Loved his joy for life and the game. I so much prefer happy warriors. Men who make everyone else enjoy the game and are part of the fabric of what makes the NBA so great. The personalities as well as the performances on the court marry in a way that really makes the league what it is. He's gone too soon but he will be remembered by all of us who saw him play.

Larger than life character.

Never a Knick, but he had a presence in the NY papers/media because of his time in Jersey, and I recall that I grew to like him as a character and even appreciate him as a player a little more because he was a "local."

This was one of the first comments up when he passed.

In 2008 when I was in Montifiore Hospital awaiting a Heart Transplant Mr. Dawkins came in to my hospital room to offer good cheer and hope. I had seen the dunks where he broke the glass backboards. I asked what that was like and he told me had done that about three times. He was as great as he was tall. I was priviledged. John Gavejian.

It's characters like Darryl Dawkins that made me love the game..He added flair to the game..Chocolate Thunder returns to Love Tron...RIP..
