Very sad. Have not seen anything saying from what.
hree-time NBA MVP and Pro Basketball Hall of Famer Moses Malone has died Sunday at the age of 60.

Malone, named one of the NBA's 50 greatest players, was the Finals MVP as he led the Philadelphia 76ers to the 1983 championship.

The 6-foot-10 center, nicknamed the "Chairman of the Boards," averaged a double-double while playing for eight teams over 20 NBA seasons and led the league in rebounding six times. The 12-time All-Star averaged 20.6 points per game and 12.2 rebounds over his career.

Moses Malone was a three-time MVP and Pro Basketball Hall of Famer who scored 27,409 points and grabbed 16,212 rebounds over an NBA career that spanned 20 seasons. Focus on Sport/Getty Images
His 16,212 rebounds still rank fifth on the NBA's all-time list, while his 27,409 career points rank eighth.

Malone was the first player to go pro right out of high school, signing with the Utah Stars of the American Basketball Association (ABA) in 1974. He played the following season for the Spirits of St. Louis before moving to the Buffalo Braves after the ABA-NBA merger in 1976.

He also played for the Houston Rockets, 76ers (twice), Washington Bullets, Atlanta Hawks and the San Antonio Spurs, with whom he finished his career during the 1994-95 season.

His No. 24 was retired by the Rockets, with whom he won the MVP in 1979 and 1982. He won his third MVP with the 76ers in 1983.

He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2001.

The great Moses Malone..Teamed up with Doc to win a Championship in the 80s..I'm just amazed at how many guys I grew up watching are just dying off..Great post player, great rebounder..Did pad some of those rebounds tho..Loved Moses..Rest in peace!!!

Very sad news. Hard to find players with his motor today. Rest in peace Moses.

One of my favorite Nike commercials..

Wow...

I'm about 2 months older than he was...pause for thought.

Lot of energy on the court...kind of a black hole on the offensive end, but he must have been someone opposing centers didn't look forward to playing.

Sad.

RIP, my only NBA championship when rooting for the Sixers back then. Big Dr. J fan as a kid knew when they got Moses it was in the bag. Fo, fo, fo, fo.

I guess this is what it's like to grow older and realize that you're heroes are going to be passing away and you aren't going to be here forever either. This is why I believe you enjoy every second of life. Don't waste time on negativity and anger. Life is a gift. I was a HUGE Dr. J fan and loved those early Sixers teams. Malone was amazing and seemed so much older than he actually was. Fo-Fo-Fo forever.

Life is a strange tough ride at times. Guy looks completely healthy could live another 25 years and doesn't wake up. You just have to enjoy your life the best that you can every day.

very sad - but with these athletes - they tend to have enlarged hearts and put a lot of stress that normal people don't. I also suspect some of these athletes from past era's may not have had the best diets, etc.

Melo reminds me a little of moses- the way he grabs his own rebounds!

RIP, Mr. Chairman. You will be missed. Taken way too young. One of the greatest players of all time. I wasn't aa Sixers fan growing up, but love watching him and Dr. J play. A thing of beauty.

Damn, very sad and so soon after Darryl Dawkins. Unfortunately, the human body wasn't designed for these kinds of heights. 7 footers tend to have a lot of heart problems and shorter lifespans.
knicks1248 @ 9/13/2015 1:57 PM
So what exactly was the cause of death?
dk7th @ 9/13/2015 2:33 PM
had to have been heart failure. he was a great player. damn it to hell!
Nalod @ 9/13/2015 5:22 PM

One of the best memories I have was of a basketball camp I attended where he and Kelly Tripucka played one on one. Moses destroyed him. It was all fun and games though.

Ewing's first NBA basket was a dunk right over Malone's back. Will never forget seeing that. Ewing: "Then Moses kicked my butt".

Sad.

NYKBocker @ 9/14/2015 11:40 AM
Wow. Darryl Dawkins and now Moses Malone. They say it comes in 3s.

RIP Moses Malone.

Rosey @ 9/14/2015 3:55 PM
Sad and sobering news. Moses Malone was an all-time great. Just thinking about some of the names who have passed on in recent years, Ray Williams, Caldwell Jones, Daryl Dawkins, Marvin Barnes, Moses. These are all guys from my generation. I echo the thoughts...Life is precious and fleeting. Each day we wake up is a blessing and not to be wasted.
