Kristaps Porzingis reminds me of ... a unicornhttp://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/...There’s no one even remotely similar to Porzingis. The description of his game almost sounds like make-believe.

The Knicks rookie is 7-foot-2, but he’s capable of running off screens to fire up quick-release jumpers immediately after the catch. By way of his length, he’ll also protect the rim just by being there. It's a combination we’ve really never seen.
Many will say he resembles Dirk Nowitzki, or Andrea Bargnani, depending on what side of the fence they’re on when it comes to Porzingis, but those comparisons for the Latvian big man are far off. Nowitzki posts up and hits impossible off-balance fadeaways, but Porzingis looks more like a giant J.J. Redick, flashing to open areas, staying square and releasing a buttery jumper with near-perfect form.
Porzingis seriously lacks strength and will definitely get pushed around, but he’ll also outrun opposing big men and stress out the types who like to hang back in the paint and protect the rim. Nowitzki survived defensively by becoming great at stripping the ball from opponents, but Porzingis can have a much more substantial impact when it comes to altering shots. He’s a different animal.
fukk it. I think that his jumper especially from 3 looks like a line drive based on the 3 3's that he took. Park the skinny prick in the post.

You have to be able to project a little bit. The kid is adjusting to an awful lot of new things. The differences in living, Style of ball, talent, speed, strength, skill etc. It's gonna make any player a bit hesitant and uncomfortable in this totally new situation. Give him a chance to fully adapt to everything and also get his strength up to NBA standards. He's very weak compared to most NBA prospects much less NBA players. Still you can see the raw talent he has. Just go ahead and name a 7-3 guy you ever saw do what he can do! It's not gonna be a long list. KP admits he wasn't playing his best and was letting the game come to him.
I think the hope is that they get him some legit big man instruction on every part of his game. He needs to get better at everything a man his size needs to do. The thing is that he has a ton of talent and needs to fully develop. I think it's gonna be a while before we really know what we have in KP.

he's a number four draft pick. he isn't auditioning out there like almost every other wannabe in a knick summer league uniform. so if he gets a little lost in the scrum for a roster spot that should not be a distraction from the fact that he is an athlete and looks like he has basketball skills at 7'3" that players 6 inches shorter possess.

what is with this "line drive 3" trope? the guy is 7'3" with long arms. even if it is a line drive (which, based on the video below, i disagree with) he's releasing almost at rim level.

Hard to get in any rhythm when you are only playing 5 mins at a time. Also, i'm sure he looked lost at times as he and his teammates try to figure out the triangle. Clyde even mentioned that at times the team looks robotic when running the triangle because they are thinking too much.

You aren't the only one....it also depends what you are looking for. If you are looking for him to come out and dominate with a alpha dog explosion then you were disappointed. The Knicks clearly did not want him getting hurt. It seems like they told him to take it easy and just get some reps. He already proved he belongs so that's enough. You can see how he can take it up a notch. Hopefully we'll see that for the next 15 years.

I get that everyone is waiting for the next however many years, and nothing against the kid, I'm sure he's a nice guy. But guys this really is the Knicks fault. With the 4th pick you have to go and get an alpha dog. That's exactly what I wanted to see. Someone who knows what he is capable of and imposes his will, or at least tries to. He was too passive, summer league is the venue that you get to show off your talent. I just don't see why people are so excited about Shawn Bradley Jr. Not my idea of a 4th pick. By the way, dude travelled after he stole the ball and dunked it, took like 4 steps. But I guess I'm the only one that saw that too!!

I think KP does have an Alpha personality but you have to also realize that unlike all the NCAA babies he hasn't grown up in this atmosphere and has to adjust to the newness of it all. So he admitted that he wasn't being aggressive as he normally would be. He was holding back to get the lay of the land and feel of the game.
On top of that KP has a long way to go in order to catch up physically. He's not strong enough but that is something that can be addressed much easier than a lack of talent. He's now in a better position to get the help he needs with access to the best training, instruction and nutrition experts. From now on he'll get on a program and IMO once he has his body right it will allow the rest of his game take shape.
The Shawn Bradley stuff and making a big deal of traveling on his steal and dunk is just petty!

Unless you are a PG or Lead Guard with the ball in your hands constantly, it's difficult to impose your will in a Summer League game where there is limited structure and 90% of the guys out there will be shoot first in order to get attention to try and catch on for a camp invite. Couple that with Fisher putting KP at the 5 (a position that he really has not learned yet) in order to see what he can do. The Shawn Bradley comparison is suspicious since Holfresh referred to the kid as that on draft night. Aside from being big and white - not sure how you are making this comparison. I don't recall Bradley with any kind of outside shot.

Towns and Russell looked horrible this summer if i can compare them and they went #1 & #2...
If anyone believes those two will be ok and blossom into something that so will Kristaps
KP is simply a hell of a good basketball player. He's hungry and plays team (Euro) ball, not let me get my shots USA ball. You can judge alpha dog when he's ready to be an alpha dog. Right now like half the other 19 year olds he's going to have to learn the NBA game.
That being said I am thrilled with the mix of size and skill. He's a unique talent that loves the game.
