a liability on offense but he brings rodman type intangles.....and energy.
Participated in the Portsmouth tournament, but was not great statistically. That is where Gaines saw Galloway last year. Its not impossible to imagine that he saw some Rodman-like qualities or potential in the games he saw him play in.
43% from the college 3pt line, and 78+% from the FT line, with both increasing nicely from his first year at Ohio, so he seems to have a good mechanical foundation as a shooter. Just turned 23.
Starts as a high energy "niche" defense first reserve and who knows what he becomes as he matures as a player.
Pleasantly surprised so far...hope he continues to surprise.
Some background info...
Born June 18th 1992 in Sindia, Senegal...Son of Anne Marie Dione and Robert Diegane Ndour...Has a brother, Bruno, step brother, Marcelin, and step sister, Madeleine...Is fluent in five languages, including English, French, Japanese, Wolof and Serer...Moved from Mbour, Senegal, to Japan in high school to pursue his basketball career...Awarded top prize at 2010 Okayama Prefectural Japanese Speech Contest in October 2010...Holds an associate's degree from Monroe College in information technology...Teammates at Monroe included future Division I players Orlando Sanchez (St. John's), Marco Bourgault (St. John's), Stephane Manga (Seton Hall), A.J. West (Nevada) and Drimir Ferguson (North Carolina Central)....Expected major at Ohio is information technology. Favorite athlete is Kevin Garnett...Favorite professional team is the Boston Celtics.
Will be able to curse out opposition players and refs with relative impunity, I would think.
The Senegal to Japan move is strange- of course he was probably the tallest guy in any game he played in over there.
i have a couple of friends who are not into sports but they just love languages that much. they both made temporary moves to japan just to learn the language and be part of a different culture than their own.
personally i think it shows depth, character, and not afraid of challenges.
at this point he may look better than thanassis, but i have been watching thanassis closely since i like his temperament on and off the court. i really think that if we have both of them on our team that we'd be very good defensively. thanassis has a knack for rebounding for a guy his size and today when the team was trailing by double digits early and the team needed points, he made 2 treys in a row to do "his part" on offense. if the offense is going ok, he probably feels that he doesn't need to play an offensive role. he's fine with knowing that he's inconsistent on that end and grow into it. personally i really think he has the potential to do just that. grow his game.
but its not going to happen against dleague or euro talent when he has clearly expressed a very strong desire to play in the nba.
coming back to ndour, dude's offense came out of nowhere. he was hot and we kept feeding him the ball and he delivered. but that's not necessarily a consistent scenario for him. i still like him though because he is showing he is versatile and likes challenges. the end of game interview with the team first attitude was also very telling.

Might be situations where he could play the 5, but it would be difficult giving him extended time at center, IMO. Having him around gives you some small ball options, though.
He already has an agent. I posted an article about why he joined our SL team, and it would seem that he will play overseas this year.
http://www.hustlebelt.com/mac-basketball...
He lives in New York State and went to a Jr. College here. I know he played on the Senegal national team in 2014, not sure where he might play in Europe.
Everything changes for me if he wants to remain here this year- I would try to play with the roster to find a fit, but he does not want to play in the DL- he would rather go overseas.
Best thing for us is an overseas gig, and then he plays with us beginning next year.

They could move Amundson to the 5 and keep Ndour.
Anyway, i really like what N'dour has shown and his college numbers look good too. I wonder what his stats look like against the tough teams? If he can get stronger he might be able to grow into a guy that can play a little small ball 5.
