Jimmer Fredette, the new point guard for the Westchester Knicks of the D-League, has his eyes on the Garden.
The sharpshooter out of upstate Glens Falls said he entered the D-League draft with the idea of the Knicks affiliate taking him and adding him as their 15th man later this season.
“That was kind of the plan,’’ Fredette said Monday on a conference call. “We talked to them beforehand and we hoped to make it work so I’d be drafted by the Knicks.
“We had phone calls from other organizations. We’re very excited the Knicks were interested. I’m from upstate. It’s kind of coming back home. It’s not exactly where I’m from, but it’s definitely exciting to be back in New York. I loved watching the Knicks growing up. To be part of the organization in Westchester is a great opportunity for me to go out and play and hopefully be able to do good things and help the organization.’’
The Spurs released the 6-foot-2 Fredette during preseason and waived his D-League rights. Fredette is an NBA free agent who can be signed by any of the 30 teams, despite being the second pick of the draft by Westchester. Fredette said he turned down offers to play in Europe.
probably more the plan with his agent, and less with the Knicks, but we know Phil loves little white guys who can shoot.
I wonder how he does... should be interesting.

Jimmer got no NBA love so its off to Europe and who knows some scarey euro city awaits the fair haired boy and his lilly pure wife or a try out in Westchester as Triangle lord for the knicks.
Im sure by now he thought he'd be the white Steph curry and have the "Got Milk" ad campaign sewn up and his wife co-host of "awkward morning with Strahan" or their own Morman town by now!
Damn, even Utah passed on this kid?
Calderon's problem isn't offense, it's defense..Why would we remove a defensive liability to add another defensive liability?..

This is very true but Calderon has also been struggling with his offense as a Knick so far. The only thing I like about him is that he is pushing the pace some when he is in there.

because right now with Jose its both. He's shooting like 30 something %
Jose gets moved or benched, Gallo takes the lead PG role and Jimmer becomes a scorer/shooter off the bench.
Its far fetched, but his way back to the NBA might be as a shooter off the bench like Paxson, Kerr, etc
Right now in this system, Jimmer is a better option over Jose Calderon. It'd be a flat out upgrade, even with Jimmer underperforming so far in the NBA...How much so I can't really say right now but definitely an upgrade. Younger, more of an offensive threat, equal if not a better defender, equal if not better PG skills (which this system supposedly doesn't require out of a PG anyway). I know the Knicks plan on being patient with Jimmer, opting for a sort of DL tryout for an indefinite period of time but honestly, why wait?? I'd rather see Fredette on the 15-man sooner than later. Let's find out right now at the big level if he can contribute more than Calderon (my thinking is yes, he can. The bar is set so low with Calderon--the only way to go is up). If he can't do it, then we'll know and we can cut him and look for a replacement elsewhere. No big deal at all. If he can do it though, it could lead to more wins and even better play as a team...I wouldn't wait too long here if I'm the Knicks. If this is the guy they've zeroed in on, great. Let's do it and find out!! Nothing to lose, everything to gain the quicker we go through with the experiment imho.
First, let's not forget about Jerian Grant - he's been productive for the most part. He makes things happen on offense.
Regarding Jimmer - the one report says that he doesn't want to change his game - that he's tough to coach/mold. Well, as far as he's concerned, he could be everything that Steph Curry is today. Shoots from anywhere, not fast, but deceptive and herky jerky. It's the freedom and confidence to play in his own unique way which makes Curry so awesome and unpredictable.
What we've seen out of Derrick Williams throughout the pre-season and early thus far is what we're looking for from Jimmer. Give him a little freedom to take the shots he feels good taking.

Also Jimmer is 26 and Jose is 34! So yeah it would still make some sense to try and see if you could add a younger player even if he's not a defensive upgrade. It's possible that if Jimmer shows he can play well in this system that adding him would make sense. Also Jimmer seems to get a bad rap athletically, overall he's not slow getting up and down. He seems to lack lateral quickness and probably a serious commitment to defense in general. He's not the only NBA guard who has issues on D. Only a few are truly good defenders. I think it also makes a difference who is playing with a guard defensively. Most of his games have been played during 3 seasons in Sacramento. I'm sure that may have had some impact on his defensive game. Seems to me that his real problem has been that he hasn't been the great scorer that you'd expect him to be.

He suppose to me coming out of the D leauge at this point of his career, not going in, and if he's that much of a system player, why would you want this one-trick-poney kid
Already we have an upgrade with Jimmer?
I can see the Jimmer for Jose as a potential fit if Phil can trade Jose, but like I reiterated Jose has to show more. They are starting Jose so its not like they are delusional that he can't improve. Melo looked like crap and media is all "the knee, the knee". Players need time in real games to get their timing.
Im not here saying Jose is guaranteed to player like his is 26, but there is nothing wrong with filling the system with NBA players and kick some ass in the DL. Its good for Knicks, good for Jimmer.

I'd leave Galloway where he is--as a reserve guard for both positions, but primarily at 2G. Elevate Grant to starting PG, establish Afflalo as the starting 2 whenever he's ready, incorporate Fredette as a backup 1/2 along with Galloway, faze out Calderon and Vujacic from the rotation altogether.

Look where Jeremy Lin came from when we got him--how many teams had cut him before the Knicks gave him a chance? That dude galvanized this team/city like no one I've ever seen. If he stinks it up, for the money he'll be making, cut him and look elsewhere for backcourt help.

worst case is kerr or paxson? How the heck can you say that? Worst case is one of the best shooters and efficient players of all time?
worst case is nate walters or johnny flyn or that he remains Jimmer Fredette.
Gosh poor Johnny Flynn what the hell happened? The guy had great potential out of college
