Knicks · Knicks should pick up Erick Green (page 1)
This is a NO brainer and I mean no brainer with where we are at. He can help shore things up--hes a better prospect than Jimmer Freddette.
clyderules wrote:Phil hasn't acted on Cotton, either of the Browns, or Murry. I guess that he did get Jimmer but in my opinion there's room and a need for 2 more guards who are actually alive. Can you tell us a little more about Green?
Greene was one of the best PGs in SL this year. He had 20 assists with 2 TO and avg 15-4 and 2 steals in 24 minutes shooting 54%, he needs a chance--hes tall hes sneaky quick and he can play.

If only the Knicks were 3-2 and the season wasn't already lost.

A few of you guys have mentioned this. I never considered the need to do this. Is it mandatory before picking someone up? I guess it would make sense--there was a deadline before 15-man rosters had to be finalized. So what's the official word on this -- do you have to wait for 10-day contracts to commence before you can sign anyone? What if we chose to sign someone right now for the rest of the year? Could we do that or do we still have to wait for 10-days contracts to start? And when does that start again? December sometime?

We need a good young PG--this kid is perfect--really its a steal. The little bit fo extra salary he makes is not comparable to actually acquiring him. I dont think its in an NBAs team to be cheap on min contracts. This is like finding Galloway last year. You sign him to a 3 years minimum contract with only the first year guaranteed to we keep his rights for a couple of year.
Galloway if he breaks out this year will be paid big. BIG mistake we made when we couldve secured him with multiple non guaranteed years.

Hoopshype says Galloway's deal is a team option for next season.

How do the Knicks convince him to sign with them, considering what's sure to be fierce competition around the league given how obviously good he is?

Our starting PG is 34 and hes not working out--I can see significant available time for you--great opportunity to play here. Wed be committed to you if you are to us. Then Id commit to play Galloway Grant Greene and Affalo FOR THIS YEAR--use Sasha as 5th guard. Then waive and stretch Calderons contract to keep a space open and add cap room next year(the best possible outcome with us and Jose)
EDIT: Ok, I see DEN just waived Green and will sign Kostos Papanikolaou (resign I guess--they got him in the Ty Lawson trade, waived him sometime late Sept. before his $4.8mm deal became guaranteed. Now they're bringing him back): http://www.ultimateknicks.com/forum/post...
NBA Comparison: Bo Kimble
Strengths: Green exploded onto the scene in this his senior year becoming the leading scorer in all of college basketball while going from being a 2nd round prospect to a likely first round prospect ... At 6’4, 185 pounds, Green has below average size for an NBA shooting guard but does have good length ... What is so impressive about Green is that he improved his efficiency drastically in each year of his 4-year career ... Coming off the bench his freshman year, he shot 29% from the floor, 27.5% from 3 point range, and 68% from the line. His senior year, he improved to 48% from the field on over 17 shots a game, 39% from 3-point range, and 82% from the free throw line. Was a highly efficient player on a high volume of attempts ... ... An extremely quick and crafty player that pushes the ball in transition attacking the rim, which is when he is at his best ... A tremendous 1 on 1 player with a bevy of moves at his disposal ... Is comfortable spotting up or shooting off the dribble with solid shooting form. Shows good movement without the ball and uses screens efficiently. Has improved as a passer in his 4 year career, averaging almost 4 his senior year on a solid assist to turnover ratio. Is especially good at finding the open man off of the pick and roll ... VT Coach James Johnson is a huge fan of Green’s work ethic and notes his ability to makes smart decisions on the floor.
Weaknesses: A combo "tweener" as Green shows much better scoring ability than facilitating and lacks ideal size at the 2 ... Only 180-185 pounds with little strength. Will definitely need to get stronger if he wants to keep bigger guards out of the lane and get himself into the paint on offense ... Bigger defenders can body Green rather easily and knock him off balance when penetrating ... Is a below average finisher with contact and will need to improve his floater to be effective at the next level ... There are questions about whether Green will be able to guard any position in the NBA ... Will need to keep up his improvement as a passer because he will likely be forced to play some point guard. Although very quick, Green does not possess great jumping ability so will have to learn how to score around bigger and more athletic defenders ... Seemed to focus more of his energy on offense this year opposed to defense, leading to less effective numbers on a per minute basis ... Green has shown the ability to be effective when having the green light at all times offensively, but how much being relegated to a secondary role will affect his efficency remains to be seen ...
Notes: Led the entire nation in scoring, averaging 25.0 ppg for Virginia Tech as a Senior ... Measured 6'2.5 (in shoes) 180 lbs, with a 6'6.5 wingspan at the 2012 Deron Williams Skills Academy
He actually was listed as a PG I thought, so maybe...
We desparately need to move past Calderon, he is not even a stop gap at this point.
I would basically start auditioning replacements this year.
smackeddog wrote:Lets be honest, pretty much anyone is better than Calderon at this point except for Jimmer. Unfortunately we seem determined to add Jimmer!
Lol, iteresting twist with Jimmer. I do wonder what the kid can do. it is now or never for him and he knows it. I do think his defense could be ok but he lost all that muscle and now I'm not so sure.
