Knicks · Mudiay at 4 whether he liked it or not. (page 1)

Let's stir the pot, because, well, why not?

I waited to post this to see if anyone else did first, where are all the threads about how Phil should have picked Mudiya even though he reportedly didn't want to be here? I mean there is a 9 page thread (http://www.ultimateknicks.com/forum/topi... )about how he should have been the pick and how Phil didn't know what he was doing.

I'm not a Phil apologist either, just curious to see the opinions of those who were so dead set Phil didn't know what he was doing, we're calling him out on no plan, etc, etc, etc.

Guess it just goes to show you, maybe more goes on in these pre draft interviews than is reported in the paper and picks can be made based on decisions and scouting we don't know about.

smackeddog @ 7/19/2015 2:58 PM
I wouldn't put much stock in Mudiays comments. How often have you missed out on something then talked yourself into whatever you ended up with?

Phil Jackson taught Emmanuel Mudiay a little bit about the triangle offense during Mudiay's visit with the New York Knicks earlier this week.

Mudiay talked about his visit with the Knicks during his workout for the media in California on Thursday, according to the New York Post.

Mudiay worked out for members of the organization on Tuesday. He had dinner with Jackson, coach Derek Fisher and others prior to the workout.

Mudiay told the newspaper that he was impressed with Fisher.

He’s a real good person,” Mudiay said. “With him just coming out of the NBA, I feel like he could teach me a lot, whether I go to that team or not. Just him as a person, he just likes to help other people.”

The Knicks scouted Mudiay extensively during his season in China and it's clear that he is one of several players they'd consider drafting with the No. 4 pick in the draft.

Mudiay said at Thursday's workout that he'd have no problem fitting into the triangle offense, which was a topic of conversation during his dinner with Jackson and other members of the organization.

“I feel like I can adjust to any system, to any style of play,” he said, according to the New York Post. “I can play a half-court system, too. … [The triangle] is challenging, but I think the more you get into it, the more you learn it, the more you understand it.”

Mudiay added: “It puts you in spots to be successful."

Mudiay has also worked out for the Los Angeles Lakers. He will work out for the Philadelphia 76ers and the Minnesota Timberwolves prior to the draft.

I'm not putting stock in it. It's a report, so this is if this is true at all. Just bringing it up to start conversation.

But as for your reasoning, I can buy it, but can't the opposite be true? He talked himself into NY because he thought he was a shoe in at 4?

OK.....and what are you trying to show here? Talk to me like an idiot because the bolder parts say he can adjust to any system, and the "report" says he didn't think it was the best fit for him.

Probably. Not really anything to get worked up about, either way- plus he's right, Denver is a better fit for him than the triangle.

Not getting worked up. Just playing sone devil's advocate. I'm curious as to if people think he still should have been the pick if he really didn't want to be here and it was something the Knicks contingent picked up on in interviews.

Before the draft I didn't see a triangle guard and seeing summer league didn't change that perception and the article corroborated my impression.... If I saw it then Jackson surely did. We got the right pick with KP. Go Knicks!

Jerian Grant was the perfect guard for the this system.

The Knicks hit it out of the park in this draft with KP & Grant

You wouldn't know talent if it was licking you on your nose..

They're both talented but Jackson has an anti-Isaiah Thomas way of doing things. Maybe you need to take a break from the Knicks and follow the liberty....

Eh, both Mudiay and Porzingis looked OK but not great. They both have some nice skills and glaring weaknesses. It's impossible to say who will end up being better. It's still a crapshoot.

Isiah drafted well..ESPN said he was the best draft GM ever..They have stats to prove it..His average pick were from the 21st position but his picks resulted as if he drafted from 6th..So if that's what you are talking about the outlook isn't good..

I've been saying that for years, but most Knick fans don't give Isiah his drafting credit. That should've been his initial position, not GM / coach out the gate.

But what if we knew the future and found out we are arguing over two guys (Mudiay vs KP) who will both become NBA All Stars.....Mudiay is ahead of KP now, but KP has enough passion for the game that he will not stop until he reaches his potential, starting with remove the soft label. Achieving that goal alone is all KP needs to be mentioned amoungst the NBA greats. Mudiay on the other hand have multiple things he needs to address before reaching his potential (TO's, IQ, FT, 3pt, Jumper, etc).

Agreed. Drafting was the only thing Isiah did right. Phil though might be better, because this current draft looks like we got maybe the best player in the draft and a guy who likely be no worse than the second best pg in this draft, all with the 4th pick and THJr. THat is impressive.

I don't understand..You said Mudiay is ahead of KP now and they are both the same age..KP has played longer as a professional than Mudiay..From 0-19 Midiay has amassed more skills..What makes you think this will no longer be the case going forward..Why do u think KP will be an "NBA great" and Mudiay will be stagnant given one has already possesses..What impresses me about Mudiay is his gifts he already have that can't be learned..Feel for the game, court awareness and vision..To me, if skills catches up the those gifts then he is a franchise player..

wh4t @ 7/19/2015 5:48 PM
I've been saying it for the longest that Mudiay doesn't fit what Phil Jackson is looking for in a point guard. Even when I was on realgm I was saying that the Knicks should target Jerian Grant or Delon Wright instead of Russell or Mudiay. Posters at realgm was saying that I didn't know what I was talking about when I suggested Jerian and it's funny how they changed their minds about him. Now Mudiay is throwing shade saying in retrospect he's glad the Knicks didn't select him because he doesn't think he would've fit in the triangle. Dude is a fake to me
