Melo can do all these things but it wouldn't matter if the season turns to crap and nobody would care if he did all these things in summer league if the season turns to crap. I don't care if he shows up to Vegas or buys rookies suits or reaches out to rookies. When the season starts though I care about tangible things that prove they contribute to winning like more effort moving the ball and getting teammates involved. He can ignore rookies all summer for all I care. But he does need to up those assist numbers to 5+ a game. That's what he should be held accountable for.

What I find odd is none of this is really out of tune. Is it impossible for Melo to NOT like the pick? No. Melo calling a player picked in the top 5 as a steal actually makes Melo sound stupid. I like Kristaps as our pick, but where was he slated? It's not like he was the consensus #1 or 2 and fell to #4. Melo may have reached out to him behind the scenes, I wouldnt take his brother's quote as gospel no more than an article being written on it. Well Paul was involved in the free agency process because Paul's actions/relationship were a contributing factor in one of the Clippers best players leaving. I don't put a lot of stock in the Stephen A. stuff. In regards to Melo calling a teammate to express disappointment that he was traded, I think it was nothing more than that. Last I checked, Lakers had one of the worse seasons in their history, similar to the Knicks. Why isn't he building team chemistry with Russell and Randle? When the Knick are playing in the third week of January, on the 4th leg of a 5 game road trip, it's not going to matter one iota whether or not Melo attended a summer league game in July..
You are making these kids look like the whinny kid whose life changed at age 10 because dad was late for his soccer game..If these kids need Melo in the stands at a summer league scrimmage then we have bigger problems than Melo needing to show up at a summer league scrimmage...
