early is clueless on defense. he gets playing time based upon his d. he is still a negative-sum player. that's the reason.

Clueless is way to big of a stretch. I think his defense depends on his tenacity levels imo

no. he is lost on defense.

Yet he has put in two pretty good defensive performances this preseason and had some games in the summer league when his defense was on point following up terrible defensive displays.

Those who are lost on defense hardly ever have good defensive displays...

there are a couple of different facets to defense. he's not a good defensive rotator. superior ball movement will befuddle him. the better teams have superior ball movement.
