This is where both you and Stephen A are wrong, you do not need to pick one or the other. There is no definitive "either build around Melo, or build around KP" that has to be done right away. When KP is ready for prime time, the Knicks will pass the torch to him and Melo will either be phased out and traded to a contender, or continue in a supporting role as a secondary scorer. It's really that simple. But you insisting this team cannot be Porzingis' team WHEN he is ready for that because Melo is here is very foolish on your part. It is clear you will never quite understand this, but there is zero advantage to trading Melo as long as he continues to buy in and play his part.You trade Melo sooner rather than later while he still retains some value. Quantify the value of "picks"? A "pick" could be anywhere from 1 to 60, with represents many tiers of wildly varying values.
You trade him the instant someone dials 9 to dial out on the landline....What part of "no-trade clause" do you struggle with?
If they're even talking about trading Melo, then a "no-trade clause" can be waived. What part of that do you struggle with? Basically all Fisher has to do is bench Melo, Melo complains to Jax, Jax honors his request.

You lost me here with benching "StarMelo". I doubt it would go down this way. It goes down with a healthy Melo going into a situation where he can contend AND he is on board with it. Not some drama like thing. It gets orchestrated in a way that benefits both.
Now the concept of Melo for value and a longer term upside is conceptually an ok thing but its been discussed many times already in the offseason that any "Rain-man" like redundancy to promote your agenda seems to fall on deaf ears given your past.
If you want to discuss this, why not come up with some logical examples.
I think the most natural choices are both L.A. teams and Chicago.
Chicago starts with Butler. No way to Rose.
I want Clarkson and Randall and late no. 1 "yah pancake eating Muthaphucha"! That gives them Russell and Melo with lots of cap space for next year. I might even give them Galloway with reluctance.
This does not kill them. If they think Russell will take too much time, we can take him and Randell. Im not thinking cap space here. Im assuming they can have Melo and sign Durant for next year.

Clippers gotta give me Griffith as a base. If they think it helps get them over the hump short term. This trade is more about how attractive is Melo to them and can they give us enough to wet our future appetite.
I might be inclined to move Griffith to Boston or PHX who is hording picks and yoots via a 3 way. I want BKN's pick. Does Boston do that for Griffith? They love that red head stuff in Boston!
In short, I like the concept but would go down real nice as Melo can't go to a depleted roster.
I do this not out of Melo hate or diminished value fear, I do it based on a path to contention. I do it so Melo can win.
