Knicks · without melo, affalo doesn't sined (page 2)

We got him at a nice price., he can impact the court on both ends (maybe a little less than he could with the magic) ,he can hit those midrange jumpers effectively, and a very reliable 3pt shooter and secondary scorer, and has a high character unlike all of our other previous shooting guards. If he sucks, he has a movable contract and his deal is short as well. His wife shares are a bit concerning but nevertheless, I look forward to seeing him play.
His teammates get privileges with his wife? Maybe that's why Melo likes him.![]()
Seriously though a lot of his stats look bad. Nate Silver's 538.com had his projected value over 2 years at $1 mil total even though we're paying him $16 mil! I don't think he's that bad but I haven't seen any metrics that would indicate it's actually a good signing.

He is not the same player as he was in Orlando..

Yeah..I really liked him then but there was a huge drop off in Denver..He wasn't playing with the same energy..Same thing in Portland..He can be a good 20 mins a night guy on a good team..

You know that he had some dispute with Shaw right?

If your going to talk stat/metric, why was Nash a better play under MDA, who had less talent around him than DALLAS.
Safe bet would suggest system and coaching. When you win MVP, it's a big thing, when you win it back to back, your no fluke.
"I watched a ton of film," Afflalo said. "I anticipated wanting to play for New York. I was even watching triangle film before I even signed with New York just in hopes of. I'm very excited. I feel I can be very effective within the offense."Recent history suggests that Afflalo can thrive in the triangle, which produces a plethora of opportunities for midrange jump shooters.
He hit 46.1 percent of his midrange shots last season -- the 10th-highest percentage in the league (minimum 200 attempts).
This should be a solid move, not a glamorous one, and obviously Melo thinks so too

the thing is, he step up in that role in orlando, unlike any of our players last yr who were giving the opportunity to rise up

Right and it showed that Afflalo can almost fulfill the task assigned to him. The concern for him is the injury issue.

He didn't have the explosiveness or that extra gear in Denver he had in Orlando..Same thing in Portland..He lost a step..You wouldn't be able to get that player in Orlando for 8 mil per..

He was a good locker room guy there as a vet.

Yes I watched that. He was just standing at the corner and waiting for the ball right? Well I attribute this to the coach to a large extent.
When he was in orlando, he has done the same in a few games when he was told to do so.

eh ... I think that he is extremely overrated.
Really? I think he is decent except when he is in the play offs; However, I doubt we make the playoffs this season.

this stupid kindle keeps on autocorrecting and I can't be assed to proofread.
1 million total? Lol. I would love to see what they had derricks williams at.besides ws48 which other advanced stat is really bad?

Exactly who played well in denver last season before the coach got fired for not elevating his players, and affalo was a damn near a 4th option after lillard(scoring pg) LMA, and batum, plus no training camp and just kind of winging it.
Calerdon was considered a very accurate shooter and was pretty durable before he got here last season. Now he's a crackhead shooter, who cant stay healthy, that label came after 6 months despite 7 yrs of proving otherwise..smh..crazy

The coach has nothing to do with how a player look physically.. He wasn't the same energy player in Denver or in Portland that he was in Orlando..Ask yourself if the player in Orlando can be had for 8 mil per in this new economic environment?..No...

I tend to look at all the ones on bball reference. So that's box score plus minus, value over replacement, per 100 offense/defense. Generally, they don't indicate that they were worth that much of our cap space IMO.

I mean lin got 20+ million after 3wks of lights out basketball.
I seriously doubt anyone on this board truly paid any real attn to affalo last seaon in denver to call him out, your basing it on stats more than anything and that never tells the whole story

Well I'm telling you I was paying attention to him last year..He was on my radar since Orlando..Yellowboy90 was a huge fan of his in Orlando..Ask yellowboy about Affalo..We both cooled off after his performance in Denver and then in Portland..You don't have to believe, you will see it soon enough..
Houston paid the highs to get Lin..

Be real, the Orlando Afflalo is misleading and that was not the real Afflalo. He was forced to step up and became the first option in MJ's mode. Actually he was heavily criticized by the Magic's fans since he chucked and played ISO.
We better refer to the Afflalo while he was in Denver (not the second time).
knicks1248 wrote:Typo on the thread titleNew York signed veteran sharpshooter Arron Afflalo to a two-year deal worth $16 million. The second season has an $8 million player option. As for what—or who—convinced Afflalo to take a chance on the rebuilding Knicks, the answer is multifaceted, but seemingly reliant upon one man: Carmelo Anthony.
Ian Begley @IanBegley
Arron Afflalo says Carmelo Anthony played a big role in his decision to sign with the #Knicks.More went into Afflalo’s decision than Anthony’s presence, of course, but ‘Melo was clearly a key factor.
Afflalo and Anthony played together with the Denver Nuggets from 2007 to 2011. Afflalo made 161 starts during that time, which created a sense of familiarity between the two.
Afflalo was the 3-and-D specialist, while Anthony was the offensive juggernaut.
In New York, the two will reprise those roles within the Triangle Offense. Afflalo, a career 38.5 percent shooter from 3-point range, will be trusted to space the floor while Anthony often creates his own looks.
The Triangle Offense is about the team, but Anthony’s isolation proficiency will not be lost in its entirety.
That alone makes a trustworthy shooter all the more important should ‘Melo develop as a drive-and-dish facilitator. That’s a big if, but Afflalo has thrived in such a situation in the past.
Who’s to say he won’t in New York?
For what it’s worth, Anthony shot above 45.0 percent from the field in 2009-10 and 2010-11—Afflalo’s first two seasons as a full-time starter. He’s done that in just one full season since joining the Knicks.
Both players project to benefit from Afflalo’s arrival.
An efficient Anthony and a consistent Afflalo could go a long way towards pushing New York to the postseason in 2015-16. It could also provide a sense of continuity that’s been missing under Jackson, who’s created more changes than anything else.
Perhaps this is a sign that Anthony can draw free agents to Manhattan.
and im sure quin and lopez would have had 2nd thoughts, believe it or not melo's presence makes a difference
Good Stat there about Melo's shooting percentage. Context is he was posting up more back then, but carry on.
