Knicks · The risk of drafting Grant (page 1)

BRIGGS @ 11/14/2015 12:13 AM
Was his poor outside shooting. If he continues likes this he will be in westchester
CrushAlot @ 11/14/2015 12:31 AM
Huh? Ten games in right? Grant is the only guy that penetrates and creates. His outside shooting deficiency was known going into the draft but was seen as correctable. Ten days in and the Knicks need to send him to Westchester?

If he continues with the ofers he'd best be served getting a bigger sg role where he can work on his game shot in Westchester. That why it is there

That was Jose last week. Lets give it some time. This is a team that might get the 7th or 8th seed in the east if they make the playoffs. Development can and should happen with this team.
Knicks1969 @ 11/14/2015 2:06 AM
Oh my! Grant is one of those players folks around the league are raving about. Let the kid learn from his mistakes and he; just like Kidd might develop into a special player
smackeddog @ 11/14/2015 2:51 AM
Should Kaminsky and Russell be sent to DLeague too? If a player can contribute at the nba level, then it's better to develop them in the nba. The DLeague is for players who can't contribute at the nba level, but need to get minutes in to develop.
ChuckBuck @ 11/14/2015 10:28 AM
Is this another Chicken Little thread?

We're not winning the Chip this year, let these guys learn on the job for chrissakes.

clyderules @ 11/14/2015 10:28 AM
Sometimes I think that it would be best to fall out of contention allowing us to feature Grant and Porzingis as well as trade Melo for our future.

But then I look at the talent on the squad with all of that depth and youth thrown in and think that we can compete now.

callmened @ 11/14/2015 10:47 AM
im not sure BRIGGS is saying send him to the d league now. i think he was saying if the kid continues to struggle he might head there. makes sense, but i prefer for him to learn and make his mistakes at this level
crzymdups @ 11/14/2015 11:24 AM
Grant played a pretty good game last night. He got to the free throw line and pushed the pace. The outside shot is a missing ingredient right now, but he can work on that.

Westchester is an absurd idea.

Clean @ 11/14/2015 11:27 AM
This was the reason he dropped to pick 19. If he could shoot he would have been a top 10 pick. His job over the summer is to workout with Galloway and improve his shot. He has become much less effective recently because teams are playing WAY back off him. I think this is the main reason why the bench has started to stuck. Grant was getting everyone good shots and now he can not. The good thing is this is a simple fix. All he has to do is return next year with an improved shot.
herkyJerky @ 11/14/2015 11:40 AM
It's not like he's struggling in other areas of his game. It's his lack of a consistent J and that's pretty much it. And even if you do send him to Westchester, who do you replace him with? Sending him to Westchester makes things more complicated than they need to be.
nixluva @ 11/14/2015 11:56 AM
People forget how many other rookie guards did not shoot well and now are good shooters. It's very common and nearly predictable for young PG's.
TPercy @ 11/14/2015 12:34 PM
This thread is so ridiculous. Grant is clearly not going to the D league any time soon.
The guy makes up most a big chunk of our FT Attempts and leads our team in assists. Grant will eventually master finishing at an NBA level and will learn how to balance out his impulse to overpass. The guy is a bucket, give him time for crying out loud.
BRIGGS @ 11/14/2015 12:48 PM
His game shot is flat.

He's a good not great athlete it will become easier to defend jerian if he can't shoot better than 10% from 3.

1) he is a rookie
2) It has only been ten games in!
earthmansurfer @ 11/14/2015 1:43 PM
I'm not worried at this point. The kid appears to have a very high IQ on the court. And I just bet that IQ is also present with him in everyday life.
From Draft Express (some of it might be older):
In the half court, Grant was not quite as good, but continued to finish at a solid 57% rate around the rim and was able to score in isolation and off screen situations at a nice clip thanks to his 40% conversion rate on jump shots.

###

He did see an increase in his efficiency in jump shots off the dribble, as he improved his field goal percentage from 24.7% in 2011-12 to 32.8% in 2012-13 on these types of plays, but it's difficult to rely on this type of offense as a primary source of production. While he still has some work to do in this area, he saw an uptick in production due to a lower reliance on step back jumpers, allowing him to stay on balance as he pulls up for jump shots.

###

Also a solid outside shooter, Grant shows good mechanics on his jumper knocking down nearly two 3-pointers per game last season. At the moment he's significantly better in catch and shoot (36%) situations than he is off the dribble (25%), but he shows potential with both, something he can continue to harness to further solidify his pro prospects moving forward.

From DraftExpress.com http://www.draftexpress.com/#ixzz3rUbyUrzg

The guy can hit jump shots at a 40% clip. If he is open (and he often is now), there is no reason for him to not hit at a similar clip, if not more once he advances and gains in experience. He is a smart cat.

He is going to find a way because you just get the feeling that that is him. Remember, Gains suggested the kid. Gains is a scouting God.

He'll never play in Westchester but the great Frank Kaminsky may soon see some D-League minutes.

lol
mreinman @ 11/14/2015 6:16 PM
.487 TS for a rookie is not terrible. His .073 WS48 destroys rookie of the year Wiggins' .038

Grant is doing enough other things well out there and his 2% is actually quite high.

He will def need to become an ok 3 point shooter (33% ish) to be considered good but normal fans don't expect this right away. I give him until mid next season to be at least ok from 3.

Sending him to westchester is obviously a really stupid idea/thread/etc ...
