He is 240 and in college (anyway) he had no problem with larger centers. He held Okafor to 12 points in their meeting.
As another poster said, think Rodman (in this regard.)
Shorter guys with a lot of weight often do well guarding centers. I do think they will experiment with that. I don't think they see him as a pure forward.
Very Triangular move.
Seems like a smart, tough defensive big. Nothing wrong with adding another guy like that. He's used to guarding SF, PF and C. His size actually gives him a good defensive profile since he isn't slow and he can move well defensively. It'll be interesting to see how he does at this level in Pre Season.

How hard could it be to be better then Almundson and Thomas?
Can someone please explain how this a good move. He has a horrid offensive game. We don't need more offensive liabilities. We need a center, not him.

You are not going to find all stars to be your 15th player on a minimum contract- what do you expect the talent level to be, honestly? Why cry about something so trivial?

Does it look like I am crying? There is a fine distinction between crying and disagreeing.
He is a terrific defender from what I have heard, but we are loaded with players in his position at the 3 and 4 spot. He can't play center because he is six foot eight and unlike Ndour or draymond green, he posesses 0 offensive game to compensate for his lack of height.
It is clear we are need a center, and viewing robin Lopez injury history, the center we need would need to play significant minutes at one point and I have zero confidence in a majorly undersized offensive liability protecting the rim and running the triangle.

They would have had to take the other 300 guys you fell in love with during the draft process.
You are borderline delusional and really think you are something - LoL.

Yeah right. The day the draft is here is the day that counts. Due diligence done through the long year is necessary and I share that with everyone for years. It's like a !ath test you can take all of the practice tests you want but the only day that counts is the day of the test. Go sit in the corner and cry about it all you want

Atkins was an elite defensive player who defended 3-5 and was a rim protector. Not a bad idea to see what he can do. Maybe he shows more in TC and Pre Season.

This guy is going to end up playing for Westchester. The partial guarantee is just a way of sweetening the pot so he can make more than D-League minimum.

That is a great point about the partial guarantee. I think it is the same thing with Wesley.

Not a bad way of handling that situation. Most UDFA's have low chances of making a roster, Tho who knows if they will impress and stick with the team or not. It's gonna be interesting to see what others players they bring to camp and eventually D League.
I was reading the thread on Atkins on realgm. A guy posted that his friend is huge Virginia fan and compared Atkins to a poor mans Cauley-Stein. Not sure if that is accurate but it would be great if it was.

Well that's why I posted his awards which show he was a DPOY. He had a good showing at the PIT. The Knicks no doubt scouted it and liked what they saw.

I can... I picked Wisconsin to win the tourney at 8:1 and then took Duke to win the final... I like college hoops
UVA was one of the best teams in the country last year because of their effort and defense. That's the type of guy you want practicing against your starters

What the hll is a poor mans Willie Stein? lol Stein is a true 5 and Atkins is a small 4-5. If you want a comparison type player think Antonio Davis. Its very hard to determine Virginia players on the offensive end--their upside could be much higher than their college output because of the style of play there. I became higher on Justin Andersen watching him in workout video in addition to what he did at some points in the season. Atkins was only a part time player as well at VA but he showed very well at PIT 20-10-3 I think he was MVP. The guy that everyone loved here Ndour did not play nearly as well as Atkins. Atkins obviously was not a big part of what SA SL was working on he was a bit player . I dont know why the Knicks did not try to get him on their team.
Wesley saunders is more of a long shot than Atkins. Atkins has an NBA skill. Saunders played in a poor league and I dont think he was the best player in it--Shonn Miller Cornell. Saunders is not as athletic as you would want and he showed poorly at PIT against peers of his own skill level. Again only a small sample hes got good size for a 2G 6-5 220 but hes a project more so than Atkins imho.

Due diligence = Draft Express? You'd be fired from an NBA staff in about 3-weeks after you changed your mind for the 50th time.
Call when Big Frank is being announced at his first all-star game. I will send Byrun Mullens out to shake his hand.

The easy response for everyone is that these guys are camp invites and lttle more but I'm suspiciously optimistic that both of these late signings may be contributors.
I'd bet one of these guys making it before I'll bet on a guy like Early who has shown me zero b-ball IQ and zero defensively.
