There's no legit SG, other than Affalo. Unless you count on Sasha. Gallo didn't look too promising in SL. He seemed to be the same inconsistent shooter. Might as well try and get a better inconsistent shooter in JC.
i could certainly see this being the case. i still think/hold out hope that KP plays his way into the starting 5, but if he's the featured guy on the second unit maybe that'd be fine.
this is certainly setting itself up to be a very high volume Carmelo year, which i think is a good thing - it keeps him engaged and at his best. it wouldn't surprise me if he averages over 22 shots a game, something he did only once (the 54-win team in 2012-13).
I don't know that this is how things will shake out. O'Quinn seems like a poor fit in the starting lineup. I could see either KP or DWill in that spot. O'Quinn plays better as a Center.
There's also the chance that Jerian beats out Jose as the Starting PG and they use Jose as more of a SG off the bench. This would make the SL better defensively and offensively. Jose is more of a SG now anyway.

so many teams play with 2 point guards that this doesn't really worry me. i'm not expecting much from Sasha, i think he was signed to be more of a triangle guru for practices, but maybe he'll play effectively in limited minutes.
Grant is 6'5 and very athletic, so he can check 2's if need be.
Going to stick with KP starting, but O'Quinn getting more minutes as the "backup."
Hope Grant replaces Calderon at some point, but we obviously benefit if Calderon is playing well enough to keep Grant on the bench.
Gallo was a 2 in college, and is better as an off guard. He was a pretty effective shooter at St. Joseph- I thought he burned out last year and lost his legs. Give him 25 MPG, not as much ball handling responsibility, and some open looks, and he will surprise folks, IMO.
Not sure we want Anthony shooting 22 shots/game- it will be a sign that the offense is breaking down, especially if we are seeing a lot of 8/22 games, IMO. I'm looking at his assists- if he gives us 4/4.5 APG that will be a good sign for me, and tell me that he is buying into things.

agree on both the spacing front and defensively, KP seems to be a better fit. he can hit the 3, and him and Lopez will really defend the paint well.

I dont want to rush KP into starting line up at 19 even for 20 minutes. He needs development both in his body and his game--he cant guard guys like Blake Griffin et al so stick to unit 2. Oquinn is the upside guy on our team this year. What we "mightve" gotten from Monroe--my hope and the hope of what should be everyone else is Oquinn can give 35 minutes and avg 13-10-2.1.7 53%. Our team upside rests with Affalo and Oquinn.

Good thing he only plays Griffin twice. Anyway, if everyone is healthy I'd expect them to try to match up with Milwaukee.
Edit: Parker and Giannis(suspended) might not play so maybe so maybe O'Quinn does start
Way off BRIGGS!
You know he's starting after this tweet...
I am hoping that
PG - Calderon
SG - Afflalo
SF - Derrick Williams
PF - Melo
C - Lopez
is the way it shakes out... Melo was so much better as a PF than a SF last year

1) Derrick Williams should never ever start until he proves himself
2) Derrick Williams is a 4, he is way too slow to be a 3

He may not deserve it but I think DWill as a SF gives us size and speed. Melo as a PF gives us plenty of mis matches. Then you can bring in KP for DWill. And Grant for Calderon.
And I agree....Melo at PF doesn't have to use so much energy moving laterally, chaising SF around. DWill is younger and should have more youth energy for that. Melo is entering the end of his NBA career. He wants everything to be easy, which makes him injury free. At PF, the game is easy for him on offense. But as a SF or PF, his problems will be on defense.

This is pretty much what I would do. O Quinn is better as a center and should come off the bench for Lopezsince he is a reliable rim protector.

Agree with this.
O'Quinn is not that good at PF and above average at C.

I like the rim protection with Lopez / Oquinn and KP / Serafin.
But I don't like the offense...Think it could be too slow. No easy fast buckets. Harder to dig ourselves out of a hole, if we are down by a lot.....Fish is the key!
Between the first team and the second team what will be the rotation and who will see minutes.
Melo and Afflalo will see minutes for sure. Calderon gets 30 minutes til he's hurt. I see Seraphin in the rotation for 20-25 minutes per. Grant and KP get their 20-25 until they can step up. OQuinn and D Williams get their run but I'll hold off on how much time. They are in the rotation. That leaves Galloway who will rotate out both Calderon and Grant and Afflalo. Sounds like 9 to me.

The pressure isn't in starting - it's in finishing/closing out the game.
I think the bigger issue for KP6 is having him play the majority of his minutes with the right group. I'd rather him situated in-between Melo/Lopez with Calderon/AA also on the floor than potentially getting lost at the offensive end or getting in foul trouble playing with 2 non-passers / non-defenders in Seraphin/Williams off the bench.
Let the kid get warmed up and go right into the game. Let him play with our best player --- give 8-10 minutes of first half action and then let him play whatever minutes he earns down the stretch in the 2nd half.

Serafin is also adept at blocking shots. I like him and O'Quinn in the 2nd unit. Initially I had KP coming off the bench to start but after watching him in summer league I feel he will win the starting job. Takes pressure off Melo and puts him in better position to be a team player. They can make plays for themselves and each other to counter the defense. Phil always had at least 2 playmaking scorers on the floor
