Get to the playoffs this year, make some noise there, and then see what's going on. Crazy idea, I know.

In 2017, Curry, Conley, Griffin, Westbrook are free agents and you wouldn't want to have a chance at least? Who wouldn't want to play with an up and coming unselfish player like Porzingis.
In 2017 we will have the cap space to sign one of those guys with both Melo and Porzingis here. We will have a chance at them regardless. That is one of the many things you seem to be missing. in 2016, we may not have the cap space with Melo, i agree, but then again, which max guy are you targeting. Seems like 2017 is a better opportunity.

IF Melo came to the Knicks and said he'd waive his NTC, I'd be all for the Knicks exploring all options and making a deal IF a good deal could be made.

I will tell you. I am hoping for a player who will hand over the keys to Porzingis WHEN he is ready, and take a secondary role, something he has said before he is willing to take. But until then, i want him to just be Melo. I don't think Porzingis is ready to be the man yet, i think in a year or 2 he might be.

See the other Porzingis thread, i posted the article in there. He said a lot of good things about Porzingis upside, and a very small part about building around him without Melo. Basically that Porzingis has franchise-building potential. What i disagree with is everyone lumps this in with Melo because he is at a different stage of his career. Porzingis upside is completely independent of Melo. You can have both, you don't need to pick one or the other. And i agree with you, you just don't trade him to trade him. Most realize that. We can actually build something with what we have, after this summer have all of our future draft picks, and have plenty of cap space to build with Melo there. For now, Melo helps us win games and helps KP learn how to score and what is needed to carry a franchise.

I didn't even put 2 & 2 together with what Chuck was saying and what SAS was screaming about and what Ford wrote, because like you said: I didn't even read Ford's comments about KP as having anything to do with Melo other than the picks we don't have from the Melo trade and acknowledging that KP can be the future of a franchise — hopefully this one!

I don't think he limped around in any All Star games before those situations. Like you said, he's only getting older. Can be bad for the body but good for the brain.
We are in a pretty good position at the moment to build something. There is no reason to force anything. If things workout where we can get a deal we can't refuse for Melo and he can waive his NTC then fine. Other then that we are in good position to add a big time FA with the cap space we will have this offseason

One of the things that makes KP special is he doesn't need to be a go to guy to be an impact player. He isn't ball dominant. He has potential to put up 20pts without any plays called for him. This goes without the Defense and rebounding. Can't say the same about Amare or Lin. KP also doesn't seem like an entitled person who would conflict with Melo over anything.
Lin also failed to beat the trap by the time Melo got healed from injury. He wasn't ready to be a go to guy. Still isn't, very good spark plug though.
