Knicks · Where is Early? (page 1)

callmened @ 11/2/2015 3:07 PM
is he hurt? is he in the dog house?

this is concerning because i was a believer in him. I thought Phil was too because they drafted him. I know DWill is playing well as well as Lance but i wasnt expecting him not to play at all

fishmike @ 11/2/2015 3:09 PM
who's minutes does he take? Lance has been great. He's like having Jerome Williams coming off the bench, thats exactly how he played. He played in crunch time agains the Wiz.

DWill? He doesnt scope like DWill. Sasha? His minutes are gone once AA comes back...

Early is going to have to wait for this chance.

holfresh @ 11/2/2015 3:11 PM
Early is the third SF..Lance is playing PF...

Where do you play him? DWill is the backup to Melo and can play the 4 as well. Lance is playing well enough to get his minutes. Early is just going to have to continue to work hard and develop and eventually he will find a spot. He's young and there's probably nothing he's doing wrong, he just isn't quite ready to overtake anyone in the rotation.

He's on the bench where he belongs. I'm not sure what some of you saw in him that makes you think he deserves floor time but whatever it was i didn't see it. I've been rooting for the kid since we drafted him just like i root for anyone wearing the Knicks uniform but he still has a lot of getting better to do before you he takes any of the guys minutes that are playing now.

To be fair Early showed promise in SL and preseason..He has been playing a very good all around game..He has picked up his defense...He is a young player that can only develope with playing time...You don't get better sitting on the bench...

Lance is playing SF/PF depending on if Williams or Melo is in. Those three guys are all interchangeable but usually Lance will guard the opposing 3 when Williams is in or the best offensive player if Williams is getting burned. That's why we have seen Thomas matched up with Korver when ATL went small and Beal when Washington played with 3 guards.

Even more of a reason you are seeing Lance over Early...I do wonder if Early can guard the two...Maybe he can push Sasha for playing time down the road...

Early is going to be good. I predict we'll start to see it by the end of the season if not sooner.

If you watched the preseason Early really came on in the last 3 games. He finally was playing like he belongs in the NBA

GustavBahler @ 11/2/2015 10:24 PM
Dont believe Lance will be able to play at the same level indefinitely, he wasnt moving without the ball like he was the last few games. Spurs D might have had something to do with it. At some point Early will get his chance, guess he hasn't shown enough yet to supplant Thomas. Defense should get Early some minutes, offense a few minutes more.
herkyJerky @ 11/3/2015 1:32 PM
Eventually, not sure how long it's going to take exactly, Calderon and White Mamba's minutes are going to get cut severely, if not eliminated altogether. More than likely Mamba's role in the starting lineup will be taken by AA, more or less obvious there. If Gallo takes Calderon's minutes as PG, that will leave yet another SG position open during rotation. Maybe by then Early will be ready for some minutes? You don't lose much defensive intensity playing him alongside Grant. And IMO Early is better at finishing around the rim than Gallo anyway. What he doesn't have that Gallo seems to have is that clutch gene. But that's okay. If he's ready, I think that could be interesting.
BRIGGS @ 11/3/2015 1:37 PM
True--why dont we give Early a chance at SG while Affalo is out. Sasha has been pretty darn bad.

Because then you have last year. 35+ different lineups, zero rotations and just a bunch of guys running around not knowing what minutes will be, etc.

Change will happen. AA will get healthy. You can't just insert DWill into lineup because of a few games and then watch him play flat and low IQ ball and yank him the next.

This is a process.

They couldve went with a decision of starting Early at 2 instead of Sasha--makes more sense for the long term. Sasha was a bit player who hasnt played in the NBA in 3 years.--I think early had two meaningful pre season games where he showed some nice skill and athleticism.

herkyJerky @ 11/3/2015 1:47 PM
Because he just might not be ready enough yet. This is a guess, but they (the coaches I mean) are probably hoping and even confident that the Knicks can play at least .500 basketball long enough for Grant and Early to develop enough to give them more responsibility than they have now. And if anything, if you're going to throw him in there now, you don't throw Early into the starting line-up at the SG. You would throw Gallo in there if you're not ready to yank Calderon. You'd throw Early into the 2nd unit at the SG. A combo of Early and DWill can be terrifying at this point. But in a couple of months, with some development, it could turn out to be pretty exciting, especially if Grant is still running it and you've got O'Q back there bruising guys up.

Early is a bit player who has barely played 3 NBA games. I like Early, but you just have to go with experience. Again, this ain't NBALive.

Again, I think it goes back to Calderon. Calderon needs someone who can help bring the ball upcourt, especially when teams turn up the pressure. That's not a strength for Early right now.

Also Early really isnt a SG, he is a SF

if early is going to earn playing time it is for his defense. that was made clear months ago. he has demonstrated a level of cluelessness similar to stoudemire. lets remember he was like the 31st draft pick.

you said you expected the knicks to win. he is a losing player so he will help the knicks lose.

make up your mind.
