Knicks · What I been feeling pretty much since we drafted Kristaps Porzingis (page 4)
DrAlphaeus wrote:Again, we have to grant you that Melo will happily leave. And your suggested method was what again , giving him the Marbury treatment? And that says to other free agents: there is a ballclub that has it going on?!
Depends. If he divides the lockerroom, pitting himself vs Porzingis and the youth movement...
Sure, Marbury treatment.

This is where both you and Stephen A are wrong, you do not need to pick one or the other. There is no definitive "either build around Melo, or build around KP" that has to be done right away. Obviously KP is the future of the team, no doubt about it, but both you and ESPN, and Stephen A think in extremes. It doesn't have to be far left or far right. You build around KP, while keeping Melo as part of the equation to remain as competitive as possible while KP develops at a steady rate. You do not throw KP even more in the fire, starting him does enough, and fortunately he is mentally tough enough to handle his current role. But to increase that role asap is a huge mistake. We DO NOT have a draft pick this offseason, we WILL NOT yield a high return for Melo at this stage, so sit back and allow KP to develop while Melo scores his 20+ ppg, wins us some games, because again, there is no advantage to losing, it does not help us this offseason. When KP is ready for prime time, the Knicks will pass the torch to him and Melo will either be phased out and traded to a contender, or continue in a supporting role as a secondary scorer. It's really that simple. But you insisting this team cannot be Porzingis' team WHEN he is ready for that because Melo is here is very foolish on your part. It is clear you will never quite understand this, but there is zero advantage to trading Melo as long as he continues to buy in and play his part. You trade Melo sooner rather than later while he still retains some value. You will not get better value down the road, especially draft picks. If you or others can't see the value in picks
Quantify the value of "picks"? A "pick" could be anywhere from 1 to 60, with represents many tiers of wildly varying values.
You trade him the instant someone dials 9 to dial out on the landline....What part of "no-trade clause" do you struggle with?
If they're even talking about trading Melo, then a "no-trade clause" can be waived. What part of that do you struggle with? Basically all Fisher has to do is bench Melo, Melo complains to Jax, Jax honors his request.
Understand?
You lost me here with benching "StarMelo". I doubt it would go down this way. It goes down with a healthy Melo going into a situation where he can contend AND he is on board with it. Not some drama like thing. It gets orchestrated in a way that benefits both.
Now the concept of Melo for value and a longer term upside is conceptually an ok thing but its been discussed many times already in the offseason that any "Rain-man" like redundancy to promote your agenda seems to fall on deaf ears given your past.
If you want to discuss this, why not come up with some logical examples.
I think the most natural choices are both L.A. teams and Chicago.
Chicago starts with Butler. No way to Rose.
I want Clarkson and Randall and late no. 1 "yah pancake eating Muthaphucha"! That gives them Russell and Melo with lots of cap space for next year. I might even give them Galloway with reluctance.
This does not kill them. If they think Russell will take too much time, we can take him and Randell. Im not thinking cap space here. Im assuming they can have Melo and sign Durant for next year.
I don't Think Lakers do this BTW. Im just blowing smoke out my ass.
Clippers gotta give me Griffith as a base. If they think it helps get them over the hump short term. This trade is more about how attractive is Melo to them and can they give us enough to wet our future appetite.
I might be inclined to move Griffith to Boston or PHX who is hording picks and yoots via a 3 way. I want BKN's pick. Does Boston do that for Griffith? They love that red head stuff in Boston!
In short, I like the concept but would go down real nice as Melo can't go to a depleted roster.
I do this not out of Melo hate or diminished value fear, I do it based on a path to contention. I do it so Melo can win.
Win-Win, not "I hate melo good riddance!!!"

Read the thread again, I already stated Chicago as a landing spot.

Well his beloved "brand" is damaged beyond recognition. Bye Bye Madison Ave! Put up those Nike Porzingis 1s where the Melo's used to be.

thats an assumption not a fact. I think melo like everyone else wants to win. He ain't winning here.
Everyone doesn't just want to win.
Gasol stayed in Memphis because he likes living in and playing for Memphis. LOTS of prime professional athletes have stayed or gone to a destination NOT because it gave them the best chance to win.
Melo signed in NY 16 months ago when it was perfectly obvious Chicago and Houston were better "win" options.
His actions suggest he just wants to be in NY.

Wrong. Chicago and Houston didn't have the dough. $124m is why he resigned.
He made his bed and now he's laying in it. My whole "schtick" is how we can get out of the money pit with value, either picks, role players, or expiring for cap room.
Just logic.

Because Derek Fisher is benching him….
Alrightly… Are you a Reynolds Wrap guy or do you use the generic tin foil due to the lower cost?

So the plan is: bank on Melo being a Marbury-esque malcontent, have Fish pull a
and banish him to the bench until he "happily" accepts a trade, damage Brand Melo until it limps to the Second City while the reputation of Brand Knickerbocker comes out clean and white like a pressed shirt, attract free agents, fly Air Porzingis to the championship before his rookie contract is up.

I like the Reynolds non stick foil to be accurate.
Wouldn't be the first Melo feuded with a coach. If Melo behaves, maybe we can find him a nice landing spot in February.
Or we can get the cancerous way...

Plus all those potential free agents he mentioned (Paul, Durant, Curry, Blake etc) would love to sign here and take a back seat to Porzingis, especially after what Chuck wants to do to Melo. ![]()

The sad thing is, it's possible you get your wish, with the luck of this club. When it all goes down, I look forward to being beat to death by cute photos in your Man Up thread.

No, your whole schtick is rehashing the sam topic daily for no good reason.
IF Melo decides he's willing to forgo his NTC clause and it becomes a relevant topic as to whether the Knicks should find a deal and pull the trigger that's one matter.
But until that day comes, whether or not the Knicks SHOULD do it and whether or not other fans agree the Knicks should do it is superfluous.
Melo hold 100% of the power. MAYBE a relevant topic to revisit every day is reason why Melo should waive his NTC. That has least as a foothold in relevancy. But you don't seem aware of that fact.

Really? Which major free agent is going to sign with the Knicks for $19m this summer?
In 2017, Curry, Conley, Griffin, Westbrook are free agents and you wouldn't want to have a chance at least? Who wouldn't want to play with an up and coming unselfish player like Porzingis.

Not because I hate Melo, but I want the Knicks to be in an even better position to compete for a Championship.
Not sure what you guys are hoping for with Melo in these next 4 rapidly declining years.

I'm hoping this current team can be come a winning ballclub in a couple months time with a healthy Melo, rapidly developing rookies, effective role players, good coaching, health and luck, personally. Get to the playoffs this year, make some noise there, and then see what's going on. Crazy idea, I know.
