Knicks · Post-game observations vs. charlotte (page 1)

i missed the first quarter so i don't feel entirely qualified to make a thread. that said: the bench was outplayed this time for the first time this season. lamb and lin just killed us. glad to see afflalo back in there. he is going to be good for us if he stays healthy, and finally we don't have to endure vujacic who is really hard on the eyes. that said, you could have predicted that his return would disrupt fisher's coaching/rotations.

still... this was a "bad loss" in my opinion. i believe in the process of learning how to win and i believe in allowing everyone on the roster to contribute... AND i like fisher as a coach a whole bunch but you CANNOT have calderon out there guarding a slasher like lin-- EVER. lets hope he learns from this and sics galloway on the lins of the world.

melo was hot tonight which is fine-- i guess-- but i'd rather he work the ball as part of a balance between process and results.

stat of the night: porzingis 0 free throw attempts. what's up with that? can we run some plays for this precocious neophyte? also, no free throws and a shit-ton of threes. is this what we want from an ostensible triangle-centric team?

also merely 6 fast break points. this is a definite pattern this season for this team directly traceable to poor or ineffectual perimeter defense. translation: switch galloway and calderon!!!

Melo ISO Ball in the 4th killed us again, this time costing us with a 24 second violation.

For the love of God Fisher, draw up a different play!

Died big time. Guess how many seconds it took for Charlotte to beat us? 1 second inbounds pass gather and finish by Zeller.

Stupid selfish basketball. Dribble dribble 10 seconds dribble fade away AIRBALL!

Melo FTL

Does Fisher have Woody on speed dial? Jackson better block his number.

Last few games starting to look like Woodson offense in the 4th quarters.

You guys have zero cred..How do you watch that game and your take away is Melo..The argument is just tiring..U guys are killing the board..It not intelligent anymore..

So you'd rather Melo dribble into a corner for 10 seconds then shoot a desperation fadeaway airball over a taller 6'9 defender, than you know, draw up a play like the Zeller game winner?

You must have not watched the game! What lost us the game is the five minutes Fisher decided to play the subs with Lou at PF. That was a bad decision, because we really had no one on the floor we could have dumped the ball and ask to create. The second unit is much better when Williams is part of it. His athleticism and slashing ability are valuable and need to be put to better use. I notice that Fisher does not really trust him; as such, he has not used him as he should

nixluva @ 11/11/2015 10:27 PM
The Knicks actually ran a LOT of very good Triangle Offense tonight. They still have work to do but it's clearly getting better.

Afflalo looked very good for a guy that has missed so much time.

KP's shot made its first appearance and it was nice to see.

There are always things we can nitpick about but this team was very close to another win. The Hornets are tough because that have some quality guards that can get by anyone and some shooters. Knicks outplayed them for most of the game.

Sambakick @ 11/11/2015 10:29 PM
Melo the reason we were in the game til the end.

I said on game thread, it's on Fish subs and Melo Hero ISO Ball. 50/50 blame.

Fish waited until it was too close to sub, and Melo only had 5 points in the 4th and a crucial 24 second violation airball. Forget the 29 points, it's when you score that counts.

Both blew chunks.

Mentioned some of this in the game thread.

You got an idea of what Aflalo can do to help this team. I think he is a guy we can use with plays makes use of screens as he gets his legs under him.

May not like Calderon's D, but good shooting makes it more palatable. The more he looks like Toronto Jose, the better off we are.

As some have said...need to get KP some midrange shots, especially early in the game. Good to see him bounce back early with his shot. Had some great D on Walker and Lin when they tried to take advantage of him. He covers a lot of ground, and you don't even realize it at first.

Lou might have gotten tired at the end of his stint, but I thought he looked good on both ends, for the most part.

Gallo looked like his legs were dead tonight...not that worried about him, though.

Seraphin let Lin, I think, drive to the basket while he put his arms up in surrender, or so it seemed. He has to make a statement and go for a block. A hard foul would have been nice and given Lin something to consider.

I think the shine has come off of Williams, unfortunately. If he does not have a lane to the basket on that play where he was stripped bringing the ball up from halfcourt, he should get the ball to a guard.

Live by the sword...die by it, but maybe Anthony can think about the law of averages, sometimes- you can't keep making the kinds of shots he takes on a continual basis. Have to have some better plays set up for him if you want to use him in key situations, bring a screener over for assistance and see if he can play off it. Still, Fisher gave him the OK to do it, I would assume.

Big difference for Lance, tonight. Might have played himself out of that $50M/5 yr contract some wanted him to get after yesterday's game. FireWoodson might have to take back that open "letter" he sent to him.

He'll be back, though. You can't stop Lance, you can only hope he has an off day every now and then.

Good unbiased post. Some here are too sensitive when certain players are called out (Melo)

Added to this post...said that Fisher had to have OK'd that ISO shot.

Have to say, though, that it is hard to see a lead built on shots you know are difficult to continue shooting and making, and then get too upset when it does not work out. Might also try to get him the ball while he is closer to the basket, so he can start in better position...he is pretty deadly in that 10-15 foot area, and does well when he starts from there with his back to the basket. Might also open up some passing opportunities.

knicks1248 @ 11/11/2015 10:51 PM
Down the stretch we got out coached,

while fisher drew up a nice screen for AA in which in canned the jumper to tie the game, he should have never called timeout with 26 seconds and the ball and the scored tied, plus your defense is over the limit. You have 5 veterans on the floor, you calling a timeout gives your opponent time to set up a solid defense, and make subs.

another one the coaching staff lost

Knicks1969 @ 11/11/2015 10:52 PM
Calderon played very well tonight. I pray that Aflalo can remain healthy, because he shows a hell of a lot when he is on the floor. Besides the five minutes fisher decided to use the subs, I thought the Knicks played a really good game

Ok, well, that reverse call on the buzzer beater was real hard to take. I was watching this
game in a sports bar (I'm on the West Coast) and even people who had no "dog in this fight"
couldn't believe all the nit picky foul calls the Knicks got & how basically NONE were called
on Charlotte (just like last night in Toronto). WTF? I know the Knicks can play with more discipline but
the refs seem to just call NY on every little thing. There's quite a difference btwn 4-5 and 5-4. Yes, its
a long season but I want to see this team prove their grit & win the close ones. GO KNICKS!
nixluva @ 11/12/2015 12:05 AM
The Good news is Afflalo is back and he did very well for his 1st game. KP found his jumper and is only getting better. Jerian is gaining confidence in his jumper. These are key developments for this team.
