The "for fun" thing was genuine. Just looking at what the player he's most often compared to did his first four games.
I think that they should not be compared. They are completely different players. White, foreign and tall. Thats it.
KP is also going to be a defensive monster. Dirk was not that at all. I also think that their offensive games will be very different.

If I would pull one thing from it is even one of the more celebrated offensive big men of the last 20 years struggled with his shot his first NBA go around. Dirk's 3pt stroke was already there, but he was bricking everything else.

I'm aware. Basketball (sports) fans tend to struggle with the longview, IMO.
Dirk was deemed a failure after his first season- I remember Don Nelson apologized and said he had put too much pressure and expectations on him by praising him so much after the draft.
Look im excited about porzingis BUT we have many years to go before we can tell if he is anywhere close to dirk
I wouldnt trade Porzingis for any player in this draft--even if I didnt think he was better. KP is now an original Knick and I love BOTH Grant and KRs attitude--to me they are Knicks for 10 years++

I would liken it to when the Mets traded RA Dickey--yes some Met fans were pirsed we traded a CY young. But that Cy young turned into Noah Syndergaard and Travis Arnaud. And 2 yeras later the Mets SHOULDVE won the World SERIES and they have put themselves into position to compete for 10 years.

'Unknown' is a relative term, which makes all the difference in the world.
Every player in NCAA basketball or the Minor Leagues are "unknown quantities", so by your terms they all have comparable value and projection.

If KP continues to develop and becomes a stud and corner stone player. Then we would have Carmelo and KP as well as an already solid collection of role players for the most part. We probably stretch Jose in the offseason at this rate.
With cap space, quality role players, and 2 highly productive players. We should be looking at what other impact player preferably at the guard position can we add to give us a 3 headed monster.
