Why would anyone be against Grant plying 40 minutes a night for 5 games at Westchester to work on his in game form?

There will be plenty of rookies who go to the d league. Why is there a d league well one reason is to help develop players. So far jerian looks like he needs in game shooting development. It's a developmental process if he continues at his current shooting pace-- adjustments will be needed

You don't think it would be better for him to get playing time at 20 minutes a game in the NBA? I am sure there are as good as or better shooting coaching at the NBA level than the DLeague level.
This isn't a guy who needs polish working out the kinks like learning the triangle. This is a rookie trying to figure out his place.

Right. It was a suggestion to show how absurd the proposal to move a guy to the DLeague is for shooting poorly. I guess you missed that.
I agree he needs to work on his shot but the guys potential is through the roof.. His mid range is ok and he gets to the line ... He can do what no other pg we have on the roster can do and that's get guys open shots and break down the defense and get to the hoop... No way grant goes to westchester he should be in the gym shooting every day... His defense is above average as well
I believe shooting deficiencies are still correctable if the player just has the will to improve that aspect of his game. So it's more of like a personality issue, jerian is still young and his potential is still untapped same can be said of hardaway to an extent.
With practice and time, Jerian should be able to make open shots at a higher percentage enough to demand respect from the opposing team.
But I prefer jerian's play making mind set compared to hardaway's scoring since we already are grooming KP for that role and it looks like he is slowly but surely revealing his shooting is very good.
It is not about Grant but about the team not having any better options.
You can send young player to D-L if you have 2 solid players to cover the PG position who are outplaying him.
Grant with all his issues is Knicks best PG. And this is very good. I think KP is our best PF too. Which is excellent.
All we need to have them develop and be battle tested. And looks like we have perfect setting for this except of Melo taking too many shots.

Grant needs to stay in NY and play against nba competition but he also needs to improve his shot. He is a very good player but it was known he had to improve his shot when he was drafted. Guys can improve their shot. I don't think the d league fixes that unless they have a shot specialist in Westchester. When Hopla was the shooting coach on the Knicks he had Ronnie Brewer hitting threes. Last year's staff in Westchester was let go because they reportedly weren't developing players. Mike Miller has a good resume but I don't know that a guy like Grant gains anything playing for Miller in the d l. Things aren't established enough to know at this point.

Exactly. He's definitely one of our four best guards, which means he needs to stay here. His 3s might be bad but he's hitting 49% of his 2s and 85% of his FTs.

Well said, if anyone needed Westchester it was Calderon earlier in the season. Now he is solid. (and even trying on defense.)
Right now Grant is out best overall PG. His shooting should come around as he hit 40% on jumpshots his last year. He is getting open, think it is mental at this point.
And we got him for Timmy Jr, who probably would be shooting around 30% anyway and doing nothing on defense, not distributing, etc.

His TS of 49 is not good but its ok for a rookie. He is also doing other things really well for a rookie.
