Knicks · Changes I would make (page 1)

BRIGGS @ 11/4/2015 10:46 PM
1. Immediately put Early in as my starting 2 guard and Sasha as my back up until Affalo is back
2. Commit to using 24-28 minutes from Derrick Williams as 6th man
3. Start Galloway at PG take Jose Calderon out of the rotation(this will need to be fixed this PG problem)
4. Keep KP in the 12 feet and in range as much as possible
5. Star Oquinn at C with Lopez as a back up
6. Use Lou Admundson

Line up

C Oquinn
F Porzingis
F Anthony
G Early
G Galloway

C Lopez
F Admundson
F Williams
G Sasha
G Grant

C Seraphin
F Thomas

So sick of that turd Hose-zay. I think I hate him more than Melo at this point.

It's really bad, when you're just hoping he can hit a couple buckets to offset Mo Williams going Loco in the 1st quarter.

I actually don't think Sasha is the problem. Nat this point you have to zero into the PG spot, because it is the source of our many issues. The starting PG can't guard no one. Because of his defensive weakness, he forced the front court to always be out of position l; which was our problem last season as well. Offensively, he is too slow; which often allows the opposing defense to set and make it difficult for Carmelo and other to operate in the box

clyderules @ 11/5/2015 1:02 AM
Pick up Bryce Cotton and Lorenzo Brown and release Jose. Now you have 2 good young point guards who can play D plus Cotton can really shoot.

Galloway is a guy who should play 40 minutes. He might be the best player on the team believe it or not.

We get efficient play from Oquinn and Galloway--they need their minutes to be increased. I believe we have a really good offensive player in Williams. No one is perfect in this league and he needs minutes and reps. I just wouldnt stand to allow Carmelo shoot 30% shooting 20 shots every game. The two guys we need to give a chance to is Affalo when he gets back--and to ALLOW Williams the minutes.

I dont think the Knicks stink.

I think we need to move away from Carmelo taking 20 shots even if that means letting him play 26-28 minutes.

If we move Oquinn to starting C I think we have better ball movement throughout the game--Lopez is not a guy who the ball should move through--hes a back up energy C. I really like what I have seen from KP in the mid range and his rebounding has been better than almost any of our other players.

That stats that we are getting no fast break points--thats why I would try Early at SG to see if we can generate some athletic back and forth for our side.

I don't think Sasha was that much of a problem tonight, at least not in the 1st half. He did a lot to help build up that lead. And I'm not quite ready to send RoLo to the 2nd unit because he had one bad night trying to finish around the rim. You have to do something about the starting PG spot. But I'm still not sold on starting Grant. There are a lot of people that want to see that, but I'm just not convinced that he's ready. It'll be very interesting to see how that situation plays out over the next 5 games or so. Are they going to give Calderon more games? Or are they going to do something soon?

I say let's try swapping out Calderon for Grant and see what happens. Why not? You gotta figure change is imminent anyway. It's got to be now--only a matter of time...How's KP doing with his starting assignment? Pretty good I'd say--looking better every game. Remember Mark Jackson? How'd he handle being thrust right into a starting PG role after we drafted him 18th overall back in '87? Pretty good. He survived it and had many good moments his rookie year. Dude started 80 games that year, played almost 40 mins a game and went on to win rookie of the year. Grant was just drafted 19th this summer. Just trying to make a case that I think Grant could handle it. If we had better options, I'd be all for easing Grant into this year. Problem is Calderon is clearly not a better option.

Kemet @ 11/5/2015 2:36 AM
After a 2-3 start with no Afflalo n no Lou Amundson
Fisher need to put the best players in the starter line up.

PG Galloway
SG Sasha
SF Melo
PF Quinn
C-Lopez
6th Man KP
7th Grant
8th D.Will
9th Seraphin
10th Calderon
11th Early
The Knicks need to start working on chemistry in the starting lineup.
One or maybe two of the top 10 draft picks each year are decent starters in their rookie season.
KP & Grant skills/talent are not ready to be STARTERS in their rookie season.
In the past decade the NBA has been increasing the starter lineup with rookies (water-down NBA)

nychamp @ 11/5/2015 5:54 AM
Early hasn't shown that he can shoot so he can't play shooting guard.

I appreciate Galloway and his all around game, especially his clutch and competitive nature, but saying he might be the best player on the team is like saying Dellavadova might be the best player on the Cavs.

Enough already with the 'porzingis should only play 12 feet and in' mantra. We get it, noted, totally clear on your take. KP happens to have a much more versatile game than that and I want him to take his shots and make plays within the flow of the offense, wherever on the court. Something he has been doing for the most part by the way. Not artifically restricting himself like you suggest. He should lay off the ultra deep threes, though.

I've never been a fan of his but Sasha has not been as bad as made out to be on this board. He's pesky on defense, is active, moves the ball and generally makes smart decisions on the offense. Yes, his jumper is not falling like Melo and KP right now, but is he taking bad shots? Inhibiting ball movement? I'm surprised to be saying this given my historically blah feelings about him, but Sasha is not the problem and is our best starting SG right now while Afflalo is out. Want Gallo to have more total minutes at the two? Fine by me, but Sasha is not that terrible.

I think the Knicks might keep the one open roster spot until they can use ten day contracts to sign players.

Early DEFINITELG NOT the answer. Lol. For me I would shift calderone to shooting guard and start the rook.

but were up by 14 in the first qtr, Mo williams, shot 40% and took a team high 19 shots.

sasha and calderone combing for a +7

galloway alone was -22 in 29 minutes, the same exact minutes calderone played

and grant, who missed every shot he took was -5

You guys who keep hammering home calderone sucks, are not paying attn to detail

I agree.

Calderon wasn't great last night but he wasn't the problem.

Biggest issue, IMO, was the rotation. K O'Quinn should have stayed in for R.Lopez (who wasn't playing too hot) at center. D.Williams should have gotten more playing time when KP was in foul trouble.

Not the point though. Point guard is THE glaring weakness in the starting unit, whether or not Sasha decides to show up, and the rest of the unit is scoring in the 1st quarter.

Just because 1 quarter of the basketball was good for the rest of the team, does it make it right. He sucked again, for the 5th time in 5th games, causing more issues than benefitting. Can't shoot, so not helping there. Can't dish or penetrate either, so net negative there as well. And defense.....well you know.

So actually, you should be paying attention to the details. 5th game he has provided NOTHING to the Knicks offensively or defensively...that's a large sample size.

Gots to pull the plug.

Exactly, when grant, quin, and dwill are in the game we run all the time.

Seraphin was hurt, he has to wait until there's another injury before he should see PT.

I like grant and galloway a lot, but grant is shooting 25% from 3, and 44% overall, despite getting to the rim more than any guard we have.

I like their penetration, but they are both walking the ball up court in all of our losses.

Calderone comes down court and looks to set up the triangle by dumping the ball in to whoever is playing center. On Pnr, lopez, melo, and KP are missing wide open shots, and the spacing is terrible.

Doesn't matter if Grant is shooting 25% from 3, he draws fouls, drives and kicks to the open man for the open 3, and pushes the pace more than anyone else in the roster.

Grant walking up the floor is 10x faster than Calderone walking up the floor in his geriatric robe and slippers.

Either way, Galloway should start instead of Jose in the 1st unit for fit, spacing, and keeping some semblance of the triangle.

Jose should get garbage time minutes or DNP's. Can't wait for Afflalo to finally help balances things....

herkyJerky @ 11/5/2015 10:01 AM
We built that lead in the 1st quarter because the defense on LeBron and K-Love was pretty damn tight. KP was all up in K-Love's butt and he couldn't do anything about it. Calderon was not the problem last night, for the most part. At least his lack of defense wasn't. However, he gave us nothing by way of shooting. If he would've been able to knock down some shots, maybe it would've been harder for the Cavs to cut into the lead during the 2nd Half. I was all for giving Calderon a shot to see if he can help score some points at least, but if he's not doing that, then what is he doing?
Finestrg @ 11/5/2015 10:16 AM
Love what I've seen from KP the last couple of games. I'll speak for myself on this--I know it's early but I really needed to see something, anything, that showed me he was indeed special. Competitiveness, a fair amount of production, maybe a great play or two, etc.. Well we've seen that these last two games. I feel a lot better about him now. I still have some concerns (his strength, the fact that his game isn't defined despite playing professionally overseas, and I don't know if he has small hands for a man that big or what but his hands aren't great) but he's making good progress. I agree with Briggs 100% -- he needs to be operating 17' and in. The closer the better. I said it on the game thread last night. You don't mind the occasional 3-ball but he can't camp out there. I can't wait to see KP refine and define his game--can't wait to get to a point where he gets the ball somewhere in the mid-range/high post/low post and we all say, "it's a wrap. KP's in his office--go to work big fella!" He's not there yet. Right now, he doesn't have an office. But I've seen enough now to know he's on his way to becoming something special--it's just gonna take some time getting there. I'm all for being patient with him. Can't wait 'til he's the focus of this offense one day or one of them, where everything starts going through him and he's the one taking 15-20 shots a game (good high % shots), not Melo. In the meantime, there's been evident progress and it's great to see. I like that he's being a factor on the boards too. He'll get there..

Shout out to Briggs--I gotta tell ya my man, your analysis has been spot on lately -- I don't disagree with anything you've had to say, whether it's concerning KP playing closer to the basket, going after SG Jabari Brown after the Lakers cut him, a backcourt shakeup that we desperately need, D-Will being left alone and allowed to just do his thing w/o being worried that he'll get the hook after a bad pass or a TO, KOQ playing more/taking some more shots (he's overpassing a tad I feel), Early playing some 2G for some more athleticism/transition offense and even trading Melo if the right deal presented itself (something that would be in the best interest of the team moving forward--I agree it's hard to picture winning it all with this guy as the main cog) -- it's all right on the money 100%. Nice job.
